This is now my 4th
tournament report, the link to my other three are as follows: 1) http://www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/KillerDecks/July2003/KDR-31/Balanced%20Beatdown%202%20-%20Martin%20-%20Game%20City%20-%20Windsor,%20Ontario.htm

. This is my 12th tourney to
date. I’ve made several modifications to my deck since my last report,
and after losing in the first round last week to the eventual 3 place kid, I
sought redemption. My deck remains a
beatdown deck, but a beatdown deck minus power-up cards which anyone that reads
my reports knows I’m against playing (although United we stand might be worth
it, and isn’t bad!). Not playing power
up cards makes me wonder if it’s a true beatdown deck or not). Anyways, allow me to move unto my deck,
which contains 41 cards (it’ll be 40 next time, as I’m a solid believer stats
or odds!)
Deck Size (41)
Monsters (17)
Yata-Garasu
(Yata Lock Bebe, can anyone say STAPLE)
Spirit Reaper (Eternal on-field shield, that has a Don Zaloog effect when
attacking!)
Sinister Serpent (Eternal Shield, just can’t be killed (almost). Fun to use
with Graceful Charity)
Fiber Jar (Reset Button!!)
Sangan (Gets Yata, Serpent, Fiber, Exiled, etc!!
If you don’t play it, then you have problems!)
Exiled Force (See ya Jinzo, Injection, Blue Eyes, whatever!)
Witch of the Black Forest (Gets almost anything, even JinzoJ, read Sangan above, possibly the most useful monster [seriously])
Bazoo the Soul Eater x2 (Pump, take out almost anything, although
pumping can hurt, as can Kycoo an Skull lair)
Spear Dragon (Nice Fairy Meteor Effect, 1900 is nice too! Potentially
game-breaking, but containing that one tragic flaw)
Gemini Elf (Secret Rare, Tough, few downsides, and these elves look pretty
sweet, jap elves look better)
Airknight Parshath (Fairy
Meteor effect, + draw a cardJ)
Zombyra the Dark (Highly underestimated card, can take out a
Gemini and other powerful monsters too, even tough 2000 def monsters)
Goblin Attack Force (Usually a great One hit wonder)
Jinzo (Gravity, Mirror, Torrential, Imperial
Whats?)
Dark Ruler Ha Des (No
effect for you, that means no fiber, witch, sangan, anything, oh, and
smacks up Jinzo)
Injection Fairy Lilly (Sometimes having to pay is
crippling, but she can totally dish out a massive amount of damage as well)
Magics (17)
Graceful Charity x2 (Great with Serpent, combo with Reborns!)
Pot of Greed (Pot of Awesomeness, is there a better magic card?)
Nobleman of Crossout (A Raigeki for face down Monsters that will make your
opponent regret having played it face-down)
Mystical Space
Typhoon (Takes out that Annoying card! It can
even smack up Imperial Order which is huge)
Heavy Storm (Sends everything to the Graveyard)
Harpies Feather Duster (Same as above, but not yours)
Raigeki (Best Monster Removal card in the
game….Period!)
Dark Hole (Hole
of Awesomeness)
Delinquent Duo (Great for setting up the Yata Lock)
Forceful Sentry (A STAPLE! Has a Huge Pegasus Millenium Eye effect, and
again, sets up Yata)
Monster Reborn (Most Popular Card out there, read second part of Sangan.)
Swords of Revealing Light (Great for Regrouping, and really taking
advantage of you opponent. Trunade is a
cool combo card here)
Change of Heart (Best used with Flip effects, then tribute. Or else, take
Jinzo, and Sacrifice for your own Jinzo)
Snatch Steal (I’ll take your Jinzo/Injection/Bazoo/Hades, don’t worry about the
1000lp cost)
Scapegoat (Impervious to Imp Order, Storm, Duster,
MST’s, and annoying as heck to your opponents)
Premature Burial (Monster Reborn of your own graveyard at a 10% lifepoint cost!)
Traps (7)
Torrential Tribute (Kill everything, cept when Jinzo’s out!)
