Article 3: The Common Threats- Marvin Aquino
Article #3: The Common
Threats
In my third installment of Underrated and Overlooked cards, I will
take a look a trio of cards that many of you Marvel VS players have more than
likely obtained multiple copies of. The triple threats I speak of are
Advanced Hardware, Finishing Move, and Flying Kick. Let’s take a look at
these three in sections
Advanced Hardware
–EQUIPMENT- (recruit cost 1)
Equipped
character gets +3 ATK, has range, and has “Activate à Target player
loses 3 endurance.”
I would have to say this is the most popular equipment
that I have seen played. At a low cost of 1 resource you can boost one of
your characters ATK by 3, give him range, and give him the ability to hit your
opponent directly for 3 endurance. I am currently using this card in all 3
of my decks and I would have to say it is amazing for any character. In
the Marvel VS world, +3 ATK is usually what the next recruit cost increases
by. Overall, solid card for a mere 1 recruit
cost.
Finishing Move
–PLOT TWIST- (threshold cost 2)
As an additional cost to play
Finishing Move, exhaust a character you control.
KO target stunned
character
Getting tired of that annoying character that your
opponent always seems to recover? Well this is where Finishing Move comes
into play. At a small sacrifice of exhausting a character you control you
can KO that annoying pest. Finishing Move becomes very handy when it gets
down to turns 6-8 as more and more characters become stunned. Targeting a
strong monster with finishing move can really turn the tide of the game
around. What makes this card even better is the fact that it’s a common
card. Many decks run anywhere from 2-4 of this card. The only real
drawback of this card is the exhausting of one of your characters as it may be
the only other character that can attack. Look to see this card in many
tournament decks as it is the only other alternative to KO a character besides
having your opponent do so him/herself.
Flying Kick –PLOT
TWIST- (threshold cost 1)
Target
character has flight this turn. While attacking this turn, that character
gets +3 ATK.
Flying Kick is the Savage Beatdown of commons. It
may give 2 less ATK to your character but that is replaced by the ability to
fly. Flight is an important aspect of the Marvel VS world as it allows a
character to target an unsuspected character. The threshold cost of 1 make
this card great for early swarm decks like the Brotherhood and X-Men. I
personally use this card in both of my tournament decks and also my fun
deck. I have also been on the receiving end of this card and it can take
you by surprise. You can catch your opponents faulty positioning by
hitting him with this plot twist. This is definitely going to see a lot of
tournament play, but as more plot twists are created in the Marvel VS universe,
this card may see its play die down. So play it while it lasts because
it’s a good one.
So there is my review of the triple threat commons and I
hope this will help future as well as current VS players. The next article
I plan on doing will be on some overlooked rare cards.
