How it all went down:

I walked into Neo Quest at like 12:15.  The tournament was supposed to start

around 1:00 PM.  I surveyed the scene.  I really didn’t think I was going to win.

My friend Phil and I registered, it cost 5 bucks and you get a booster pack when you

hand in you money.  Right away, Phil opens his pack and goes, “OMG!!!!” As luck

would have it, he pulled a Yata-Garasu.  I open my pack and of course, I get an

awesome rare………..Lesser Fiend.  On to tournament play.

Round 1:  Dave Kratz vs. Mr. Spear Dragon (stalling beatdown)

I called this kid Mr. Spear Dragon, because he has pulled 4 out of boosters since

the release of LOD.

During round this I thought I had a tough opponent.

Game 1:  It started off the standard way.  Mr. SD laid down 4 M/T and 1 monster and ended his turn.  I picked up HFD and played it.  He activated Magic Drain, and I discarded United We Stand right away.  I played GAF and attacked.  His turn.  He puts his 1 M/T down and ends one monster face down.  I picked up Nobleman of Crossout and took his Giant Soldier out of the game.  I picked up a card and played my Yata-Garasu and, BAM!! BAM!!! BAM!!!! and so on and so fourth. Game over! Yata-Locked. 1-0 (me)

Game 2: Started out differently.  We went back and forth playing monsters and M/T’s and ending turns.  After 10 or so turns he starts with his revival jam/ solemn wishes combo.  I keep knocking out the revival jam and he keeps bringing it back.  Finally I get a magic combo.  I play heavy storm, snatch steal revival jam,  move my GAF into attack mode, use call of the haunted on spear dragon, and use a United we Stand.  Bye bye.  2-0 (me)

Round 2: Dave Kratz vs. BB ( wimpy beatdown)(  I call him BB because that is all I remember of his name.) I was dueling right next to him in the first round, and the kid he was against kept having to tell him to stop talking to himself.  Whatever.

Game 1: This game was all me.  It went by fast as I pretty much just beat him into the ground.  I finished with Magic Cylinder. 1-0 Me

Game 2: I’m kinda sorry about it, but I really owned this kid.  He put up a fight, but between axe-ing my Injection Fairy Lily and Seven Tools-ing his Imperial Order, he just couldn’t beat me.  I do give him credit however, he tried. 2-0 Me

Round 2 wrap-up:  Phil lost in this round.  He played a kid who got all the right cards at the right time.  Oh well.  5 bucks for a Yata ain’t too shabby.

Round 3:  Dave Kratz vs. the kid who beat Phil (beatdown)

Game 1:  The competition was tough.  We were going back and forth until he brought out his jinzo.  I think that he thought he had won, until I brought out my Injection Fairy Lily, and an axe of despair and a mage power (5 m/T’s on the field).  I slapped him with a neat and tidy 4500 damage at a cost of 2000 for me.  Game won. 1-0 me

Game 2:  I really don’t know what happened.  To quote Phil, “he just got everything he needed exactly when he needed it.”  Yea, 8000 LP can go quickly, and before I knew it, I was dead.  1-1 tied

Game 3: My deck showed its true colors in this game.  I got out Ha Des and protected him.  Then followed my Yata and I just had him in the YATA LOCK!! Game, Set and Match.  2-1 me

Round 4:  Me vs. Jason (beatdown)

Game 1: This was by far the closest duel I had all day.  It ended when I made a dumb move.  He destroyed my Witch of the Black Forest.  I got out my Injection Fairy Lily.  The previous turn I had lost 1100 from his witch attacking directly, and I had forgotten to take the LP off my calculator.  When I brought out my IFL, he asked me if I’d subtracted the LP, and I stared in disbelief.  I sat there and ended my turn and watched as he pummeled my IFL with its measly 400 attack. L 0-1 Jason

Game 2: This was a great duel.  It went back and forth.  I can’t remember anything specific about game except for the end.  After I won, I celebrated my trip to round 5, the finals.  Everyone looked confused.  Phil reminded me that I had only won one game.  I was embarrassed.  Oh, well.  It happens. 1-1 tied

Game 3:  This went pretty much the same way as before, except for one thing.  Jason played his only card in his hand, a monster in attack mode.  I activated Torrential Tribute.  That left him with no cards in his hand or on the field and me with none at either place as well.  He had 2500 life points, and I had close to the same amount.  I picked up monster reborn and got back my Bazoo.  I pumped it up and finished the game.  Ok, now I think I was finally in the finals.

Other Semi-final game:  The other semi-final game took place between a kid with a somewhat stall deck and a kid I knew.  Ironically I knew the kid from the last tournament I had been to.  He killed me in the first round. Since then I had gotten another Gemini and my 3 GAF’s.  I commented to Phil, “I wanna play that kid (pointing to the one I knew).”  “Why?” He aksed.  “He destroyed you last time.”  I told him, “Today is different.  I’m gonna hand him his but today.”  As luck would have it, he won and I got my chance.

Round 5 The Championship:  Me vs. the kid I knew (beatdown)

Game 1:  He fought hard in the first one, but non-effect 1800 monsters. Have a hard time against Gemini Elf and Goblins.  The first game ended in my favorite style, the Yata-Lock. 1-0 Me

Game 2:  This game followed suit, but he got out a Dark Necrofear.  I didn’t want to destroy in, as it would take my monster so I waited, and cleared the field with a heavy storm and dark hole.  I brought back my Injection Fairy Lily with monster reborn put an axe of despair and attacked for 4400.  I was down to 1000 and he had 1300. I put down my Magic cylinder and ended my turn.  He picked up a Kycoo, played it with his own axe, and attacked.  I activated Magic Cylinder, and I was the champion. 2-0 ME

So, I won the tournament, got 4 more free boosters, and pulled four rares that were all pieces of crap.  Phil got eliminated in the second round, but got a yata-garasu. Life isn’t fair.

Now time for props and slops:

PROPS:

Me- for winning the tournament and getting some good deals.

Phil-for pulling a Yata out of his only pack.

The kid who traded sold me an axe of despair and a snatch steal for 10 bucks- for

selling me an axe and a snatch steal for 10 bucks

The kid who traded me my third Gemini-for re-uniting the triplets.

To everyone who didn’t cheat and had fun-for playing Yu-Gi-Oh the way it was

                        meant to be.

SLOPS:

Jason- for making me look like an idiot. (see round 4 for details)

My other friend, Dan- for not coming.

E-Bay- for giving me the deals I need on the singles I want.

People who spend 5 times as much money as me, and still lose- for, umm, losing.

And to all of you who don’t have a Jinzo:  Jinzo can still be beaten by a monster with power-ups, magics and monsters in general.  And you don’t need a Jinzo to win.  I don’t a have one.

And to all you math people out there: What are the chances that I never get my delinquent duo? (I didn’t get it at anytime during the whole tournament.)  I did it, just for kicks, it’s 1:4096 that I won’t draw a given card in 12 duels, assuming that I go through half my deck in each duel.

C ya,

E-mail me with any suggestions, or if you need advice.
