T'was the day of the tourney
And I was stoked
Robbie and I
Were going for broke
We passed a car wash
On the way there
With several hot girls
In their swimwear
We paid our five dollars
And waited around
Till finally the pairings were called
Okay I lost the rhyme but you gotta admit I had a pretty good one going.
Anyway, I traded a bunch of cards for an Airknight while Robbie bought a Call of
the Haunted and a Graceful Charity. He also bought a Spear Dragon, but that
might have been after the tourney. I don't remember. Anyway, Hopalong Bill (the
store's owner/manager) is going to impose an estimated restriction list for PGD
until the real one comes out. This is what his list looks like. It is ONLY PGD
cards. He already knows about Graceful being restricted to one.
1 Per Deck
Don Zaloog
Helpoemer
Ring of Destruction
Guardian Sphinx
Sasuke Samurai
2 Per Deck
Dice Jar
Newdoria
Dark Jeroid
Spirit Reaper (?)
I don't remember if the Spirit Reaper was on there. Anyway, compare it with
what I think will be the restriction list when they make it.
1 Per Deck
Ring of Destruction
Reckless Greed
Mirage of Nightmare
2 Per Deck
Guardian Sphinx
Sasuke Samurai
E-mail me and tell me who you agree with. Please note that the only
opinionated pick on my list is Sasuke. The others are based on info I have been
given from JPN players. Also, to those of you who read my last tourney report,
PGD not being legal was actually a decision made by Hopalong Bill himself.
He won't let anyone use it until next week, when the unlimited packs come
out. Anyway, enough of this nonsense. On with the tourney.
Round 1
Me vs. Patrick
Duel 1
This kid was my partner for the double duel tourney a while back. He had a
really annoying deck. The early going was easy enough. He went first and
summoned Overdrive. I summoned a Gemini Elf and took him out. Then he summoned a
Koumori Dragon with United and Black Pendant and attacked me. I was in trouble.
He later equipped his Koumori with a Fairy Meteor Crush. After a couple of turns
of holding him at bay, I finally drew Heavy Storm. So what if I lost 500 LP? I
ended up bringing him down to 1800 in that same turn and the rest is creamed
cheese.
Me 8000>7100>4300>4200>2700>2200>1700
Patrick 8000>7700>1800>1500>1100>0
Duel 2
This time, he just had Koumori with United and Pendant. No FMC. Not only
that, but I got rid of it faster. After that, I attacked him directly with
Gemini, then 2 Geminis the next turn, then Crossout his f/d monster, game.
Me 8000>7000
Patrick 8000>6100>2300>0
Updates
Robbie won, Cody and Nick won, and Garrett wasn't event there.
Round 2
Me vs. Brandon (or was it Edgar?)
Duel 1
I don't remember this dude's name because I put him down as "?" in my
notebook. Anyway, I somwhow gained 900 LP in the early going and I kept wittling
down his LP. Then he hit me for 5200 and it was gloves off. Unfortunately, I
wasn't drawing anything. All I could do was hang on for dear life. Luckily, I
Fiber Jarred twice. I eventually pulled something that helped me win:
Yata.
Me 8000>9900>9100>3900>3200
?
8000>7700>5800>4800>4300>3600>1500<2500>2300>1800>0
Duel 2
This duel was closer and faster. In short, I set up a Yata-lock early with
an Opticlops that I Reborned from his grave on the field for support. However,
he still managed to inflict a ton of damage along the way.
Me 8000>5700>3200>1300>600
? 8000>6000>4000>3900>2000>0
Updates
Robbie won and had to face Cody. Nick also won and ended up losing in
round 4.
Round 3
Me vs. Mark
Duel 1
Well, all good things must come to and end. He hit me hard and fast, and I
hit him a few times too. Unfortunately, he came out on top. I don't remember
much about these 2 duels.
Duel 2
Aside from using Cylinder on his Gemini w/ United, I inflicted very little
damage on him. By the way, he did the life totals.
Aftermath
Robbie also lost in the third round. If he and I had both won our matches,
we would have played each other in round 4. Anyway, Nick lost to Mitch somewhere
down the line. I didn't watch their match, but it would have been fun. An epic
showdown of cheaters. Mark had to play Cody in round 4 and Cody won. I think he
won the tourney, too. Hopalong Bill made me an honorary floor judge for the
juniors finals because Garrett, our normal floor judge, was not present. James
helped me judge, and through some clever sleuthing, he found that one of the
finalists (and Exodia/beatdown user) had 2 Witch and 2 Sangan. James DQ'd the
kid and I backed him up. Robbie and I did some free duels and after I got home,
I did a free match with Tyler. He used a deck of some of my cards because he
couldn't find his deck. I don't have the life totals and I don't remember much.
However, I do remember using RoD to get a draw in the first duel (even though I
could have won) and I also remember Yata-locking him once and winning the
overall match. On to props and slops!
Props
to Hopalong Bill for holding tourneys!
to Hopalong Bill again for selling and trading us all those good
cards.
to Robbie and I for getting to the third round.
to Pot of Weed for being the best card ever.
to Airknight Parshath for having really cool art.
Slops
to Upper Deck for not making a new restriction list right away.
to Cody and Mark for beating Robbie and I, respectively.
to myself for losing my pen.
Go ahead, e-mail me. Remember to tell me which restriction list you like.
Just don't bash. I'm warning you...
There once were a warrior who try to make his skill
ultimate. That warrior be me.
