It appears that after many failed attempts at taking
over the world the Fearsome Five felt it was time to
post another add in The Underworld Star. Their new ally
happens to be none other than the League of Assassins
who are doing a bit of freelancing to get a few bucks in
the piggy bank.
Before I write more I have to say that out of all the
new decks I’ve been building and all the different
variants I’ve put together for each new affiliation the
Fearsome Five have been the most difficult one to work
with. I tried to build a couple of decks that revolved
around Prismon and they were ok but not good enough to
stand up to the stronger decks other affiliations have
to offer. The only other possible thing I could think
off is get a deck that focuses on locking the game at
five resources with Neutron.
And that’s exactly what I’ve been focusing on for the
past three weeks. I’ve tried many different variants and
hybrids with other affiliations, especially the Garth
affiliation… eeerrr…. I mean the Teen Titans. (^_<) That
hybrid was pretty good and could deal well with a lot of
other decks but it just wasn’t able to stand up to Go
Titans and I say that any deck that can’t handle the
Titans or at least has a decent chance is not worth
running.
I’ve liked the League of Assassins since day one and
they’re the one affiliation that I’ve kicking around the
most because of all their metagame hate. I also like the
concept of combining the League with Jinx because of her
ability to tutor for locations and the League also has a
pair of really solid five drops which leads me to
believe this was a match made in heave… or wherever it
is that villains meet.
Like with any other deck we need one main goal that
we’re gonna be shooting for. Our main goal is to get
Neutron in play and keep him from stunning so we can
lock down the number of resources in play. The main
problem with this goal is that Neutron normally tends to
get stunned and the whole lock concept pretty much goes
out the window because if your opponent gets his six
drop down is very likely Neutron will get stunned once
again and after that his ability is not that great.
To help us deal with this problem we have Shimmer and a
lot of defensive plot twist like Acrobatic Dodge, Shape
Chance and Entangle. Dr. Tzin-Tzin is not a great four
drop but he helps us achieve our current goal which is
why he’s making an appearance. If you get him in play
turn four he’ll most likely get himself stunned on turn
five but if he can keep Neutron from passing out he’s
well worth it.
The problem with a lot of Neutron lock decks is that
they’re not prepared for those cases when you just won’t
be able to keep Neutron ready. You can have every single
defensive card in your deck and even then your Neutron
will get stunned every so often so instead of living in
a dream world where Neutron will never be stunned let’s
include a few six drops that can be tutored for and even
a couple of seven drops because you just never know.
The good thing about this strategy is that you’ll be
ready for the worst case scenario and the fact that Ra's
al Ghul (6) and Neutron work really well when combined
with Avalon Space Station doesn’t hurt one bit. Kind of
makes me wish Garth was part of this combo but trust me
when I say it doesn’t work as well as it sounds, just
too inconsistent. The cool thing about pulling this off
is that when you combine it with all the cards that can
tutor for characters in your deck you’ll normally have
your seven drop ready and waiting for you incase you
need it.
If you run up against an aggressive deck like the New
Brotherhood don’t be afraid to play Mammoth on turn
three because he’ll keep the little ones at bay and odds
are that he will get stunned by turn five so you’ll
still be able to play Neutron on his desired turn. Even
tough when facing a New Brotherhood deck you probably
won’t want to drop Neutron and is a lot better to just
play the curve out and beat the New Brotherhood in the
late game. All your defensive cards should be able to
buy you some time to draw a Have a Blast and if you’re
able to drop Ra's al Ghul (6) on turn six you should be
in a pretty good shape.
This deck is very easy to play and is one of those decks
that practically plays itself because all you have to
worry about is getting your drops in play which should
be rather easy to do thanks to the eight cards in your
deck that can fish whatever character you might need.
The number one thing you need to realize is where you
should try to pull the Neutron lock or not because there
are some matches where not playing Neutron is the best
play. Just make your decision in the early game so you
can be prepared.
This is Q signing off.
