Joshua's Top Ten Yu-Gi-Oh Cards of Legend of Blue Eyes

In my next 12 top ten, I would like to rate the most used cards, ones that could be used, or ones that were used in past metagames out of each set. This starts with, of course, Legend of Blue Eyes. The rating are in according to the current metagames, mostly chaos and Control decks.

10. Yami-Common

I know! I know! Lame choice, but its one of the few playable commons in this entire set. In fact, its one of the only few playable cards as well. However, Mstic Plasma Zone is far superior and this should only be played if your playing with starter decks only!

Rating: 3.5

9. Man-Eater Bug-Super Rare

Up until the release of Nobleman of Crossout in PSV, this was practically a staple monster. These were the days that flip effects were played in all decks, and this was the King. Until the release of Cyber Jar, at which time it lost more playability and is now only remembered by the vets, as myself, that started way back when. MEB, your then game breaking effect will not be forgotten

Rating: 6

8. Trap Hole-Super Rare/Fissure-Rare

These were two of the most feared cards in the game in the beginning, until the onslaught of M/T removal/negation came into play, at which point, these puppies, much like MEB, dropped drastically in playability. Times change, I guess.

Rating(Trap Hole):4/10

Rating(Fissure):6/10, a decent replacement for Raigeki once bans take place

7. Exodia (Set)-all Ultra Rares

I shouldnt have to explain the effect of the Exodia set to anybody. Basically, if you hold all five cards in your hand at the same time, you win. One life point to 9999, you still win. Until the Hand Disruption decks started popping up left and right, this was the most powerful kind of deck in the game. I would love to see this make a comeback, as it is one of my favorite deck arch-types

Rating:6.5/10

6. Tri-Horned Dragon-Secret Rare

This card, in my opinion is more playable in todays metagames than it was in the LOB days. The only problem, it is quite a rare card. However, if you can get a hold of it, it could be an interesting base for a dragon deck.

Rating: 6.5/10

5. Red Eyes Black Dragon-Ultra Rare

To think, this was always overshadowed by the great Blue Eyes. Well, with the release of the next set, this card adds more cards to its all ready decent roster of support cards. One card that stands out as ultimate support for this monster that is already available in the Ancient Sanctuary expansion is Double Coston, a Dark/Zombie with the same stats and effect as Kaiser Seahorse, only for dark monsters, making this baby a one tribute beast that rivals the almighty Jinzo. I have hope for Joeys mascot card, and would one day like to build a deck around it, as it can be very playable in the environment if you can keep your cards away from CED or Yata.

Rating:7.5/10, 8.5 once Soul of Duelist is released

4. Blue Eyes White Dragon-Ultra Rare

The light type, slightly higher base attack of Tri horned Dragon. Only, this monster is far more widely known. This and Dark Magician are Yu-Gi-Oh mascots. Anyway, like Tri-Horn, this card is far more playable today within the current environment, Blue Eyes even moreso. However, with everyone running Chaos, and dragon decks needing quite the number of cards to work correctly, it can be hard to pull off. However, it can be rewarding. It too benefits from the same cards as reds eyes, and has Kaiser Seahorse to turn it into a one-tribute wonder.

Rating: 8/10

3. Dark Magician-Ultra Rare

Out of this and the two above cards, this magician has the most support, with almost a whole set revolving around him and his allies. He even has a girlfriend for heaven sakes! Double Coston works great here too, along with quite a few of his friends, and Diffusion Wave Motion (my first secret rare pull from a pack BTW) seems as though it was made for him(really, read the card). With tons of support, I really dont see why more people dont run Dark Magician decks. Maybe its because it is quite expensive to aquire the support cards. Nah, these are the same people who bought CED, Yata, and Don.

Rating: 8.5/10

2. Dark Hole-Super Rare/Raigeki-Super Rare

Dark Hole. A staple from the start, and it remains there still today. You may disagree, but I find that Dark Hole can set you up for some nice recursion strategies, and screw up your opponent at the same time. Also, it can get that Witch into the graveyard your opponent has been hesitant to attack.

Raigeki. One of those cards that make you scream Why Upperdeck, Why? Take the Destroy your monsters part from Dark Hole and you have Raigeki. Its simple as that. Nobody can say otherwise, it is the best monster removal in the game, period. They could have at least made it into an ultra rare. At no cost whatsoever to you, it can be annoying as Yata.  Its restricted to one, and soon banned, for a reason.

Rating(Dark Hole):8.5/10

Rating(Raigeki):9.5/10

And finally, the cream of the crop. If you dont know what Im talking about, then you should go back to the Duel Monsters Dueling Academy you graduated from.

1. Pot of Greed-Rare

Draw two cards. As far as I remember, the shortest effect of a magic card in the entire game. This card, IMO, is the only perfect card. This card has no cost or no drawbacks whatsoever. Yet, it can be the greatest card to use on your in absolutely any situation. Thats right, it is the only card I can think of that can be helpful in any predicament you find yourself in. Just get CEDd? Draw a Pot of Greed. Whala! Hand Advantage! Need cards to discard for TIV? Pot of Greed. Yay! More monster removal! Need that HFD to clear the field and end the game? Pot of Greed. Woo! Your getting closer(or have just drawn) the card you needed.

Infact, the only bad situation is if you only have one or no cards left. However, if you go the whole duel and draw your entire deck, you had better be a burner/stall, or I aint buying that. Anyway, the above is very unlikely.

BTW, to the crack heads at Upperdeck who gave this card its rarity better read this: The next time you reprint Pot of Greed, make it a secret rare. Goodness knows that Gaia the Dragon Champion couldnt have been given secret rare value purposely, could it?

Rating: 10/10, the only card in the entire game that deserves a perfect rating

That concludes this list. Next up is Metal Raiders.

As a consolation, I will rate what I believe is the worst card in the set that is of super rare or higher rarity.

Gaia the Dragon Champion-Secret Rare

Ah, Gaia. You changed from a crappy normal 2300 attack, two tribute monster, to a crappy 2600 attack fusion monster fusing with another one of the worst tribute monsters in the game. The only reason this guy is on the list is because if I run out of good cards in the set, Ill do the secrets, and go into ultra rare territory if needed.

As much as I love fusion monsters, they are already pretty unplayable (without scientist, of course) and this guys does anything but help that argument. A terrible candidate for a secret rare. Pot of Greed, anyone?

Rating: 2.5/10 (.5 added for the fact that it somehow, had to be a mistake, became a secret rare)
