The duels consisted of 6 rounds of 2/3 matches,
began at 1:00pm and ended around 6. It was my first time in the shop and
all, so I registered as a duelist, paid the entrance fee and walked around
talking to people I never met before. I played a few casual duels before
the tourney started, unknowingly one of the guys I played was last week's
winner. he had a Yata-lock deck and finished me fairly quickly which
wasn't exactly a confidence-boost. After some trading and more mingling
the tournament began.
Match 1, Round 1: Obelisk(Me) vs. Slightly Chubby Nervous Kid with F-I-N-A-L stall
deck
I got out a couple heavy hitters like Gearfried and
Spear Dragon but he constanty set monsters like Momonga and Troop Dragon, so he
was gaining life points more than losing them. At one point he had over
14,000 lifepoints from Momonga and Dian Keto. Then he took a risk by
special summoning his third Troop Dragon in attack mode to destroy my helpless
defensive Spear Dragon. I played premature on Spear and then put out
Marauding Captain, then special summoned Dai Grepher, played A. Forces and beat
him down in a couple turns. he never even hit me really.
Round 1: Me - 8000, Him -
0
Match 1, Round 2: Obelisk(Me) vs. Slightly Chubby Nervous Kid with F-I-N-A-L stall
deck
This time the kid was really nervous, I couldn't
figure out why but he kept biting his fingernails and staring at me. I got
out Freed early and searched for my Captain, played it then special summoned the
second from my hand and it was basically over, the only damage he did was with a
Giant Germ I used Freed's effect a second time to bring out Exiled Force
and obliterate his Germ. See ya later kid, on to the next
round.
Round 2: Me - 7500, Him -
0
Match 2, Round 1: Obelisk vs.
Older kid, about 19 or 20 with long brown hair using a beatdown
All I can say about this match is that I hate
straight beatdowns. You know the kind. 3 GAF, 3 Geminis, Spears,
maybe even some chasers. he pummeled my poor dragons into submission after
a couple successful attacks on my part, before I could get anything going, then
summoned Jinzo for the coupe de grace.
Round 1: Me - 0, Him -
4400
Match 2, Round 2: Obelisk vs.
Older kid, about 19 or 20 with long brown hair using a beatdown
Same thing as last game only worse. I was
getting desperate near the end, he had out two chasers and some gobbies and
I had nothing so I summoned Time Wizard and tried my best, but I lost the
flip and the match went with it(I am very soon going to take out Time Wizard for
a Fiber Jar or Don Zaloog).
Round 1: Me - 0, him -
6500
Well I guess
I learned my lesson about tourneys, hand destruction and negation are key and I
need more of it. That's why I'll be adding some good cards like DD and
Sentry. Next tourney I go to will be at Imagination, unlimited in Pontiac,
Michigan in a couple weeks so until then, good bye and happy
dueling!!
