Number 1 Trade Destroyer...Card
Condition-Camex
Hey, I haven't written
an article last month because there really wasn't a article to yugioh I felt was
unaddressed but due to recent events, I have found inspiration in writing this
article. In past articles, I have written about Trading, including approaching a
trade and the follow up bargaining ( a topic I will update in a later article).
Now however I wish to address the number one cause of death to a trade, the
Card's actual condition.
There have been
plenty of times that I have been turned off to a trade almost immediately after
meeting a person. Heres the scenario...
Camex- Hey, you have cards for trade?
Potential Trader-Oh yeah
I have a bunch (reaching into pocket grabbing a mess of cards out which are
unprotected in any way whatsoever)
Camex- Geez, uh I don't think I really
want to trade anymore, sorry.
Now I
understand that not everyone is dumping a ton of money into Yugioh ( this
includes but is not limited to those who run economic decks) but spend the $2-5
on some simple plastics! I mean, thats about the price of a pack! So when you go
to your local comic shop to buy a few packs of cards, maybe hold back on buying
one and purchase some card sleeves. Believe me, in the long run, your cards WILL
last longer and people WILL be more impressed with them. Quite simply, you
should show pride in what cards you have anyway.
Ok, now that I have the no sleeves cleared up, lets move up a bit
to those who actually have card sleeves for their cards. For those of you out
there who take the time to protect the cards you have invested in I say
congradulations. You have proven that you are protecting an investment. For
those of you who care about the long term use of your cards, I have a bit of
advice. Double layer your cards. What does that mean? Well hears what you do.
Buy a set of Magic the gathering sized plastics and yugioh sized plastics. When
you have those, put the yugioh plastics on your card upside down, then slip the
protected card into the Magic sized plastic right side up. This sucessfuly
protects all four sides of your card, give your card a snugger fit and give it a
much longer life.
Indirectly, this also
allows for a level of customization to your deck. You can mix and match the
colors of the platics to reflect your personal taste, theme of the deck or
favorite team colors.
In short,
protecting your cards shouldn't be a burden, rather a responsibility to the card
owner. Besides, you make the money back when your cards don't decline in value
because of poor conditions.
