Mike B's Top 10 Trap cards
These are 10 trap cards that probably already see alot of play in tournaments. These cards also follow the ban list coming in October (So dont expect Imperial Order on this list).
10) Sakuretsu Armor:
Trap card:
You can ony activate this card when your opponent declares
an attack. Destroy the attacking monster.
Basically its "the poor guy's Mirror Force". Like Mirror, it activates only when the opponent attacks. It only destroys 1 monster, but sometimes thats all it takes. It was a common from DCR, so its pretty easily obtainable. Unfortunately, since it cannot be chained and is basically Bantha fodder until your opponent attacks, its # 10.
9) Magic Cylinder:
Trap card:
Negate the attack of 1 of your opponents monsters and
inflict damage equal to the attacking monsters ATK to your oppnents Life
points.
Not a bad trap. Stops the attack and can deal direct damage to your opponent. Unfortunately, like Sakuretsu, cant be chained. Generally, it will be MST'd or Breaker....ed (???) before you get the effect off.
8) Cursed Seal of Forbidden Spell:
Counter Trap card:
Discard 1 Spell card from your hand to the
graveyard to negate the effect of a Spell card and destroy it. Your
opponent cannot activate Spell cards of the same name (including the same card
destroyed by this cards effect) for the remainder of the duel.
Like a new Magic Jammer. You have to discard a Spell card to activate it instead of just a card. Luckily though, your opponent cant use cards of the same name for the rest of the duel. Save this for when your opponent uses MST.
7) Judgement of Anubis:
Counter Trap card:
Discard a card from your hand to negate the
activation and effect of a Spell Card controlled by your opponentthat includes
the effect of destroying Spell and/or Trap Card(s) on the field and destroying
it. Then, you can destroy a face up monster on your opponents's side
and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster.
Another good replacement for Magic Jammer. With this, you can discard any card in your hand to negate and destroy a Spell card. Its second effect, which usually dosent work 75% of the time, but when it does, its almost like a mini Ring of Destruction but without you taking damage. This works well when you have magic/trap cards to protect on your feild (Necrovalley, Call of the haunted, etc.....).
6) Solemn Judgement:
Counter trap card:
Pay half your Life Points when your
opponent either activates Magic or Trap or summons a monster (Including Special
Summon) to negate the action and destroy all the cards involved.
This card, or Horn of Heaven, should be at least in everyone's side deck. This card can negate practically ANYTHING, including the chaos monsters! (Yayyy!) Its cost of 50% of your Life Points wont hurt much, especially if you use this near the end of the duel. This card is awsome if played correctly.
5) Torrential Tribute:
Trap card:
You can activate this card when a monster is Summoned (including Flip Summon and Special Summon). Destroy all monsters on the field.
Somewhat like a Dark Hole. This card has seen alot of play as of late. This can destroy all monsters on the feild, even if theyre special summoned. This card is great when you need to clear your opponents feild. Um....thats about all.
4) Call of the Haunted:
Continuous Trap:
Select 1 monster from your Graveyard and Special
Summon it in face-up Attack Position. When this card is destroyed or removed
from the field, the summoned monster is destroyed. If the summoned monster is
destroyed, this card is also destroyed.
Like Premature Burial, but with a few downsides in my opinion.
1) Its a trap, so it cant be actiavted immediately.
2) Only revives from your own graveyard.
On the plus side, it has no life point cost to activate. A good card that every deck pretty much runs. Its continuous, meaning its a target for HFD, MST or Breaker. Awsome card, but not the number 1.
3) Ring of Destruction:
Trap card:
Destroy 1 face-up Monster Card and inflict Direct Damage
equal to the destroyed cards ATK to the Life Points of both you and your
opponent.
Awsome card, simply put. This can really help especially in the
beginning of the game when your LP are high. This can be chained to MST
and deals damages to both you and your opponent. There are many combos
involving this card, RoD and Barrel Behind the Door, RoD and Chaos Emperor
Dragon, etc..... Use this on your Witch or Sangan and get their effect
while hurting your opponent. Very nice card, plus since it came out as an
ultra rare with the IOC special edition packs,is quite easy to find (I have 3 f
them, 1 PGD).
2) Mirror Force:
Trap card:
When an opponent's monster attacks, negate
the attack and destroy all
opponent's monsters in attack
position.
Almost everyone I know is starting to take this out of their decks. This is a potent card and has saved my rear on countless occasions. UNfortunately with almost everyone runnig 3 MST's, Breaker and HFD, this card usually only gets its effect 50% of the time. But when it does, to destroy all monsters in ATK position on your opponents feild can sometimes change the outcome of the duel, especially against Beatdown decks that pretty much run all offense. Nice card.
1) Waboku:
Trap card:
Any damage inflicted by an opponent's monster is decreased to 0 during the turn this card is activated.
Yes, Waboku. This, in my opinion, is the ultimate trap. The ability to prevent battle damage during the entire turn this card is played is outstanding. Everyone should rnu 1-2 of these in a deck. This card can be chained to anything, and thats what makes it so potent. This card will always have a place in my deck and should in almost all of your's. If your a reader of my previous articles (top 10 Feinds and top 10 Spells) then you know I save the best for last, and well.......there it is. Waboku, master of Traps.
Well, there they are. I didnt get time to do it this week, so Ill do it next week, my top 10 list of Spellcaster monsters. Ill also be seeing the movie opening August 13th, so I'll give a reveiw of the promo cards along with my top 10 list. Thats all for now, so fi you have any questions, comments or just want to talk, just email me at Dnecrofear16@yahoo.com . See ya.
