The first of its kind – and still one of the best. The effect is more relevant than ever now that creatures do so many different things; it’s at a good cost to combine with mana acceleration (even if that acceleration is a creature!). The only thing I’d point out is that it can no longer be considered the universal answer it once was, due to the rise of planeswalkers. Of course, one of the ways to deal with planeswalkers is to attack with creatures, so imagine the demoralizing effect of casting this and following up with your own Elspeth or Gideon . . .

Wrath of God is one of those spells that has been iterated on many times over the years, but it still holds a surprising amount of power 27 years after it debuted in Alpha. Four mana to blow up all creatures (with anti-regeneration upside) remains the going rate for mass removal without any real downside, and it’s still just good enough to see play in Modern for its efficiency (even if most decks would take Supreme Verdict over it if given the choice). All the same, it’s an iconic card for good reason, and it’s nice to see it get reprinted.

Constructed: 3.25 (it’s more a sideboard card anymore, but it’s powerful all the same, and it’d be very good in Standard)
