Fun Decks Vs Winning Decks - Kris

I am a long time fan of Yu Gi Oh and a long time visitor to the site though this is my first tip / article. First of all let me say I love this site and find it a wonderful mixing pot of ideas, strategies, and oppinions. Today I will be addressing a problem I have noticed for some time now. Fun Decks Vs Winning Decks. With the soon to be complete translation of all available Yu Gi Oh cards from japanese (when promos get done) All decks both japanese and english have the same potency potential. But ever since the first three set releases some cards have been prevelent. These are refered to as staples and are 'a must' in any deck. The problem with these 'multipurpose' cards is that they are EVERYWHERE. Decks are now developed with the "These are great cards everyone else uses so I will use them too." Decks now all resemble one another and if you removed the sleeves you would hardly tell one from the other. I also do not care to see or hear people critising another duelist as 'stupid' or 'not as good' because they will not cow tow to using the same-old-cards. The reason the anime has been sucessful is because all characters have diffrent preferances and use diffrent deck strategies and that is what the card game has tried to offer. Why should they keep developing cards if no one is going to use them? The point of this game is to have fun, not to win money. Now granted you can play an elma deck and be tournament potential, or beat down, or chaos, and all kick butt, but are you having fun? The same strategies and combos every time and unless you get a sick pleasure out of bullying your opponent in the duel there is not any fun involved. If you play however cards that you 'like' you will have more enjoyment of the game win or loose. I am tired of seeing people fix decks saying things like 'Well you HAVE to have Killer snake, Witch of black forest, ring of destruction etc' I Run several decks and get the most enjoyment out of the decks with hardly any 'staples' in them. So next time you put your deck together play what you enjoy playing not what the group majority is playing or are saying 'is good', also the next time you dare critisie a duelist and or their deck think if you are being original and a good duelist yourself or are you just copying a bunch of cards.

Closing quote: "I have alot more respect for any half decent insect deck than any deck with yatagarasu lock in mind."
