BAND OF THE
RANGER GENERAL
This is an 3 cost ring that says pay 1 less to
strike with weapons for each weapon you have.
This is a good card, but you don’t want to play it
too early. Early game you want to play your cheap
weapons which have a 0 or 1 strike cost, so this
ring won’t help you much yet. But after you get your
tank-structure set, you can drop this on the field.
It costs three and does nothing for you right off
the bat, but as it saves you resources, it gets you
a benefit that could far-outweigh its cost. The
first thing is that opponents will rarely try to get
rid of it because it doesn’t seem like a threat, but
really, it’s a silent killer.
As a tank-player this World Championships I expect
you’ll get 2 weapons on the field easily including a
bow as one of the weapons. But many of you will also
duel-wield and have 3 on the field. If you do that
and then drop the Band on the field when you’re
about to swing, you can practically swing with any
weapon for free because you’ll be saving 3 for each
of them. What this means is that you only have to
swing with 2 2-strike cost weapons for the Band to
pay for itself. That means you’re saving free extra
resources each time you swing in the future and can
use those resources on other cards.
OR, if you have some expensive weapons in your
binder that cost a lot to swing, this ring can make
them more efficient and reasonable to use in the
game.
Now this is a good card. In case you haven't been
around the competitive scene recently, Solo decks
have become all the rage! From Gorebelly to Fillet
to Rotun, Heros walking around brandishing multiple
weapons has become a common sight.
With FOO we received a number of cards that provide
the "Dual Wield" modifiyer, which only makes Band of
the Ranger General that much better.
For example, with Band equipped to your Rotun
Daggerhand, along with Striker's Mark, Warp
Splinter's Thorn and Perdition's Blade, all three
weapons could be swung FOR FREE!
Many players are focusing on their Armor these days,
but with Surprise Attacks! becoming commonplace, it
might be better to run this card instead, and be
able to swing your Wraith Scythes for free!
-------------------------------------
Sealed:
2/5 - It's unlikely that you will get a huge
selection of Weapons to choose from
Constructed:
4/5 - Can be absolutely brutal in the right deck
Casual:
5/5 - see constructed
Raid:
2/5 - Too many cards that destroy all opposing
Abilities, Equipment and Allies, I doubt you would
get much use out of Band.
