Unchained Soul of Rage
– #CHIM-EN043

2 monsters including an “Unchained Soul” monster
During your opponent’s Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can target 1 face-up Special Summoned monster your opponent controls; immediately after this effect resolves, Link Summon 1 DARK Link Monster, except “Unchained Soul of Rage”, by using only that opponent’s monster and this card you control as material. If this card on the field is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can target 1 Fiend monster in your GY, except “Unchained Soul of Rage”; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of “Unchained Soul of Rage” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Unchained Soul of Rage is the Link monster we’re looking at today for the Unchained archetype, though if you tech in an Unchained Soul monster you can summon this as well.

Decent arrows, stats, and support, but what matters is its effect(s). Like yesterdays monster, this has the ability to use an opponents monster (has to be a Special Summoned one) to Link Summon. That Special Summon restriction won’t always come into play, and you can make certain it never does with how you play. Dealing with monsters in a non-destruction way helps mitigate potential gains for your opponent while increasing your advantage. Another Link 2 or a Link 3 is good as you link climb using your Unchained monsters, and there are other DARK Link monsters other than Unchained. USoR will replace itself with a Fiend coming to your hand, giving you fodder for the turn or next turn. You can get back your Rakea or Aruha and start the climb all over again, get back a different Fiend monster like a Burning Abyss monster, or pop an Extra Deck monster back to the Extra Deck. Much like yesterday, this card is good at removal of your opponents monster without backlash against you.

From one Unchained Soul to another, this one being a Link Monster that’s similar to the other Unchained Soul Link, we have Unchained Soul of Rage.

Rage is a Link-2 DARK Fiend with 1800 ATK and arrows pointing Up and Down. Fair ATK on a Link-2, arrows are ok-ish, and we got that good type-attribute combo. The summoning requirements are any 2 monsters, including an Unchained Soul, of which there are two you could use and you have zero issue in the archetype to get to them. It has an effect during the opponent’s Main Phase to target one of their Special Summoned monsters and Link Summon a DARK Link that isn’t Unchained Soul of Rage using this and the targeted monster as material. Similar to yesterday, only on the opponent’s turn and it has to be a Special Summoned monster, which is fair to not let you target any monster on the opponent’s turn so they can get somewhat going, but this can highly interrupt them if used at the right time to get to the Unchained Link-3 or maybe the Link-4 if you targeted a Link-2 monster. The other effect lets you target a Fiend in your grave when this is destroyed and add the Fiend to your hand, as long as that Fiend wasn’t Unchained Soul of Rage. Good way to recover in the case this was destroyed before using the effect to get to a Twin to hopefully get to an Unchained Soul soon, or get the Unchained Soul that can summon itself from the hand. It’s a fairly good Link-2 that is fairly locked to its archetype, it’s a staple for the archetype easily.

Art: 5/5 As much as I prefer red to blue, Rage does look better than Anguish.

Midweek brings us to the Link side of things (and a card I tried very hard not to reference yesterday) in Unchained Soul of Rage.  This is a Dark/Fiend, Link 2 Monster, with 1800 attack.  Arrows here point directly above and below this card.  Two Monsters are required for Link Summon, one of which must be an Unchained Soul Monster, which I deem appropriate.

First is a Quick Effect:  We saw yesterday, but here it is ON a Link Monster, where you can Target a Monster your opponent controls, again face-up, but this time it must be a Special Summoned Monster.  Using that card and this card, you can Special Summon a Dark Link Monster.  Other than another Soul of Rage, of course.  The second effect here is similar too, yet different from, yesterday as well.

When this card is destroyed, by Battle or Card Effect (again, even by you, if it plays out that way) you can Target a Fiend Monster (any Fiend, not even just of the theme here, which opens things up a little more) and add it to your Hand.  So yesterday that Monster came to the Field, today it comes to your Hand.  Still good here on both counts, but I give the edge to yesterday.

Rating:  3.75/5

Art:  Hmm…I guess the blue here is supposed to represent a soul again, but I’m not feeling it as much as yesterday.  And there isn’t enough here in the art to tell me this guy while still in chains isn’t chained TO something.  Still a nice picture though.
