Controversial Subject on
Originality - Starwars370
Almost all of the postings on
this part of Pojo.com is about 1 thing: originality of dueling decks. Some
people believe that having a Chaos or Beatdown Deck is "unoriginal," and that
they are supposed to be having fun. That the banlist is a good thing so they
will see more "unique" cards. I, on the other hand, as well as many others think
that that is a bunch of phooey. I would like to explain myself in the following
paragraphs.
Disclaimer: I promise that this
article is not at all biased. I know both sides of the debate very well because
I too play a Beatdown Deck. I also play a Dark Magician Deck to get a little
"outside the box." I play at regional tournaments and get demolished by better
Beatdown and Chaos Decks.
The thing that ticks
me off the most is that people say that the duelists playing Chaos and Beatdown
Decks aren't having fun. If the game wasn't fun for them, why would they be
playing the game? Sure, you may say that a better way to have fun is play with
"original" cards. But winning is just as fun.
Second, many people say that all Chaos and Beatdown Decks are the same with no
originality whatsoever, that all the cards are the same, that they're tired of
dueling them, etc., etc. They play them because they are good. Plain and simple.
Sure, you may say that they are obsessed with winning and have no fun, but
you're wrong. They find that winning is more fun then losing, so they want a
winning deck strategy so they have more fun.
And
those same people also think that they all use "staple cards" and "broken cards"
and that they should find better, more "different" cards to replace them. They
play those cards because they are good. They want to win (not obsessed) so they
try to get good cards so they can win.
