Hello to this series of reviews, and Blood elves are
the theme for the next 2 weeks.
The Blood Elves have arrived through the Dark
Portal, and will try to make their stand.
Paladins have some support for them, but it isn’t
enough to win a (large) tournament. I have a feeling
this will change in the future, although it may take
a few more sets.

So begins the age of the blood elves and its going
to be interesting to see how these guys play out in
the new format.
Ok Blood Elf Paladin and Holy talent… This is really
good. Horde has some stunning quests for the solo
minded paladin fortification player and finally a
use for Counter Attack in the solo hero format.
Ok Paladins in general got their hands on a load of
new armor and some stunning new shields and other
assorted weapons. But the key thing this paladin
received was her holy talent. Now I’m going to
complain here a bit that the Alliance Paladin didn’t
get this talent because its kind of unfair that the
horde has all 3 forms of mage but alliance only has
2 forms of paladin and holy would be an obvious
alliance talent. Now that I have complained lets
look at the talent. Basically so long as you have
the resources to play paladin heal cards you don’t
have to pay for them. Oh but here is where things
get retarded and a little out of hand.
OK lets look at it this way I have 8 resources in
play and 2 illuminations in play 6 of my resources
are used and I play infusion of light and I then get
to ready 4 resources… ok I play another and get to
ready even more resources. This talent is not only
abusive but it gives paladin free card draws and
heals. I don’t know how you’re going to curb this in
a tournament but I advise destroying illumination
when it hits the table.
So her talent is instant and her class is defensive
minded. There are some solid low cost shields now in
this format and with cards like Lay on hands in play
now your going to see a lot of stall paladin decks
and really I don’t know what’s going to happen but
its not going to be fun.
Sealed (4): I have already lost 2 sealed games to
horde paladin and it’s an extremely effective sealed
hero.
Constructed (4): Paladin is not the strongest class
but I’m going to say it’s probably going to become
the second most annoying behind priests. This hero
will be seeing a lot of tournament play in the
beginning.
Casual (4): There are a lot of fun things you could
do with paladins and I’m looking forward to seeing
the casual decks that are made with her.
Onyxia (5): Probably one of the best heroes to have
fighting the dragon, with the ability to bring
people back from the brink of death with lay on
hands this Hero will have many dragon skulls hanging
in her hall.
Lazy Peon (3): I don’t know she loses a lot of the
cards that make horde paladin great but alliance
paladin is always an option in this format and I
think horde paladin will do just fine, only time
will tell.
4, Flip Aleyah Dawnborn -> When an ally in your
party deals combat damage this turn, Aleyah heals
that much damage from herself.
Welcome to Blood Elf week (actually 2 weeks). Aleyah
Dawnborn is one of the better heroes from TDP. Horde
has very useful quests that the solo paladin was
lacking, such as Counterattack. Aleyah can take full
advantage of that quest, as well as the incredible
quests that blood elves received this set. She also
has access to Arcane Torrent, and she has the Holy
talent spec (doesn't make sense to me to give that
to Horde, but it works for her). Her flip ability is
useless if she is going solo, and not too useful
even if she isn't. Paladin's have enough ways of
healing themselves. Also, for solo builds, she has
access to Panax. If your opponent has managed to
make a wall of protectors, or you run into a medoc
lock, just blast panax, take out all your opponent's
allies at once, and finish them off.
Sealed: 4.5/5 (Prob one of the best heroes to play
in sealed format.
Just get your hands on some armor and a couple
weapons and you are all set. If you get Lay on
Hands, just stall for time, then at the last second
play it and you win.)
Constructed: 4.5/5 (I think she's an amazing hero.
She has all the paladin support cards, Holy, and
access to horde allies and blood elf
support.)
Casual: 5/5
Onyxia: 5/5 (Probably one of the best, if not the
best, heroes to use in this raid. She can keep
herself alive without needing to rely on a priest.
She can stop Onyxia's abilities without relying on a
mage. She can take out Onyxia's resources, and deal
damage. She can also wipe out all whelps with
concecration.)
Lazy Peon: 3.5/5 (Unfortunately, she isn't as good
in this format. She loses out on some good support
cards, but is still playable.)
Red Comet
Aleyah Dawnborn
My gripe with a lot of heroes in Dark Portal is that
they don't offer much reason to switch from Heroes
you're using already. Aleyah however gives you
plenty of reasons. Her ability encourages an
aggressive deck type and she still has the healing
and stall benefits of a paladin. She can't use divine
shield but, I suppose Arcane Torrent makes up for
that. Also as a blood elf she has two really nice
draw engines in Felendren the Banished and
Solanian's Belongings.
Overall a really nice hero that promotes deck
diversity.
Sealed:4/5
Sealed is a tricky format but a lot of her support
is common or uncommon so she's worth a look
Constructed:4/5
Pretty brutal in a deck built around dealing damage
Casual:4/5
Raid: 3/5
Surprisingly useful as a healer and a damage dealer
leave the tanking to Gorebelly though.
