Witchcrafter Schmietta – Yu-Gi-Oh! Review

Hello Pojo Fans,

Witchcrafters are back on Pojo CoTD and today we’re looking at the FIRE Spellcaster: Witchcrafter Schmietta.

Pop her and ditch a spell for a Special Summon from the deck of one of your Witchcrafter monsters (except this one) is a great way to thin the deck and swap her for a stronger Witchcrafter (Madame). The loss of the spell isn’t much, since you can add Witchcrafter spells back at the End Phase, essentially making Schmietta a 1-for-1. It’d be great if the effect could be chained whenever, but only during the Main Phase balances her out. Banish Schmietta for a Foolish Burial or Foolish Burial Goods can get you access to a Witchcrafter spell you need, or set up a Special Summon from the grave of a Witchcrafter monster. She’s a great level four and solid stats for not only being a base attacker, but a Normal Summon-capable monster the deck needs.

Witchcrafters are up next in The Infinity Chasers and we’ll start with one of the best Normal Summons the deck has, Witchcrafter Schmietta.

Schmietta is a Level 4 FIRE Spellcaster with 1800 ATK and 600 DEF. ATK is good enough to make up for low DEF, which I’d like to see be 200 on a FIRE monster. Spellcaster is a nice type to have and the attribute won’t matter in an archetype with so many attributes until you get hit with Gozen Match. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect) you can tribute this monster and discard a Spell to summon any Witchcrafter from the deck besides another Schmietta. The inherent minus will sting if this gets negated, but summoning from the deck is just so good and this gives you several options. You can discard archetypal Spells, which we’ll get to, or you can play Spellbooks to maintain good card advantage while having synergy with Witchcrafters being Spellcasters or splash in some Bamboo Swords to discard Cursed Bamboo Sword to make use of Golden Bamboo Sword (have a Broken Bamboo Sword in the deck as well). The options it can summon from the deck include other similar floaters like Schmietta, a revival option, a removal monster, and a mass negation and stat boosting monster so having options like that are great. Schmietta can also be banished from the graveyard to send a Witchcrafter card from the deck to the grave, which will most likely be a Spell and you’ll soon see why, but having an archetypal Foolish Burial in an archetype that can use the graveyard is just perfect to have. Schmietta is the best low level Witchcrafter easily in my opinion and is the one you max out on.

Hear that?  It’s Alex’s excitement for Witchcraft(er) week.  Witchcrafter Schmietta kicks things off (albeit in early summer, not Fall/Halloween time, but I’m still excited) as a Fire, Spellcaster Monster who’s Level 4 with 1800 attack (a good thing) and 600 defense (not such a good thing).  So let’s see here, a Tribute of this card (and this is a Quick effect) lets you Discard a Magic card following.

This, then, lets you Special Summon another Witchcrafter Monster from your Deck, naturally, excluding present company.  That’s a two for one, in theory, not in your favor, but if you’ve got a Spellbook build with this, throwing one of them in your Graveyard with this isn’t a bad idea, and helps fuel other things you can do as well, so it can work in your favor.  

Lastly, by removing this card from your Graveyard from play, you can send any (ANY) theme card from your Deck to your Graveyard.  Being open to not being just a Monster only adds more combo potential to this card.  It also excludes itself, and both effects here are once per turn, but I understand.  Can’t do too much too fast in a single card these days, right?

Sorry to be late to the party, had to watch GoT this morning. Happy Monday indeed. Anyway, Witchcrafter Schmietta is now the usual necessary starter of an archetype. This one Special Summons a different Witchcrafter monster from the deck at the cost of tributing herself and the discard of 1 Spell. I like that this is a once per turn Quickeffect because you could attack with 1800 and then do more damage with a new monster. While in the grave, once per turn you can banish Schmietta to send a different Witchcrafter card from the deck to the grave. That is the theme to be in the grave and make grand plays. I hope it works all 3 times per turn because you need to run 3.
