Article # 4 - Futuristic Fiends
For this article, we’ll be looking at some of the most powerful Fiends of the future. We begin with Newt; Better known as Slate Warrior in the English game.
Newt
Air/Demon (Wind/Fiend) - Level 4 - 1900/400
Effect: Flip: Increase this Monster's attack and defense strengths by 500. Decrease the attack and defense strength of a Monster that destroys this one during Battle by 500.
*Newt is an extremely rare Japanese Promo card (Secret/Ultra rare) from the “Shin Duel Monsters 2” game, which, if I’m not mistaken, is the same as the English “Duelist of the Roses.” No telling when it will be released in English.*
Now, Newt was recently taken off the Japanese Restricted List, from being
Restricted to 1. 2 of the main reasons were just because the Japanese Newt is
just extremely rare and hard to find, so rarely will anyone have more than one.
Plus, it's not like anyone would use more than 1 in a deck anyways, and
certainly not more than 2, so there was no point to really restrict Newt
anymore.
Its Effect is pretty awesome, and great for Beatdown and Fiend decks, but this
card's already being overrated by English duelists who see Slate Warrior pop up
in the video games and such. It's a good card, yes, but not as good as you may
first think.
If you're able to flip this Monster on your own, raising its ATK to 2400 is
simply great. A devastating Effect that can really harm the opponent and can
take out almost any Monster you might see in an opponent's deck. Also, if
anything is powerful enough to destroy Newt, or if it's destroyed while face
down, that Monster will only have its ATK lowered so you can do some extra
damage with one of your own Monsters. Both of Newt's Effects are pretty nice,
but they're not "broken" or anything close to it. If you do get your Newt up to
2400 ATK though, and you can keep it on the Field, your opponent's in for some
certain trouble.
Newt was a big hit when it was first released in Japan as a promo card for the
New Duel Monsters 2 game for Playstation 2. They short-printed Newt, though, and
that's another thing that made everyone want to get one. Newt is still highly
sought after in the Japanese game, but more for collections and not decks, as
you'll rarely see a Newt in a deck nowadays.
Anyways, as I said, yes, Newt's Effects can be great if used in the right
situations, but Newt's still slightly overrated. Quite the powerhouse of a
Monster, but most will want to get the ATK boost, so they'll just set Newt face
down hoping to get it, but Newt will only be destroyed before you'll have a
chance to flip it most of the time. In most situations, unless it's either late
or early in the game, it'd be better to, if you were to draw a Newt, to just put
it into ATK mode like any Gemini Elf or something would be. It'd be harder to
get by than if you were to put it into DEF mode, but sometimes you can psyche
your opponent out by putting Newt in DEF mode, then flipping it on your next
turn. They'll be expecting one of the Jars or something when in fact they'll be
facing a huge 2400 ATK Level 4 powerhouse of a Monster.
Yes, Newt's a good card, but don't overrate it. It's good; Leave it at that. And
that's about all I have to say about Newt/Slate Warrior. I’d rate it an
all-around 7 / 10.
Moving on, we come to the Demon Beasts Gaazetto.
Composite Beast Gaazetto
Dark/Demon - Level 7 - ?/0
Effect: This Monster's ATK strength becomes equal to the total of the base
attack
strengths of the Monsters sacrificed to Summon it combined.
*Released as a Common in the Japanese 304 set. Coming in English after
Magician’s Force.*
This Monster may look like a complete powerhouse of a Monster at first sight,
but it really can't compare to its counterpart which I will be taking a look at
after this.
The Effect is simple.. Sacrifice 2 Monsters, and Composite Beast's ATK becomes
the total of both Monsters' base ATK strengths. Sacrifice 2 Goblin Attack Forces
and its ATK will be 4600, for example. A Gemini Elf and a Spirit Reaper, it'll
be 2200, etc. It has the capability of being a powerhouse of a Monster that'll
be hard to get by, but usually the 2 Sacrifices just won't be too worth it.
Imagine Sacrificing 2 Zolga for it, though..(ZOLGA
Earth/Angel, Level 4 - 1700/1200
If this card is sacrificed in a Sacrifice Summon, you gain 2000
Life Points.
*From the Japanese 305 set*)
That would be a 3400 ATK Monster you'd have on the Field after gaining 4000 LP.
Obviously you can not revive this Monster unless you want to Revive a Monster
with stats of 0/0. The only way that would be good is if it's the only thing in
your Grave and you want to Revive it for the simple reason of Sacrificing it for
another High-Level Monster.
The card is fun to use once in a while, but not really that effective at all.
I give the Composite Beast Gaazetto a 4.5/10. If you can't Summon this
guy without Sacrificing at least 1 Zolga for it, I don't see it as too useful at
all. Its Gaazetto counterpart, though, is another story.
Onto the Great Demon..
Great Demon Gaazetto
Dark/Demon - Level 6 - 0/0
This card's attack strength is double the base attack strength of
the Monster sacrificed to summon this card in a Sacrifice Summon.
