With one more
day to go until Marvel Team-Up previews (well,
ours anyway), here's another card from a
previous set to tide you over.
Secret Society was a decent team in DC Modern,
and has a lot to offer in the upcoming Silver
Age scene as well. The dominant 2 drop is Poison
Ivy, valued for her ability to tutor for any
location and drop it into play at the same time.
A lesser played, but still playable, 2-drop is
Captain Boomerang. He's an undersized 2 drop
with his printed 2/2, but he comes into play
with a +1/+1 counter, making him a sturdy 3/3,
definitely playable stats. Remove a +1/+1
counter from him, and he burns your opponent for
2 endurance. Secret Society's underused
secondary theme was the manipulation of +1/+1
counters, and Captain Boomerang was a solid part
of that theme.
Unfortunately, the more playable theme of KO'd
pile manipulation is what has seen play, so
Captain Boomerang has had to languish unused in
boxes of commons on closet shelves worldwide.
Still, a 3/3 with range is a decent add to most
decks, and if you ever find yourself playing JLA
sealed, he's a good pickup.

El N00bie
Magnifico |
Hello all and
welcome to my first CArd of The day. Let me tell
you a little about myself.
I go by the internet handle "El N00bie Magnifico".
There, now that we got that out of the way, on
to the review.
Captain Boomerang
"Digger"
Secret Society
2 Drop
2 ATK
2 DEF
Range
Captain Boomerang comes into play with a +1 ATK
/ +1 DEF counter on him.
Remove a +1 ATK / +1 DEF counter from Captain
Boomerang -> Target player loses 2 endurance.
The Flash thwarted "Digger's" first criminal
scheme: stealing money from children
So here we have ourselves a 2 drop for the
infamous Secret Society. It's a pretty brutal
team with some pretty brutal characters. The
cap' here just isn't one of those.
He's only at 2/2 but comes into play with +1/+1
counter, giving him the 3atk/3def I demand on
most 2 drops I play unless they have an effect
that makes it acceptable for them to be easily
stunned by a 1 drop or have difficulty stunning
across their own threshold. But aside from that,
he's really not all that much help to his team.
He fits one of the team's themes by having that
counter on him, but his team doesn't really care
all that much for burn so that leaves him out in
the cold for the more favorable 2 drop, Deadshot
- Floyd Lawton. This guy doesn't even make the
cut for me as a back-up alternate 2 drop since I
would rather pack either the other 2-drop
Deadshot, who gives you an extra body on the
field, which is always nice, or Peter Merkel,
our vengeful, evasive, recruitable Slaughter
Swamp.
The only place this guy had a true home in was a
nasty little combo involving Moloids and a
handful of other cards, but bannings took care
of that, so I won't get into it.
So he's not a bad card, per say, but as far as
his team is concerned, there are better choices.