Mirror Force (Bam, face ups go to the Shadow Realm)
Imperial Order (Staple, has few counters, and is one of the most feared trap cards
out there)
Ring of Destruction (Great Monster Removal, and
Deals Damage concurrently, Much better than Cylinder cause it can be chained
[IMO])
Call of the Haunted (Brings back Jinzo, Sangan,
Witch, and best used with Jinzo after a MST or harpies, or Heavy Storm)
Magic Drain (Hand Disruption, or Free Magic Jammer)
Solemn Judgement (Stops everything (even Summoning Jinzo), can be
devastating to the opponent, but can cost up to 4000lp)
Side Deck (15)
Mystical Space Typhoon x2 (Great vs Clown Control, Gravity bind
Decks)
Scapegoat (Impervious to Imp Order, Storm, Duster,
MST’s, and annoying as heck to your opponents)
Confiscation (Like Forceful sentry, but at a Cost! Well worthwhile
nonetheless!)
Card Destruction (Anti-Exodia, last turn!)
Book of Moon (Great for recycling an effect, or putting
a heavy hitter face down prepping it to be killed. It’s quick magic tooJ)
Nobleman of Crossout (A Raigeki for face down Monsters that will make your
opponent regret having played it face-down)
Light of Intervention Great vs Stall deck, exodia,
last turn, or any deck that relies heavily upon flip effects
Magic Cylinder (Nice one shot waboku effect that deals out
damage as well. It’s big downfall is it
can’t really be chained)
Ceasefire (can
be chained, stops flip effects, great vs last turn and flip effect decks!)
Sasuke Samurai (Guardian Sphinx’s worst nightmare!!)
Invader of the Throne (Can be huge, if play during a
swords or something)
Guardian Sphinx (Tough, annoying as heck, and Potentially game Breaking!)
Dream Clown (Forces the opposition to take him out or
else)
Gora Turtle (Basically, an anti-beadown card, but
I’ve never put him to the test!)
These
Tounament are held on Saturday afternoons at GameCity Ontario (great video
game, card shop!) This week, there were
only 14 participants, thus there were 2 byes, and six first round matchups. I wasn’t so lucky as to draw a bye, so I had
to play out the first round. Last week,
I got knocked out in the first round, so today, I was much more humble, and
vying for redemption (and I couldn’t venge my loss cause Patric wasn’t there
this week) As always, my buddy Marc was
there, so I’ll give my 2 cents on how he does as well. As for my deck, I took out Sasuke, Sphinx,
and Gemini for Zombyra, Ha Des, and a 2nd Bazoo. I took out a few magic cards too to add 2
traps, those being Magic Drain, and Solemn Judgement. It’s my first go with Judgement (ever), and I’ll let you judge at
the end of the report whether or not I liked it or it helped me out. Any comments or email, feel free to send to
send them, my email is posted throughout this report. Now, without further ado, let the battle report begin!
Round 1 (Oh! vs Peter)
Game 1 of 3
Peter’s a
very clever opponent, and a tough first round matchup. He plays a Messenger of Peace deck, with
Lilly, and has a very nice Serpentine Princess, fiber Jar/ Monster Recovery
combo’s. In the first duel, he
activates messenger of peace bind after a double hit on me via a change of
heart. Then he started playing face
down. I took em out via dark hole, and
witch. I then Heavy stormed his
Messenger of Peace. He played Monster
Recovery, and got out his Lilly. He
smacked up my Bazoo, and life was something like 3200 – 1600 for him. So I put a fiber jar, looking for the reset
button. He plays Sasuke, then attacks
with Lilly for the game. Final was 1200
– 0 for him
Game 2
of 3
In this game, I went first and was in total control. I played Gemini elf, and a pot of greed first turn, put down imp order. Next turn, he plays graceful, which I imperial, and puts a card in def mode, and a gravity bind. I play Heavy Storm, put down a magic drain, summon sangan, and attack his des Lacotas, and Sangan hits for 1000. Then I delinquent Duo. His turn, he plays Dark hole, which I drain, and he can’t pay, face down monster, ends turn. My turn, I get a graceful, I play swords, Sac My Sangan for Jinzo, and reborn is Des Lacotas. I attack and do damage. I also lay down solemn Judgement. His turn, he summons Lilly, which I solemn, and proceed to beat him my next turn. Judgement cost me 3500 lp to use, but helped win me the game. Final was 3500 – 0 for me
Game 3
of 3
He goes
first, and I’ll just fast forward a bit.
