Top 10 Japanese & English
Traps
Here's the list I made of what I think are the top 10
traps in both the English and Japanese versions of the game. Just to let you
know, this list's kind of lengthy.
*All Japanese card effects are from
#10~Avatar of Apophis/Metal Reflect Slime
Avatar Of Apophis
Permanent Trap
This card can only be activated during a Main Phase.
After activated, this card becomes a Monster card (Earth/Reptile/4/1600/1800),
and it Special Summoned to your Monster Zone (it's still considered a Trap
card).
Metal Reflect Slime
Permanent Trap
After activating, this card becomes a Monster Card
(Water/Aqua/10/0/3000) and is Special Summoned to your Monster Zone in defense
mode. This card cannot attack. (It is still treated as a Trap
Card.)
The two trap-monster cards of the Japanese and
soon-to-be English game. These two beat Magic Cylinder and Waboku for a spot on
the list, because of their versatility as compared to Magic Cylinder, and their
combo-possibilities as compared to Waboku. With this card, you can get something
like a Invader Of Darkness or Archlord Zerato out second-turn. Talk about
versatility.
#9~Judgment Of Anubis
I'm not going to include the effect for the cards
already released in English, just to let you
know.
This card ranked low on the list because of its low
versatility. This card has major burn possibilities, and can cause some major
damage when used right. However, it's best used in burn decks, but can fit into
almost any deck, and can work well with another card on this
list.
#8~Clone Duplication
Normal Trap
You can activate this card when your opponent
successfully
Another very versatile card. It's best used for
tribute-summons, but can also set up defensive walls if your opponent
summons a strong monster. It can also get you something like an effect-less
Goblin Attack Force, which would set up a decent
attack.
#7~Soul Line
Normal Trap
You can activate this card when a Monster on your Field
is
destroyed and goes to a Cemetery. Pay 1000 Life Points and
you
can Special Summon 1 Level 4 Monster from your
deck.
As you can see, versatility is one of the main things
I've looked into on this list, not just the ability to be chained to
its destruction, but combo-orientation as well. This card can set up walls, and
set up tributes, and attacks.
#6~Holy Life Barrier
Normal Trap
Discard 1 card from your hand. During the turn
that this card is
activated, all damage received from your opponent becomes
0.
Personally, I think this card is better than Waboku,
another reason Waboku didn't make this list. Unlike Waboku, it prevents ALL
damage, not just damage from attacks, but damage from effects, all for the small
price of a discard.
#5~Sixth Sense
Normal Trap
State two numbers, from 1 to 6. Your opponent
rolls one six-sided die, and if the roll is either of the stated numbers, draw
that many cards. If not, put a number of cards from the top of your deck
into your Cemetery equal to the die roll.
This card may be the best draw card in the game, or at
least the one with the most potential. You would normally choose 5 and 6 for the
numbers to be rolled, for it would be for the greatest benefit if it succeeds,
and the least severity of the drawback if it were to
fail.
#4~Ring of
Destruction
Back to the English cards. Many consider this card to be
a staple, and it has limitless combo possibilities. Enough
said.
#3~Imperial Order
A free Magic Jammer, or a permanent magic negator if you
pay the 700 points per turn. One of the most useful of all
traps.
#2~Mirror Force
Alot of people will disagree with me on the next two,
but this is my opinion, not yours. Mirror Force is an extremely good trap card
that belongs in all decks. Many people think Mirror Force is the best trap in
the English set, which it is, but there is a Japanese card that I believe can be
more devastating.
Now for #1.
#1~Reversal of Worlds
Normal Trap
You may activate this card is your Cemetery has 15 or
more cards
in it. Pay 1000 Life Points. Each player switches his
or her
deck with his or her Cemetery. Each player shuffles his or
her
new deck afterward.
While it may not look like it at first, this card can be
pretty devastating. What you need to do is find a way to get 15 cards into your
graveyard on your first turn, and set Reversal of Worlds. Before your opponent
draws on their first turn, activate Reversal of Worlds. If you did everything
right, your opponent won't have any deck to draw from, meaning you'd win on the
first turn. This card is also one of my personal
favorites.
Okay, I know I'm going to get some hate mail for this,
so bring it on! My name's James, and my e-mail is Brainiac136@yahoo.com. Till next
time...
