The tournament started at
approximately 1:30 P.M. There were 14 participants for this event, a new
record for most number of people for a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament. I was known to them
as an "Undefeated, Master Duelist," yet I only knew personally a hand full of
who chanted this. My presence intimidated all but one named, Josh-he under
estimated me. Each match was crunched to a 30-minute time limit.
Most players finished well before then.
The draws for each player were
pulled; my first opponent was anther with the same name as I, Phillip. I
quickly modified my deck with my newly acquired cards I need. It began; by
the third or fourth turn, I had pulled off summoning 2 of my 3 Summoned Skulls
and finished him off by turn 5. Battle 2 was more favored for my opponent,
my opening hand was perfect, but I was robbed of it by Card Destruction first
turn. I was in need of power monsters I didn't draw this time around; I
did however receive my defense of Man-Eater Bugs and Hane-Hane. Each
monster he summoned, I countered with either Man-Eater Bugs or an occasional
Hane-Hane. Now his hand became low and mine held. Finally I reached
my Monster Reborn, and summoned Barrel Dragon that was discarded from Card
Destruction. I used Tribute to the Doomed to kill his last defense monster
and took the victory. My record was 2-0.
The next match was with
Josh, the same Josh who was so confident in defeating me. It didn't help
me feel mercy full to him. By mid first match, I was clearly the
dominator; he played an unexpected Dark Hole. My hand was dry of monsters
and his magic/trap field was full, I was expecting the worst, but it never came
in force. Three solid turns passed before either of us could draw a
creature, he was the first to lay a card in defense. I then played Soul
Exchange to summon the Summoned Skull. He tried to turn it on me with
Change of Heart, but I counter that move by activating my trap, Waboku. I
then played Heavy Storm to stop all his 5 magic/traps on the field. The
next game was easy once I broke his spirit and pummeled him with my normal array
of La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamps, The Bistro Butchers, Neo the Magic
Swordsman, and Summoned Skulls. Score is now 4-0.
The third match
that ended the qualifiers was with John; he was very hyper for someone who
played cards. His defeats in both matches against him were just beat downs
with upgrades with Swords of Deep-Seated and I didn't need to pull off combos
that I planed to; my score was now 6-0. He said he would make the final
four, I didn't think of it too much, but he did.
The finalists were now
in; they were Phillip Mudd, Daniel Webb, and John and Paul Scholer. The
set was Daniel vs John and Phillip vs Paul.
The younger of the two
brother's was deprived of all his monsters when I Trap Holed his beginning
monsters and summoned enough monsters to tribute for a Barrel Dragon and destroy
his remaining defenders each of my turns with my luck of flipping a coin.
The next game proved fatal for him also when I simply overpowered him.
Score 8-0.
The final match was a surprise, Daniel was defeated by John
and I needed to face him again. This game, I replayed my first game I had
with his brother with me playing Trap Hole on the cards that would destroy mine,
and overwhelmed him as I held his potential back. The next duel was a bit
more complicated. The game was on for a battle on who would control my
Barrel Dragon. First I Tribute Summoned for my machine, John countered by
playing his own Trap Hole. During his next turn he played Monster Reborn
for the Barrel Dragon and failed the coin flipping ability. His attack
proved fatal when he then attacked my Man-Eater Bug. Killing the threat, I
played Card Destruction and drew my own Monster Reborn and summoned Barrel
Dragon once again. His life points were now low in this battle and it was
now his turn after my attack, he played Change of Heart and took control of my
solitaire dragon once again and attacked, I counter the damage by playing Waboku
and took no damage. The next turn I attacked and took out his life
points. I won the Tournament 10-0 with a flawless record.