Maybe 4 turns in, he has 2 cards in hand, and I have 4. He plays Mirage of Nightmare. Eventually I Delinquent Duo, so he’s
discarding 4 cards at once. Life was
high too, 6900 for 6500 for me.
Eventually, with about 12 cards left in his deck, he flips a fiber jar,
which I just couldn’t hit cause of his shift card, I Judgement it again, lose a
ton of life, but have a bare field to attack with 2 monsters going into my
turn, then playing premature to bring back Jinzo, and bringing out a Huge
bazoo, and pumping for overkill. I
never ended up using my Imperial order after all. Final was 2650 – 0 for me (although I was in control, just
Judgement cost so much!)
My buddy
Marc, playing a beatdown with axes, mage power, united we stand, 3 ring of
destructions, and 3 barrel behind the doors (you see the combo) just kills his
first round opponent. His combo didn’t
come out though
Round
2 (Oh! vs. Jason)
Jason is great friends with my round 1 opponent, so they run very similar decks, minus the monster recovery. First game, I go first, and just dominate. I play serpent down, hoping he’d bite. He doesn’t, he put 3 cards down, and a monster down. I play Heavy storm, and he loses a mirror force, and 2 other cards, he couldn’t even chain them. Then I play Dark hole, and attack with Witch. He plays another face down, I change of heart it, put lilly down, and attack. He was almost gone, and I took him out next turn. No judgement this time. Score was 8000 –0 for me
Game 2
of 2:
He goes
first, and I start beating down his facedown cards with a nobleman, a Hades,
and Remove a few magics. Then He plays
a sangan face down. My next turn, I try
to attack, but he plays a card whereby I have to guess what’s in his hand for
my attack to go though, and if I’m wrong, my attacking monster comes back to my
hand. I guess wrong twice, and lose
both my hades, and Yata. Then he draws,
flips sangan, and attacks for 1k. My
turn, I draw, get graceful, and I get a Delinquent duo, and a monster
reborn. So I lay down yata, reborn
Bazoo, and play delinquent duo, thereby removing the 2 cards from his hand, and
negating his continuous trap. I attack
with Bazoo, and Yata. He Gets his
Sangan effect, which I would exiled force next turn. On his final turn, he summons the only card in his hand, and I
judgement it for game via yata lock, and series, as I would take him out next
turn. Final was 4000 – 0 for me.
As for my
buddy, he played big Mike, Mike being the guy who’s come 2nd the
past 2 weeks. He beat him 2-0, and did
a 6000 Ring/Barrel behind the door combo.
Nice to watch, and Mike was a good Sport! That, set up the big Semi Final Match which was:
Round 3
(Semi Finals) (Oh! vs Marc)
That’s
right, clash of the titans. Marcs my
buddy playing the wreckless power, read above!
First game, he goes first, and just gets the drawpower. Pot of greed, graceful charity, and play
witch in attack mode. I take out his
witch, and he gets the effect. Then he
plays Gemini elf with an ax, and takes out my monster. Next turn, he gets a sangan out there, and
recycles his witch via call of the haunted, heavy storm combo. Despite his draw power, I hung in
there. Eventually, he got a change of
heart, and beat me for game. Final was
3150 – 0 for him
Game 2
of 3:
I go
first, draw a great hand. I play Pot of
greed and Graceful, with serpent in hand.
Then I delinquent duo, play elf, and end my turn. He plays Change of heart, puts his own elf
out there, with united we stand, and hits me for 5400, bringing me down to 1600
life cause of my first turn delinquent duo.
