Tournament or Cascual Play Deck Building Guide - Rokuro

I know all of duelists have writen articles on deck building, but I'm going to break it down and try to explain to everyone that it's more difficult than you think to build a strong, powerful deck. Before I get started. I'd like to point out one amazing fact. It's a fact that not too many people will understand, and there's probably a lot of debates about this, but you should only have one deck. And another amazing fact is that. Too many people mimic the Yu-Gi-Oh! Series in Actual GamePlay.....Anyways. I'll stop giving this speech and start talking about deck building.

Step #1) Pick a theme.

Cookie Cutter, Chaos, Beat-Down, Attribute, Sub-Type, Fusion, Ritual, Union, Dark Paladin, Life Gain, Burn, Specfic Monster etcetra. Tho you should pick a reasonable theme. A Blue-Eyes White Dragon Deck isn't going to truely go anywhere. Beat-Down decks aren't that powerful, and Chaos Deck can be stopped by Jowgen, or NecroValley, or The End of Anbuis. Everydeck has a weakness. So don't feel bad when your deck loses. Sub-Type and Attribute decks don't function so well either. You need an array of cards to complete your strategy(s). Tho it's a good idea to have a deck revolve around one or two certain strategies... It's plan and simply irrelevant.

Your theme can even be something you picked up while walking, or dreaming, or whatever. I picked up the theme for my deck while listening to a song called 'Key of the Twilight'. There's no set theme within my deck, it just has a fansy title, I use my cards together, no matter what cards they seem to be, tho you need a deck full of cards that will function together. Like you would throw in The Eye of Truth just so you can draw it and play it with Bad Reaction to Simochi. Or a pile of tributes without little monsters. Or a Ritual Spell without the Ritual Monster and Vice-Versa. You need cards that are going to work together.

Step #2) Supporting Cards and Staples.

Every theme has some cards that need to go in and everydeck has some of the same cards, such as Pot of Greed, Premature Burial, Heavy Storm etc. Due to the ban lists a lot of decks will be falling apart, but truth be told. It's much easier to make a deck without using any of those cards. No reason to quit when you can create a much better deck without them. Glance threw your collection and maybe you'll notice some cards that will work well with your new deck. You'll find something that's never been so good in your eyes at that moment. And when you think about putting a card. Think hard and into the future. And ask yourself. 'Is this card really going to help?' Once thats out of the way. You'll have a ironicly large pile of cards infront of your eyes. Look threw them and ask yourself the same questions. I bunch of them will be gone ^^'.....

Step #3) Test Run.

Now you have a pile of cards. Straighten them up and shuffle your cards. Draw 5 and see what strategy you can make out of them, shuffle your cards back and keep doing this. Chances are you'll find more wasted space within your deck.

Step #4) What's in and Whats out?

By now, you have to think of an online for your deck. For Example 18 Monsters, 16 Spells, and 6 Traps. Then you can build on that outline. You'll find getting down to 40 is pretty hard. So you take a few out. But wait! You need these cards. These is where your side decks comes in handy.

Step #5) Final Test.

You know have your deck made. Congratz. So repeat Step #3 with it. Then spread your deck out and see what works with what. Then you can expland and you'll probably be back at Step #2. Sooner or later you'll find a great deck and more respect for your cards.
