About the tournament:
Entrance Fee: $5
First place: 6 packs
Second Place: 2 packs
1 pack for anyone who plays.
There are usually 2 tournaments each Saturday here, a 1:30 and a 3:30. This report is for the 1:30. I made it to the semi finals in the 3:30 with the same deck.
On to the Show:
Round 1: Dave vs. Jordan
Duel 1:
Jordan is one of the players who loves the game, but doesn’t have the money to afford all the best cards. I felt a little sorry for him when he saw my Gemini Elves.
Me: 8000-6200
Him: 8000-6100-4800-000
Duel 2:
Not much different, spear dragons ran over some scapegoats.
Round 2: Dave vs. Josh
I talk to Josh fairly often, nice guy, good deck. He runs a similar deck to mine.
Duel 1:
It was pretty much trade for trade on this one. He had me down to 1100 while he was at 6100. I managed to get the upper ahnd again with a Raigeki and Jinzo to pull out the win.
Duel 2:
Similar to dual one though this time injection fairly lily made the difference this time killing his jinzo and clearing the path for other monsters like my goblins.
Round 3: Dave vs. Rich
Rich usually wins the tournaments here, a good solid beatdown deck is what he has and he thinks his moves very carefully.
Dual 1:
He got a lousy draw and I got a good one, second turn I attacked with a GAF and a fully pumped up Bazoo.
Dual 2:
This was similar to the first, I just got the reborning cards and steamrolled him.
Round 4 (Semi-Finals): Dave vs. Jimmy
Jimmy is another top duelist in the store, he has won a couple tournaments and has a solid beatdown deck.
Dual one:
Close, I was at 2000 when I finally overpowered his monsters
Dual 2:
Lily made the difference here with a direct attack early on to put him on the defensive early.
Round 5(Finals)
Dave vs Big Alan.
Alan usually runs a beatdown deck like the rest of us. Today he had a yata deck. Time seals, drop off and spirit reapers is what I remember. I thought it was pleasant change to see a new deck. We split the prize.
Dual 1:
Spear dragons just kept hurting him through his spirit reapers. I just wore him down.
Dual 2:
He yata-locked me then just beat me down.
Dual 3:
Spear dragons once again make the difference. Glad I run 3!
Next week I’m going to try my warrior/clown control deck in one of the tournaments for a change. Feel free to email tips for that.
Now for the props:
Winning the tournament
Ring of Destruction
Slops:
People who steal cards.
Pulling crap in my packs.