He’s down to 2 cards, and I have 5, 4 monsters, and 1 dark hole in hand. I draw Snatch Steal, Take his elf with the
United, bring out Bazoo and Pump him, and hit him for 4300 with his own elf,
and 4400 with my monsters for an 8700 hit, and game!
Game 3 of 3:
This time, we both got a bit of draw power, he plays
pot of greed, and Sangan to start. I play
Zombyra and take out Sangan. He kills
Zombyra with Injection. My next turn, I
Dark Hole his Injection, and attack with A pumped bazoo. He axes another
Gemini elf, and I play Mirror Force.
He’s down to 3500. I play mst
next turn on one of his face down, which is barrel behind the door (useless
card on it’s own. Another attack by me, direct damage, and he’s low on
life. I have a Magic drain down, and
Judgement. He plays Monster Reborn,
which I drain, and he brings out a bazoo which I judgement for game. Final was 3250 – 0 for meJ
Round 4 (Finals)
Me vs Dustin
Dustin
Just beat the store owner who is running a fiend deck, and plays Marc for 3rd. Dustin has never made it this far, and
unless he’s made major modifications to his deck, I was very confident
(probably over-confident) Anyways, he
runs a few flip effects, beatdown, Yata, and a few clowns. Rock scissor, paper, I go first. I do a forceful sentry, and he has 5 pretty
crappy cards, so I get rid of his Magician of Faith, and summon Zombyra. He snatch Steals my Zombyra (card he drew),
and attacks with harpies brother. I
play swords (as I know he can’t stop it), and witch face down. Next turn, I gain 1000, he lays up, and end
his turn. I sac Witch for Hades, and
take out his face down witch (ouch). I
gain another 1000. He lays face down
again, and ends his turn. I play change
of heart, take back zombyra, summon injection, and attack. His turn, I block a dark hole with Imperial
Order, and he lays face down again.
Possibly his last monsters, and he only had 2 cards left in his
hand. I bring out Witch and attack with
all my creatures for the game: Final
was 10200 – 0 for me.
Game 2
of 2:
Again,
good draw for me. I take out a few of
his monsters for minimal damage, such as a zombyra vs Gemini elf, and one more
hit. Then he plays change of heart on
Zombyra, and sacked him for jinzo, and attacks. I play feather duster (perfect
timing, cause Jinzo’s out there, and it’s impossible to block (nearly), then I
play bazoo. Next turn, monster face
down, and ends his turn. I sac Bazoo
for Airknight, attack, only to get skull laired, and end my turn. He flips and attacks with Sangan, and I lay
solemn Judgement down. On my turn I
premature Witch, sac her for Jinzo, and attack his witch, and get her
effect. From there, he had
nothing, 1 card in hand to my 3 or 4,
and I beat him down no problem, and I had Judgement down, Scapegoat down, and a
2nd bazoo in my hand in the event I’d have to deal with a snatch
steal. Final was 6200 – 0 for me
Thus, I
have achieved redemption through victory, and in doing so, further established
myself as a solid duelist, and making my opponents rue having to play me (I
sound like Kaiba now). My Buddy beat
the Fiend deck 2-0 and got 3rd overall, and I obviously got first,
going 8 – 2 today. Judgement was huge
for me today, and even though it cost me around 10000 life points in all, Ir
was a huge factor in my victories, as was my magic drain (but I’ll only ever
run 1 of each of these cards). Yata won
me 1 of 10 games, so 10% ratio. I’m
finding that Pharaonic Guardian, although possessing some solid cards, don’t
have cards that really suit my deck as opposed to LOD cards (Am I the only one
who thinks such???) . It’s great for burner decks, side decks, and
zombie decks, but it doesn’t help me out that much. And I still haven’t seen Lava Golem played, unlike the LOD secret
rares which are played religiously.
Again, I’ve been getting some replies, and I thank those of you for
doing so, keep em coming, and I’ll do my best to reply. Suggestions, comments, hate mail (I’d prefer
no hate mail), but it’s all good, feel free to send them. GL to everyone, and
enjoy Dueling!
Props:
Winning,
and along with that….. Redemption
