We start this
week with a bang…literally. The rare Warlord item
Splattergun.
The first of the 5 new (one for each trade)
“me-first-then-you” items.
For a cost of 3 with threshold 2, this item offers
pseudo repeated beatings. With a cost of nothing
more than depleting it, you can inflict 3 damage to
a character or faction. Now here’s the catch. Once
you use it, your opponent gains control of it. So in
the long run, you get to trade 3 for 3 for 3 for 3
ad nauseam. So why would you want to use such a
thing if it’s only going to hurt you as much as it
hurts them?
Herein lies the strategy. Just like in baseball, the
last to bat has the final chance to win. After every
time you use Splattergun’s “Unload” ability, you’ll
be up 3 damage vs. what you’re opponent has
inflicted to you. It just depends on whether you or
your opponent has done more damage to the other’s
faction vs. characters, eliminated more threats, or
taken straight up board advantage with it.
In limited, any removal is better than no removal
and with only 2 threshold it’s a keeper. In
constructed, it could be the key damage for a
Warlord direct damage/burn type deck.
Limited: 4/5
Constructed: 3.5/5

Splattergun
I
like all of the trade items. By trade items, I mean
the cards that give you a one time effect and then
are traded to your opponent. So I like Splattergun.
For three resources this item can deal three damage
to either a faction or character. The downside is
your opponent gets to control this card after.
However, this doesn't have to be a downside when
coupled with cards like Hammer Smash and Blow Up.
In Limited, it helps end games and kill off crucial
characters. In constructed, I expect to see this
card see a fair amount of competitive play.
