Barry Allen
Ahh...what can say about Barry Allen? Well, he
doesn't deserve to be a rare. He didn't make the
cut in my JLA ally power deck. Why the heck does
he have an equipment restriction anyway?..it
isn't like you are going to do extra
breakthrough with him anyways... Ok I don't know
what it is about this guy that makes Upperdeck
think that he will be highly abused. After all
he can't fly, doesn't have range, and his stats
stink considering he is a 6-drop character. I am
definately thinking there was some sort of
misprint here. Ok sure, he can attack multiple
times. Great. Only two things though...a.) he
can't be equipped and b.) he can't cause
breakthrough. Did I mention this only occurs
when HE becomes powered up?
Ratings:
DCMA constructed - 2.5/5.0...Naw I think I will
pass
GA Constructed - 2.5/5.0...Playing this card in
this format requires mutliple ways to power him
up
Limited - 1.0/5.0 ...The first person who gets
multiple copies of this rare should be checked
for cheating

Barry Allen
<> The Flash, Scarlet Speedster
One of my favorite superheroes ever, and a card
that makes for some interesting strategies.
Being able to stun your opponent's 1-6 drops
with one character is a tempting possibility. He
has to be unequipped, or else Nth Metal becomes
an autowin for this guy, but with all of the
other ways to powerup an attacker, Barry Allen
can still wreck your opponent's board.
11/9 is small for a 6 drop, although he'll be
12/10 when you power him up, so that can take
out a good percentage of 6 drops. The 10 DEF
will keep him from getting taken out by most 5
drops, although you'll want to take out the
smaller drops first, then their 5, just in case
they have any pumps. He combos very well with
Flying Kick, as he'll keep his +3 bonus and
flight for the entire turn, although you won't
be dealing any breakthrough. Still, if you plan
for it, he can clear your opponent's entire
board on 6, leaving your other guys open to
smash face directly.
Definitely a playable rare for JLA curve, and
possibly a good splash in some other decks.
In Limited, he's a little riskier, although
you'll have a good chance of getting some
powerup effects in the set. Still, I wouldn't
count on him as your primary 6 drop unless you
manage a very strong set of plot twists to
support him. On his own he's not a powerhouse,
but as the lynchpin of a complete strategy, he
could be winning games on his own in the right
deck. It'll be interesting to see how The Flash
is used in the next couple of premier events.

Barry Allen
JLA 6 drop
11/9
no F/R
Whenever Barry Allen becomes powered up while
attacking a character, if Barry Allen is
unequipped, you may ready him and he cannot
cause breakthrough this turn.
This is perhaps my LEAST favorite of the JLA
characters. As a 6 drop he very small. He also
lacks flight and range, but I would not expect
the flash to have either. This card is trying to
be Quicksilver, but fails miserably.
Ignore the unequipped part as you will never
equip him if you are using him and he wont be in
an equip deck if you run it that way. For his
effect he must first become powered up, making
him a 12/10. Average attack now, but his DEF is
still horrid, and to use his other effect you
need to keep him from being stunned. I can see
this working with team tactics in Golden, but
not being able to cause breakthrough really
defeats the purpose anyway. He could take out a
swarm deck easy enough, but most swarms will
have a counter for him anyway (ie-roy harper).
If you can manage to pull his effect to get
multiple attacks off, then the lack of
breakthrough is no big deal as you will gain
field advantage.
In the end, this guy really stinks. Stick with
Batsy or Hal on 6. They are WAY better.
