This
Sunday wasn't very different from any other at the start, but there were some
suprising changes. Brian (Silent Bob) wasn't there. A few people
from the League I run showed up. Finally…I had to face Jesse in Round
1. This was either a blessing or a curse. Whoever lost would only
get around 21 points for showing up today…the winner would just put them further
back in the standings for each round that they went on. Forget about
prizes for a second, this is THE most high-staked match I've ever played at
Jahinie Productions.
Round 1: Any Given Sunday vs. Jesse's Hyper
Beatdown
I get to go first. I lay Penguin Soldier in DEF, he goes,
plays a mon. I get rid of a M/T (MST?) and flip PS, he takes his mon back,
I play a Gem and an Axe, and an axe to Kycoo. Game 1 to
me.
8000-5750 (??) to his 8000-5450-0
Duel 2: This is where
the hand disruption came into play. Got Delinquent Duo and The Forceful
Sentry in opener. He played 2 M/Ts and a monster and passed. I
played DD, he was all happy about what I hit (even though I forget what it
was). He was left with 1 card…used The Forceful Sentry…bye bye
JINZO!!! After that, he was handless…and hopeless. Gem + Kycoo hit
an open field after a Crossout. He got rid of Kycoo next turn, but he Dark
Holed. Gem got Pre Burialed and an Axe, hit for 29. He Snatch Stole
and hit me back. He had nothing else…
8000-7000 (Delinquent) - 6200
(Pre) - 3300 (Gem Axe) to his 8000-4300 (Gem + Kycoo) - 1400 (Gem + Axe) -
0
This pretty much screws him over in standings. Now me and Cory
are the two top dogs when it comes to the store rank. Round 2 was just as
easy…even though he as a player was not.
Round 2: Any Given Sunday
vs. Eric (Beatdown)
Now this guy knew what he was doing. Too bad I was
a step ahead of them for everything. First round, Nobleman on a Man-Eater
Bug, Gem Elves, 1800's, 1900's, 2300s were flying all over the place. He
tried to Fissure, but IO took care of that. Goblin + Gemini took care of
the rest…
8000-6100 (Change of Heart on an Elf) vs. his 8000-6100 (Elf) -
1900 (GAF + Elf) - 0
Duel 2: He got me scared this game. He
hit me down to 550, but I got him in the end. Such a good Beatdown player,
just one step behind the entire thing.
8000-7000 (DD) - 1050 (????) - 550
(???) - 8000-4350-0
Round 3: Any Given Sunday vs. ????
These
duels were pretty easy…and hazy. I remember a GAF running over a 2200
Tribute monster, along with a Kycoo hitting for 1800…the only damage I took was
from my Delinquent. I kept Heavy Storming away Destiny Board and a Magic
Cylinder…
8000-7000 to his 8000-6100-2600-0
Duel 2: More of the
same, but he got more hits in. Harpie's Feather Duster hit the exact same
thing.
8000-7000 (DD) - 6200 (Pre Bur) - 4700 (????) to 8000-4500-2200-1900
(Sinister Serpent) -1400-0
It took forever for the other side of the
bracketing to finish up. I knew I would have to face Cory - that much was
a given. Too bad I took the worst notes ever. The only thing I can
remember are the LP totals and some things based from those LP totals.
Jinzo was everywhere…
Duel 1: 8000-7000 (Delinquent)-6200 (Pre
Burial) - 5400 (UWS vs. non UWS) - 4500 (???) - 1200 (Kycoo + something over a
Sinister???) to his 8000-7250 (Penguin) - 450 (Mad Reborn fit) - 2450 (two
Nimbles) - 1350 (Witch) - 250 (Witch) - 0
Duel 2: 8000-7000
(Delinquent) - 5700 (??) - 4900 (Pre Buri) - 1800 (Powered Jinzo) - 2800 (Snatch
Steal) to his 8000-5450 (Kycoo + Penguin) - 6450 (Nimble, but Dark Holed right
after) - 2150 (Kycoo + Gem) - 1950 (Jinzo + Axe vs. Jinzo + UWS) - 850 (Witch) -
250 (???) -- 0
I remember how the last one ended though: He Snatch
Stole my Witch to hit a F/D…played a F/D himself…MST'd the Snatch Steal
afterwards, got my mon back, got rid of his F/D with Crossout, and
won…
He told me he really wasn't trying - I might believe that. I
know we're SUPPOSED to be close to even now in the standings, if not a one point
difference. I played him in an exhibition match afterwards, and won
2-0.
We would have split the prize, but one extra TP3 pack wasn't worth
splitting…not that there was much there to split. Got one crappy rare, a
Patrol Robo. (AGAIN!) No Needle Worms from here yet…where ARE those
things???
P.S. If anyone knows whether or not you are allowed to
activate a Waboku in response to the activation of Jinzo, please let me
know.
