David Fanany Player since 1995 This card was a staple in Kaladesh Standard, and while it’s true that there were fewer instant-speed removal spells in that season than in some past ones, it’s probably the kind of card that would be played anyway. Three mana to destroy any creature with no conditions is now the baseline, and the additional effect when you control an artifact can add up over the course of a game. It seems like one specific to an artifact block, but we’ve started to get more positive interactions with artifacts among red cards just in general, so there is likely to be a niche for it in larger casual formats, too. Murder with upside, more or less. Killing a creature and dealing 3 damage at the same time is a pretty decent rate of return, even if the color requirement is a bit finicky. Considering that Kaladesh was heavy on artifacts, though, this definitely is priced to move, and it’s pretty easy to make sure this turns on when you need it to. Unlicensed Disintegration is a solid kill spell for any deck that can run it, though two-mana options are usually preferable in spite of their limitations. Constructed: 3 |
