Today we have
the uncommon Banker tactic Shocking Reappearance.
One of the few cards in The Spoils that has errata,
this is a favorite Banker tactic. For a cost of 5
with a threshold of 3, you get the following
(correctly erratted):
COST: Play this only while resolving a battle in
which you were attacked. Pick a character in your
discard pile.
EFFECT: Put the character into play under your
control. Treat this character as a member of the
blocking party. (You may play this card even if
there currently is no blocking party.)
What does that mean? Anytime you’re attacking
someone playing Greed who has 5 available resources,
you might want to ask to see which characters are in
their discard pile!
With the errata, you can play Shocking Reappearance
during either of the steps of “How to Resolve a
Battle” where you are allowed to play a tactic. So,
if you’re staring at an attacking party with
multiple speeds, you can choose to play Shocking
Reappearance during step 2 or 7 allowing you to
block the greatest amount of damage.
Be aware, cards that have abilities which trigger
“If this card blocks” (Pettifogger) will not trigger
because the card is added to the blocking party and
never was declared a blocker.
In limited, if you’re already going to 3 threshold
with Greed, it’s a keeper. In constructed, if you’ve
got 3 Greed in your deck, you’ve got 4 Shocking
Reappearances!
