What doesn't work -
Paul
Alright it's really annoying to have combos and cards
suggested to me that don't work. I'm going to go through a few select
cards and such and explain the rulings on why they do not function as you might
think they do.
Big Burn - DOES NOT WORK AGAINST CHAOS
Summoning a
monster isn't an effect and therefore Big Burn can't be activated in response to
a Chaos monster. Please pass this around, I get about 5 people a week
telling me to throw this in my sidedeck.
Barrel Behind the Door - Doesn't
work against another Barrel or many other things
Since I'm sure you all know
that LP payments don't work with it, I'm going to go into why it wouldn't work
against another Barrel no matter what way you look at it. The ruling is
that Barrel has to target a card dealing damage; Barrel only redirects the
damage from another card so you can't chain your Barrel to someone else's.
Also, if it were to work, the first one would go off last in the chain so the
damage would end up being redirected back to the person who activated the 2nd
Barrel anyway.
Next, it can't be used against continuous effects or
effects that don't definately deal damage. Continuous would be Wave Motion
Cannon and Dark Snake Syndrome, the other cards would be Dice Jar and the
like. I realize someone else said this, but people still post such combos
and they *somehow* get put up, so I believe its fair to keep posting the fact
that such combos can't work.
Spirit Reaper - Can be special summoned from
the grave
This one doesn't come up alot, but some people who should know
better seem to think that if I reborn a Reaper, it automatically dies.
It's being targeted in a graveyard so therefore its effect doesn't take
place! Also, if you take control of it while its face down, the effect
can't work because you can't know what the effect of a face down card is and
therefore it is a viable option to use Change of Heart on it.
Protector
of the Sanctuary - Fairly hard to combo with
You can only use Flip effects to
make a player draw cards, as you simply can't activate abilities that would make
a player draw in that situation. Flip effects have to happen, so Morphing
Jar could still rid each of your hands.
PS - No I don't know *why* you can't
activate abilities that make your opponent draw, because Protector certainly
says nothing about you not being able to do so, but its a ruling.
Breaker
- Gets no counter when special summoned
Simple as that. Better for you
to find out now than in a tourney where you just wasted a Reborn/Premature by
getting a 1600 ATK monster.
Thats all for now. As usual, email me
any comments, decks you need tweaking, or whatever.
