This card’s existence either suggests that Caves were popular in Lost Caverns of Ixalan, or that someone on the design team spends a lot of time figuring out meaningful names that can be made from existing card types. Either way, Urza’s Cave provides an intriguing option for deckbuilders everywhere – it can go in any deck, even in Commander, and it lacks one particular restriction that has at times frustrated manabase designers over the years. That means it offers something to people up and down Magic’s playstyle and budget continuums: it grabs your singleton Restless Anchorage in a budget deck, the last part of the Urzatron that you need in Modern tournaments, and Dark Depths anywhere that is played. The only downside might be if not every deck wants to use three mana just to do that (and finding one for yourself if it takes off!).

Constructed: 4 (I may be optimistic, but the effect is hard to stop and it does go with everything)
Casual: 4
Limited: 3
Multiplayer: 4
Commander [EDH]: 4

I’m beginning to wonder if Urza’s Cave was done mostly so they could have another card whose typeline matched its name. At least it’s not another Urza’s Saga…though it does find it, so I guess there’s that.

Urza’s Cave is actually a pretty interesting land because it’s a colorless way to dig out any land from your deck, no strings attached. It’s certainly not the cheapest way to dig a land out, but when you consider it can find any land and can go in any deck, that’s more than worth it. I do think it asking for three mana on top of tapping and bringing the land in tapped will be enough to keep it from doing truly obscene things, but I definitely would not sleep on a card like this…being able to find any land can be big for a deck that wants a particular land for its gameplan, and even if it’s not Plan A, it makes for a very efficacious Plan B.

Constructed: 3.5 (might be a bit slow, but there are some decks that would really benefit from this)
Casual: 4.75
Limited: 3
Multiplayer: 3.5
Commander [EDH]: 4.5
