Topologic Gumblar Dragon
– #BLRR-EN043
If another monster is Special Summoned to a zone a Link Monster points to, while this monster is on the field: Discard 1 or 2 random cards, then your opponent discards the same number. During your Main Phase, if this card is Extra Linked and your opponent has at least 1 card in their hand: You can make your opponent discard 1 or 2 cards (whichever is higher), then, if they have no more cards in their hand, inflict 3000 damage to them. You can only use 1 “Topologic Gumblar Dragon” effect per turn, and only once that turn.

Crunch$G Throwback Thursday takes us to a card that’s really only a little over a year old, but one that has already been banned and one we never reviewed before, so with a Topologic ending this week, it made sense to look at Topologic Gumblar Dragon this week. TGD is a Link-4 DARK Cyberse with 3000 ATK and arrows pointing Up, Down, Left, and Right. Great ATK stat on a Link-4, DARK is a nice attribute, Cyberse is well supported now and a nice break from Dragon, and the arrows give me Firewall Dragon flashbacks. The summoning requirements are any 2+ Effect monsters, which is no real issue at all. If another monster is Special Summoned to a zone a Link Monster points to while this monster is on the field, discard 1 or 2 random cards from your hand and then your opponent discards the same number. This is mandatory, so make sure you are ready to use this effect when it’s summoned. This was super easy to use when legal alongside Goukis and Linkuriboh to use on your turn and your opponent’s turn while getting Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade back to your hand to potentially discard with this and then make your opponent discard 2 each time, leaving them starting with only 2 cards. If you trigger the mandiatory effect though and only have 1 card in your hand, then you must discard that one card and the opponent only discards 1 (or no cards if they have none in the hand, since that’s a possibility). It destroys the opponent’s hand, but you have to work around it being mandatory. Gumblar also during your Main Phase if in an Extra Link and your opponent has at least 1 card in there hand can make your opponent discard 1 or 2 cards, whichever is higher for them to be able to do, and then burn them for 3000 damage if they have no cards left in their hand after this. The Extra Linking effect isn’t too common considering making an Extra Link is harder without Firewall Dragon, but pulling this off can eliminate whatever options the opponent has left while at the same time dealing massive damage to them if they had nothing left after this. It’s a very powerful card that can destroy the opponent’s hand, so a hard once per turn to where you can only use 1 effect a turn was the best option to balance this. Not good enough though considering this was still banned for destroying hands before the opponent really got to play. Gumblar was unfair when you pulled off the combo with Goukis and Linkuriboh, so seeing it gone is perfectly fine by me, the OCG might follow suit with this one day since they are getting Danger! very soon and might find ways to abuse this, it helps them though that they have 3 Maxx “C”. Advanced Rating: 4.75/5 Art: 5/5 That thing is as terrifying as its effect. |
Alex Searcy Throwback Thursday brings us to a double rarity, in a Banned card, and one that is yet to have been reviewed. Topologic Gumblar Dragon is a Link 4 Monster, also a Cyberese, with all 4 arrows pointing to the immediate respective non-diagonal directions. 3000 attack is equipped, and this is a Dark Monster, needing 2+ Effect Monsters for a Link Summon. So, while on the Field, if a Monster is Special Summoned to a Zone a Link Monster point to, discard 1 or 2 random cards, and your opponent does the same. Furthermore, if Extra Linked, while your opponent has 1 or more card in their Hand, you can have them discard 1 or 2 cards (whichever happens to be higher) and they take 3000 Damage if their Hand is empty after this. Only one effect can be used per turn, and only once per turn. See why this guy is Banned? Extreme Hand destruction, insane burn (3000 Damage is nothing, and the potential that can be done multiple times) this guy wins games, and he wins them fast. 3000 attack on top of that, he’s insane. Powerful cards are all well and good, but this guy is TOO good. Rating: 5/5 (Banned) Art: 5/5 also. Great colors, love the detail on the body, that background is gorgeous and bright to compliment the darks on the body. |
