Next up for Vaalmonica is one of their best Spells to help you gain a Resonance Counter on whichever Pendulum Scale you want to gain one with the choice effect it has: Vaalmonica Scelta.

Scelta is a Normal Spell that lets you pick from one of two effects to use, but if you don’t have a Vaalmonica in the Pendulum Zone, the opponent gets to choose instead. The first effect lets you gain 500 LP, then you can place a card from your hand on the bottom of the Deck to draw 2 cards. More draw power is nice, it isn’t just a straight +1 either, though if the opponent had the choice, I doubt they would of ever chose a free draw 2 like that unless the other effect was that detrimental to them, which it isn’t in this case since the other effect burns you for 500 damage to let you add any Vaalmonica Spell/Trap directly from the Deck to the hand, besides Scelta. So if you don’t have the Spell or Trap you want, this is a guaranteed way to get to it if you got your Scales up. You can only activate 1 of these a turn, of course, so you’d have to use Angello and Dimonno to copy whichever effect if you want them again. Scelta is a consistency piece for Vaalmonica. It doesn’t search the Scales, but if you are activating this, you likely already have them up since you don’t want your opponent picking your effects. Play it in Vaalmonica to choose the effect you want once you get your Scales up, they ensured you can’t just play it generically cause of that.

Vaalmonica Scelta is the first of many Vaalmonica Spells, which are your main way of gaining Resonance Counters. Predictably, you can only activate it once per turn, and like all the other Quick-Play Spells so far, you can choose between the LP gain effect or the effect damage effect if you have a Vaalmonica monster in your Pendulum Zone; otherwise, your opponent can choose, which is obviously not desirable. Scelta’s LP gain effect will let you gain 500 LP, then place a card from your hand to the bottom of the deck to draw 2 cards. This is easily the worse effect of the two and the one your opponent will likely pick if you let them; there aren’t any garnets in the deck you want to shuffle back, and the draw 2 pales in comparison to the other effect. By taking 500 damage instead, you can search any Vaalmonica Spell or Trap except another Scelta. This can get you to your Field Spell if you don’t have it yet, the searcher for their new support, or your Traps for disruption. While having a Spell/Trap searcher on a Spell feels a bit redundant, remember that you’ll also want to be building up Resonance Counters too, so unless you’re under Droll & Lock Bird, there’s no reason not to use this card first to path to your Traps. Scelta’s main weakness is that it’s pretty useless unless you have your scales set up first, making it a potential brick, but it’s still an important card you want to run 3 copies of. At worst, your opponent will let you draw 2!

+Helps gain Resonance Counters while bridging to your Traps or starters
-Unable to definitively make plays on its own
-Mediocre LP gain effect that your opponent will almost always choose

Hello Pojo Fans,

Vaalmonica Scelta is the easiest way to your Resource Counters within the archetype.

Normal Spell that will help you gather Resource Counters as long as you have your Pendulum Zones occupied by Vaalmonica monsters (one of each preferably). If you don’t, your opponent will choose which of the effects on Scelta you get. Both effects are good, the LP is minimal, but will trigger your Pendulum Scales from yesterday, netting you Resource Counters, all while getting you one of two effects.

The draw two and placing one to the bottom of the Deck from your hand is almost always a great option. It allows for shuffling back a useless card at the moment in exchange for two new ones that may end up being tech cards or more archetype cards to get you further along. “Draw 2” effects are coveted in the game and while you’d like to see the card you give up go to the grave, to the bottom of the Deck isn’t bad at all.

Adding a Vaalmonica Spell/Trap from the Deck to the hand gets you to Melody or Rhythm, both traps will help control pace on the field (both are far better when you have a Vaalmonica Link Monster on the field). If you search Vasare you get a Foolish Burial or an excavation card for your archetype, Intonare is your Monster Reborn or RoTA, or the Field Spell: Vaalmonica, the Agathokakological Voice for a standard RoTA archetype search, as well as a rechargeable Change of Heart. Any choice you get is dependent on your situation, however, the more LP you gain or lose per turn, the more counters you get and the quicker you can fire them off to better your standing on the field.

The Spell is easy to play and is a must in a playset in the archetype. No cost, almost all the time you will have the choice, and even if your opponent does have the choice, you benefit greatly from it. Doesn’t matter that they know what you are getting, because you are likely to play it immediately and the Trap cards in the archetype are not completely dependent on your opponent’s moves.
