Punisher –
Executioner
Hey everyone! Before I begin my review for
today, let me start by apologizing for my last
review on Moon Knight. You see his boosted
ability with out initiative makes Moon Knight a
13/6 on turn 6 (not 16/6). D’oh! Yep, that was
definitely a stupid thing not to check up on.
That is not to say I would change my ratings
...he can still stun a 6-drop (for the most
part) with his boosted ability and that is
definitely good enough for me. Now onto the card
for today – Punisher!
Ok, unlike Moon Knight I was actually able to
get my hands on this card and play it at the
sneak peek. (Don’t ask me how that happened ...I
am still wondering.) This guy was GREAT at the
sneak peek. I usually put this guy on the field
on turn 5 with a War Wagon and went to town.
Then on turn 6 I used War Wagon’s ability to KO
an aggravating character my opponent had. I know
I am digressing at this point, so I am going to
get back on track. Punisher is your typical
5-drop character at 9/9. He does have range
which is nice for hiding him in the back row. (I
think the general rule is: If you have a gun,
you get range.) The great thing about Punisher,
however, is this guy gets a +1/+1 while
equipped. That means if you slap a Jet Pack on
him, he becomes a 12/10 5-drop! Now that is
power. As for his boosted ability, well I am not
sure if anyone would have the 2 pieces of
equipment to KO, much less want to KO them.
Trust me, if you are running this guy in your
deck, you probably are not running him for his
boosted ability anyway. With that said, I am
going to neglect his boosted ability.
Bottom line: If you want to run this character
constructed then try him out in a Marvel
Knights/Gotham deck with Barbara Gordon or in a
MK/F4 deck. I think that this is where he will
be most effective. If you are going sealed then
definitely find room in your deck for this guy.
He is solid!
Ratings:
Constructed – 3.5/5.0 ...I think this character
actually deserves a higher rating in the decks I
mentioned.
Limited – 3.5/5.0 ...This is a very solid 5-drop
pick!

Punisher-Executioner: Ah yes finally some more
Punisher characters to play with since the
Punisher from Spidey-Friends was kind of weak.
We now get 3 semi-playable Punisher characters.
I say semi because of the type of deck you
running Punisher may or may not fit that theme.
Let’s look at the Punisher Executioner style.
While equipped the Punisher gets +1/+1. While
that doesnt seem like a big power-up with most
equipment costing 1 or more equipment such as
Jet Pack that is free will increase his attack
stat 13. Combo that with FF4 tricks and now we
are talking.
In addition, a Boosted Executioner Punisher now
sports a 14 ATK and when you KO 2 equipment you
control and you also get to stun a target
character with a cost of 5 or less.
Constructed: 3/5 – Has the potential to be
broken with Fantastic Four equipment decks and
Pier 4 and some other tricks. Otherwise he is a
meager 9/9 as your 5 drop.
Limited: 2/5 – Highly doubtful that you will
have 2 equipment in play by Turn 7 for his
ability to be any useful.

Punisher,
Executioner
Ahhh, now this is a sweet little card. 9/9 with
range in a 5 drop is good, very good. The
additional +1/+1 for being equipped is even
better, especially with all of the decent 0-cost
equipment in the game. His boost ability is a
little tougher to pull off, and the reward isn't
too great. Having 2 equipment cards on the field
at the same time is tough to pull off unless
you're playing a very equip-heavy deck, or
packing a set of Tech Upgrades. 14/9 isn't the
best stats to have for your 7 drop, but stunning
your opponent's 5 drop will help you out some.
However, 4 drop Punisher has a great effect too,
and you may not want to lose him to play the 5
drop Punisher. He'll be tougher to play in
Modern Age when you lose access to Tech Upgrade
and Mr. Fantastic, as well as things like Dual
Sidearms, Advanced Hardware, and Unstable
Molecules.
Even in Golden Age, the only equipment decks
that have worked well have been FF variants, and
even those haven't been top tier in a while.
In Limited, there's only 8 equips in this set,
so having enough of them to fuel either one of
his effects is going to be tough. Still, he's a
common
9/9 5-drop, so his brute force will come into
play for you.
Ratings:
Constructed (Modern) - 3/5
Constructed (Golden) - 4/5
Limited - 3.5/5
