Paris, France (19 October, 2008) – After three days of intense competition, Upper Deck today crowned Jim Fleckenstein of Virginia the 2008 World of Warcraft Trading Card Game World Champion. Fleckenstein rose from the ranks of 435 players, wielding a Kil’zin of the Bloodscalp deck that vanquished all who stood against it. The 2008 World of Warcraft Trading Card Game World Championship Tournament kicked off on Thursday night, with more than 130 players battling it out in the Last Chance Qualifier for a spot in the main event. On Friday morning, the World Championship Tournament began with over 30 countries represented. By the end of the first day, the field had been whittled down to the top 96 players, who returned on Saturday for day two of the World Championship Tournament gauntlet.  On Saturday evening, the top eight players who would advance to the final round and compete for the grand prize were named.  After four final rounds, Fleckenstein emerged victorious.

“I’m still waiting for this to all register,” said the new World of Warcraft TCG World Champion.  “My opponent had one of the best decks here, but I felt that overall if I kept my head in the game and played at my best I would get there.”

In addition to the main event, the 2008 World of Warcraft Trading Card Game World Championship Tournament featured many other events for players of all levels.  The Ladies Championship on Sunday brought together some of the best women in the TCG world.  Henriette Kanutz of Germany fought her way to the grand prize from the small but talented field of players, earning a pink iPod Nano.

The 2008 World of Warcraft Trading Card Game World Championship Tournament also played host to a Darkmoon Faire, which included the esteemed Darkmoon Faire Championship.  After two days of fierce competition, France’s Pierre Malherbaud claimed the grand prize.
