Ting-Lu ex (SV Paldea Evolved 127/193) is another Pokemon that could be useful in the current meta. A Fighting type with 240 HP, Grass Weakness, and a retreat cost of CCCC, it has an ability and an attack. Its Cursed Land ability states that as long as this Pokemon is in the Active Spot, your opponent’s Pokemon that has any damage counters on them have no abilities, except for Pokemon-ex. And Land Scoop costs FFF for 150 damage while also putting 2 damage counters on 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon.
There are ways to put damage counters on the board without having to use up an attack, with Hawlucha being one of the best options due to its Flying Entry ability letting you place 1 damage counter on 2 of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. However, it is unfortunate that ability denial doesn’t affect Pokemon-ex, because that means several of the Pokemon-ex counterparts such as Miraidon, Koriadon, Chien-Pao, and Meowscarada will get to comfortably use their abilities. Granted, it does negate the abilities of both baseline Pokemon and other Rule-Box Pokemon, slowing down their plans. Ting-Lu ex could double down as an attacker since Koraidon-ex’s Dino Cry ability accelerates energies. And Rock Chestplate helps it soak some damage. However, if they use Path to the Peak, then only non-Rule Box Pokemon gets to use their abilities.
Fighting types could be represented with those three Pokemon (Hawlucha, Miraidon-ex, and Ting-Lu ex), and maybe they are enough to form a new deck in Standard. Expanded has even better ability denial via Garbodor’s Garbotoxin, which can make all abilities offline. And if you pulled one in Limited, it could be worth running there.
