Subject: Top Ten Favorite Fairies
Hiya! I’m here with yet again another Top 10 list. Angels/Fairies had always been one of my favorite Monster Types, so here is a list of my top 10 favorite Fairies. This list includes both American and Japanese cards, as well as two cards from the anime.
10) Soul of Purity and Light/Holy Shine Soul--I love the Holy Shine Soul since you can Special Summon her by removing Light monsters in your Graveyard from play, which, up until now, is unable to be negated. She’s pretty much a Special Summoned Level 4 if you look at it. The two Light monster cost is kind of high, but with #9 now out, she is now a lot more playable; try adding in Spell Economics from Ancient Sanctuary and Dimension Fusion for more fun! Thanks to Miss Soul’s special effect, she can either stop or suicide into 2000 ATK+ monsters, including Goblin Attack Force and the infamous Vampire Lord.
9) The Agent of Creation Venus--A Level 3 1600 ATK Fairy? Awesome! Venus and #10 are a match made in heaven, literally. It’s pretty much the perfect symbiosis; Holy Shine Soul can protect Venus with her effect and her 2000 ATK, and Venus can help summon her with her own effect. Venus can summon Mystical Shine Balls by paying 500 Life Points, so you can try throwing a few Marie the Fallen One into your Graveyard, or use White Magician Pikeru. You can also use Venus’s effect to summon Tribute Monsters, including my #1 pick.
8) Dunames Dark Witch/Dunamis Valkyria--Dunamis Valkyria is the second strongest Level 4 Light Monster, alongside Hysteric Fairy, in the TCG/OCG. Her 1800 ATK makes her outdated, but at least she can equip Cestus of Dagula when she ever comes out. Her artwork is amazing, and she has a very nice surprise for you if you take a closer look at the picture…
7) Wingweaver/Winged Messenger--Ah, I remember falling in love with this card back when Pharaoh’s Servant came to the States. Now with Kaiser Sea Horse from the Kaiba Evoulution Starter Deck, she can be summoned with one tribute. Even without her halo, Wingweaver is one of the coolest-looking cards ever.
6) Guardian Airtos--Airtos is one of the anime Fairies, and will be in new U.S. Yu-Gi-Oh season this fall. I think her special effects go by something like being able to be summoned if there are no monsters in the Graveyard, and she can gain ATK equal to the number of monsters you remove from the opponent‘s Graveyard from play. Not only that, she’s incredibly beautiful! Definitely one of my favorite Angels.
5) Command Angel--This is the second and final anime Fairy, and is similar to Command Kinight in Main-Type (She’s Fire just like CK) and stats. She increases all Fairies’ ATK by 400 points. I can’t wait for Konami/Upperdeck to release this!
4) Dancing Fairy--Awww, they’re just sooooooo cute! Too bad you have to keep them in Defense Position to activate their effect. Oh well, at least you can use cards like Zero Gravity, or the new Labyrinth of Nightmare Trap Card from Ancienty Sanctuary to change their position before your next Standby Phase. Otherwise, they have one of the best ATKs for Wind monsters.
3) St. Joan/Saint Jeanne--Although her Effect Monster alter ego is much better, you can still summon her via Metamorphosis, Mother Grizzly, and Metallizing Parasite Lunatite. It’s simple: play Mother Grizzly, have her destroyed in battle, then use Metamorphosis to Tribute Lunatite for Saint Jeanne. She’s still one of the strongest Fusion Monsters in the TCG/OCG.
2) The Agent of Wisdom Mercury--Here’s another Fairy that blends very well together with Soul of Purity and Light. As long as she is on the field, most Level 4s will never get through Mercury’s 1700 ATK. Also, if you don’t have any cards during the end of your opponent’s turn, during your Standby Phase, you get to draw an extra card. Sweet! He’s also one of the coolest looking Fairies I’ve ever seen, and I especially dig the bald head and his resemblance to Shada from the Memory Arc (It’s the current saga playing in the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh anime series).
1) Guardian Angel Joan/Guardian Angel Jeanne--I think I’ve just fallen in love with Guardian Angel Joan. She has it all: a great ATK, an awesome Life Point-gaining effect, and one of the most drop dead gorgeous artwork ever. To sweeten the deal more, she can be summoned for one Tribute with Kaiser Sea Horse. This is probably one guardian angel every man would want.
Anyway, if you have comments, or want to discuss how cool (or sexy) Guardian Angel Joan is, email me at
