Merlyn - Deadly
Archer
Hey everyone!! Looks like we are going to end
the week with a card that provides great support
for all the LofA and Brotherhood/LofA decks out
there - Merlyn!
I actually think Merlyn is really great. His
power allows you to KO a traget character if its
cost is less than the number of locations you
control. The only downside to this is that his
power is 1.) Cosmic and 2.) you can only use
this power during your attack step. However, I
would probably put a few in my LofA deck none
the less. (He is still a solid 4-drop as a 7/7
with range.) In fact, if you are running a LofA/Brotherhood
deck, you will probably want this guy and
Sabertooth in favor of Ra's. Either way you
really can't go wrong with this card...he is
even a great late-game card...provided you have
the locations.
Ratings:
LofA constructed deck - 3.0/5.0 ...I would give
him a higher rating except that his power is
cosmic
Limited - 3.5/5.0 ...I am actually giving him a
higher rating here because it is easy to get you
hand on a few locations (i.e. Metropolis) in
this format and the impact of his effect could
be devestating.

Merlyn – There are
only 2 new additions to the League of Assassins
and Merlyn is one of them. Too bad he is a 4
drop as the majority of LOA decks run Ra’s Al
Ghoul as the 4 drop. His Cosmic power is
situational and his stats are on Avg with 7/7
and range.
Constructed: 2/5 – Stick with Ra’s as your 4
drop for LOA decks. Not much to say about Merlyn
here.
Limited: 3/5 – A bit better in this format. Most
likely you will want to be drafting a team
stamped 4 drop to help out in your deck. If you
cant draft any other 4 drops than Merlyn then he
would suffice

Merlyn, Deadly
Archer
Merlyn is an interesting character. His plusses
are huge, but so are his minuses. For maximum
effectiveness, you almost want to build your
deck around him, making sure that your resource
row is crammed full of locations and keeping him
from stunning and losing his counter. Once he's
out though, you can use him to get rid of a lot
of your opponent's annoying weenie cards. LoA
has decent drops at 5, 6, 7, and 8, so keep him
alive at the end of turn 4, then drop your Bane,
Ubu and start plinking away at your opponent's
board. 7/7 for 4 is pretty good if you do wind
up having to use him as an attacker, but most of
the time you'll want to keep him around for his
effect. Just pack some locations (Lazarus Pit
and Mountain Stronghold come to mind) and a few
copies of The Demon's Head to keep Merlyn's
quiver full.
In Limited, Merlyn is a mixed blessing. There
aren't many locations available in this format,
so the best he'll do is take out an annoying 1
drop, which there aren't even many of in this
set. Still, without Loyalty, he can be splashed
into anything you draft, and you'll have a
better shot at finding a Mother Box or Emil
Hamilton. Having Metroplis as a non-unique
location certainly doesn't hurt. There are
better 4 drops out there though, so choose
wisely.