*Released in the Japanese 305 set as a Common. My prediction, when it’s
released in English in the set after Magician’s Force, is that this Monster will
be Super rare. (Is a Rare)*
Now, this card is Effective. I include it in a few decks of my own, and it is an
extremely fun card to play, and it can be extremely Effective, not to mention
one of the most powerful Monsters you‘ll ever see, even without any Equips. With
the 2 GAF's you would have to Sacrifice for the Composite Beast to bring it
4600, you would only need 1 of them to bring the Great Demon to 4600 ATK. This
card is also great with Zolga. It'd have 3400 ATK and you'd gain 2000 LP. An
obvious thing that's always fun to do is to Change of Heart/Snatch Steal an
opponent's Monster just to Tribute it for Gaazetto, gaining and doubling that
Monster's ATK strength for what is likely to be a direct attack, depending on
whether or not your opponent has any more Monsters out.
If you want a great Monster for Beatdown or a Fiend deck, Gaazetto would be a
wise choice. Its power can be simply outrageous, and it's not that hard at all
to make it so. The only real big downside is the Revival situation that I
explained earlier.
A nice thing to do with Gaazetto is after Sacrificing and attacking with it,
most likely causing some huge damage, is to simply set a Ring of Destruction. If
you were to activate it on your Gaazetto, you'll have a good chance of winning
the duel right then and there, and if not making it extremely close to the
defeat of your opponent. But that D-Ring could also hurt you just as much, if
not worse than your opponent in some situations if you were to choose to
activate it on your Gaazetto.
Even with the measly Sacrifice (In terms of ATK) of something such as a Killer
(Mystic) Tomato or Don Zaruug (Zaloog), Gaazetto would be even more powerful
than a Summoned Skull, at 2800 ATK. Even if you Tribute something with only 1300
ATK it'd be more powerful than the Skull. Now that's power if I ever saw it.
It's not likely in a Beatdown deck that there'd be too many Monsters under
1800-1900 ATK or more anyway, so it would be exceptionally powerful in a
Beatdown deck.
An extremely powerful and evil combo with Gaazetto that can be pulled off is the
following.
Special Summon the Chaos Soldier-Messenger of Creation by its requirements. Use
its effect to remove an opponent's Monster from the game, then Sacrifice it for
your Gaazetto. You'd most likely have the opponent clear for a 6000 direct
attack by your Gaazetto, unless of course they have another/more Monsters. But
6000 ATK would be able to get around any Defense (Monster-wise) that your
opponent might have. Equip it with Fairy Meteor Crush or Big Bang Shot ..Ouch.
(BBS Coming in Magician‘s Force. FMC-like Effect, but gives the Monster a 400
ATK boost with a downside of your Monster having the chance of being removed
from the game)
I give the Great Demon Gaazetto an 8 / 10. I myself have Summoned
Gaazetto at 6600 ATK on multiple occasions, after Sacrificing a Masked Beast
Death Guardius in my Malik deck for my Gaazetto, which I use in my Malik Deck in
place of the Ra that I am unable to use.
For the last Fiend of this article, we have the Genocide King Demon, which was released in Japanese as an Ultra/Parallel/Ultimate rare in the 305 set, meaning it’ll arrive in English in the set after Magician’s Force.
Genocide King Demon
Dark/Demon - Level 4 - 2000/1500
Effect: If you don't have any Monster cards on the Field with Demon in their
names, you can't Normal Summon or Reverse Summon this Monster. This card's owner
pays 800 Life Points during his or her Standby Phase while this card is face-up
on the Field. If this card is targeted with any card effect controlled by your
opponent, roll 1 six-sided die. If the roll is a 2 or 5, that effect is negated.
The effects of any Effect Monsters destroyed by this one as a result of Battle
are also negated.
This Demon is just brutal. Simply an amazing Monster. Its 800 LP cost is really hardly anything for a Monster so powerful. 2000 ATK. Searchable by the Witch.
Btw, the 800 LP cost is mandatory. You MUST pay it, no matter what.
Its only real drawback besides the LP cost, is that it can not be Normal or Flip
Summoned. For this reason, people run Marauding Captain in a deck with Genocide
King Demon to Special Summon it, so they aren't forced to simply discard +
revive. But the "no Normal or Reverse Summon" thing can't stop you from setting
GKD face down if you're in a tight situation, of course.
When you get this Monster on the Field, your opponent's going to be in for some
big trouble. GKD's a Level 4 powerhouse of a Monster, with a built-in Ha
Des-like Effect, and a 1/3 chance of negating Effects that target GKD. Now
that's power.
800 LP cost? Ok, no big deal. Won't be paying that cost for more than 2-3 turns
anyway. Make good use of GKD while he's out on the Field while you can. It can
do some big damage to your opponent. Negating Flip Effects, doing big LP damage,
etc. I give the Genocide King Demon a 7.6 / 10.
Also, a card that helps with GKD and some other Demons that will be released in
the same set, is the Field Magic card, Lair of the 10,000 Demon Lords. Its
Effect, from Edo's Page, is:
Life Payments during the Standby Phase for Monsters with [Demon]
in their names don't have to be paid. If a Monster card with
[Demon] in its name is destroyed other than as a result of Battle
and goes to the Cemetery, you can choose 1 Monster card with
[Demon] in its name with a level less than that card from your
deck and put it into your hand.
Quite good with certain Demons, but it may be hard to protect.
That’ll do it for my fourth article. As always, I hope it was enjoyable.
