Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing Toon monsters from your hand or field, whose total Levels equal 8 or more. While you control “Toon World” and your opponent controls no Toon monsters, this card can attack directly. Once per turn, if you control “Toon World”: You can target 1 card on the field; banish it, also this card cannot attack the turn this effect is activated.

King of Lullaby Hello Pojo Fans, Toon Black Luster Soldier finishes up the week and is another boss toon monster for the archetype. Tribute toons to Special Summon it first is reminiscent of its Ritual Summon background. Another Level 8 means Trade-In is a viable option for the deck and Pot of Avarice can put your toons back in the deck to search out again. Being able to go over the Levels limit is good, but you have a decent number of high level toons you can discard. Attack directly option like all toons is standard. This monster is a boss toon that actually can attack when you summon it. This effect is important, as battle traps aren’t used as much anymore, and bopping your opponent over the head for 3000 damage is nothing to scoff at. If your opponent has to burn an Impermanence to prevent this I’d say that’s a win for you. Banish ability once per turn of a card while you’ve got “Toon World” is another thing toons could’ve used. Now they have dual removal in TBLS and Toon Harpie Lady. Sure, it can’t attack when you activate the banish ability (like BLS-Envoy couldn’t), but this may not matter if you are going first and your opponent did something like Nibiru your field. Alongside Toon Bookmark making attacking directly on your turn with your boss toon monsters easier, your opponent may be in big trouble. Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Crunch$G We end this week off with the new boss for Toons to play, Toon Black Luster Soldier. Toon BLS is a Level 8 EARTH Warrior Toon with 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF. Great stats from BLS transfers over here, EARTH is a great Attribute and Warrior is one of the best Types. It has the regular Toon effect where it can attack directly if you have Toon World and the opponent controls no Toons, but no summoning sickness is great to make use of the 3000 body immediately. It cannot be Normal Summoned or Set and must first be Special Summoned from the hand by tributing Toons from your hand or field whose combined Levels equal or exceed 8. Basically a Ritual Summon without the Ritual Spell, and while it would of been nice if it banished 2 Toons from grave, it’s fine considering how much your protecting the Toons from even going to grave with Toon Kingdom. You can easily tribute 1 monster to summon this, and you can tribute Toon BLS to summon another copy, so it’s worth running multiples for that purpose. The last effect is a soft once per turn while you control Toon World to target and banish an opponent’s card at the cost of this being unable to attack. Similar to the Envoy of the Beginning here except the fact you don’t have to specifically banish a monster. It’s nice to have the option to hit backrow as well, something they didn’t have to add on this card. Sure it sucks it can’t attack the turn you use this effect, but that can get a little strong on 3000 ATK and it does match Envoy of the Beginning as well. It’s a boss that Toons have wanted for a while, and it’s nice to see a great Toon without summoning sickness. Worth having some copies of this in Deck to summon it off its own effect or with Toon Page-Flip. Advanced Rating: 4/5 Art: 4.5/5 It’s everything I could of ever wanted from a Toon version of Black Luster Soldier. |
Alex Searcy Toon Black Luster Soldier is an interesting card Type and attribute as well as attack and defense you should all be familiar with Special Summoned only essentially in the way as his Ritual counterpart. I’m not sure how sold I am on this Monster Being able to remove a card on the Field from play at the cost of not being able to attack IS good (so long as Toon World) is on the Field. It’s the same as one of his Envoy counterpart effects. More open than a Monster removal and no follow up attack effect. I don’t like Toon World has to be on the Field for you to use that effect and I don’t like you can only Tribute Toons to Summon him. He’s not at all bad but I’m not sure how good he actually is either beside a 3000 attack body. I think he’s a bit unnecessarily restricted. Rating: 3.5/5 Art: 3.5/5 also…the animal eyes confuse me more than Toon me and I don’t get why his face is hidden Does his human/Toon face not have eyes? |
