Chaosrider Gustaph: a second look------ Chief
HELLO CHILDREN....they call me chief because IM always giving advice to silly little children with round heads... I was just reading the terrible reviews that COTD gave the new super rare Chaosrider Gustaph it averaged like a 1.5 out of 5 i think, and yet no one mentioned the true power and potential of the card and i feel it is my duty as a player that has played for as long as cards have been available in my area, to inform the gaming public of the true power of the card. first lets look at the card text

IOC-018
Chaosrider Gustaph
Wind
Warrior/4/1400/1500
You can remove up to 2 Spell Cards in your Graveyard from play to increase the ATK of this monster by 300 points for each card removed from play until the end of your opponent's next turn. This effect can only be used once during your turn.
sure its cool looking...i think its actually a non-ritual version of one of bakuras cards that was in a tournament pack a while ago ... cant remember the name but w.e. the biker from hell (or heck rather) is mediocre at best on its own, and for this i understand the awful reviews but if we combine this with another card from the set D.D. borderline things get interesting

IOC-040
D. D. Borderline
Spell
Continuous
When there are no Spell Cards in your Graveyard, neither player can conduct their Battle Phase.
And It becomes a great deal more playable. The lock works as follows:
1. Put the cards on the field together.... ( this is obvious)
2. Place a magic card in the graveyard (i.e. play it) so you can conduct your battle phase normally
3. At the end of your turn remove the magic cards from the game with Chaosrider Gustaph's effect so your opponent may not attack
4. lather rinse and repeat

Okay i know what you are thinking ... you'll never get that combo out ... what about MST... ect... ect... well thats the nature of the game... your combo will be countered except it and learn to live with it, that said while the combo is in play its quite possible to stall for a long time just so long as you wait until your opponent has burned a bit of his magic and trap removal, it lends itself quite well to a deck out or any other deck type that requires time to set up. Also if you combine this with a few other underrated cards from IOC...

Tower of Babel
Trap
Continuous
Each time you or your opponent activates a Spell Card, put 1 Spell Counter on this card. When the 4th Spell Counter is put on this card, destroy this card and inflict 3000 points of damage to the player that activated the Spell Card at that time.

or its little brother

Curse of Darkness
Trap
Continuous
Each time a Spell Card is activated, the controller of that Spell Card takes 1000 points of damage.
or

my personal fav card in the set

Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell
Trap
Counter
Discard 1 Spell Card from your hand to negate the activation and the effect of a Spell Card and destroy it. Your opponent cannot activate Spell Cards of the same name (including the Spell Card that is destroyed by this card's effect) during the rest of the Duel.
( i know i know its WAY situational, but at least one in your side deck will cripple your opponent at the right moment, just imagine he activates MST and you chain this, he has just lost 3 of his most useful cards, more over if he has already burn a duster or heavy storm, you have gained almost complete freedom when it comes to magic and traps)

As I have laid out with the proper support Chaosrider Gustaph can stall almost indefinitely ...  deck out ... deck out..... deck out.. ahem ... its a fun card to play.. try it out ... hate it, love it, hate me, love me but drop me a line at
Midgar5020@aol.com  and be creative, keep yugioh alive

PS>>> PLZ stop whining about beatdowns being cheap, don't complain find ways around them
