Me and my friend SpikedNinja (Dave Freiburger) began dueling each other July 2002, and we usually only duel each other.  As a result, my deck is mainly

built to duel him.  Not a problem really, since I've also customized it to be a Water/Healing deck, with many water-based monsters and a couple Umi/Tornado Wall combos, and also 2 each of Nimble Momonga, Dancing Fairy, and Cure Mermaid.  After much practice and deck customization, we decided it was about time for our first official tournament.  So please bear with me if this report seems incorrect in some way; I've never made one before ^_^"...

Side Deck:

Dark Magician (just in case), Appropriate, De-spell, Last Will, Final Destiny, Return of the Doomed, Infinite Cards, Nobleman of Extermination, Time Seal, Metal Detector, Eternal Rest, Chain Destruction, Labyrinth Wall, Soul Release, Magic Drain

I created this sidedeck in case I was supposed to play someone with an Exodia deck...Of course that never happened and I never used my sidedeck anyway…Live and learn, I suppose; only one guy there had an Exodia deck, or was just carrying the head for no reason…

The TP3 pack I got was full of useless cards: Dark Elf, a fusion called Karbonala Warrior, and another Dragon Capture Jar.  I substituted nothing.  Dave got the unlikely-usable White Hole, Spirit of the Harp, and was fortunate enough to get a Pot of Greed.  Before the Tournament actually started, Dave and I played two duels outside of the store in the mall hallway.  I forgot to record these duels, but I won the first one by attacking an open field with Dancing Fairy.  For the second duel, we used each others decks, and, fortunately, I lost ^_^. The point of such a duel was to find weaknesses in our own decks by facing them head on.

First Match – Kevin Miller vs. Jason D (Jinzo)

Duel 1

I cannot believe how fast he was able to beat me.  He used Pot of Greed, then Graceful Charity, and placed a facedown monster (Nimble Momonga?).  I placed Wall of Illusion facedown and Turtle Oath, Malevolent Nuzzler and Monster Reborn facedown.  He used Heavy Storm and Raigeki to completely clear my side of the field and then tributed for Jinzo and equipped with Mage Power and United we Stand.  I didn’t stand a chance, especially since my next card was a magic…

0 - 8000

Duel 2

This duel was not much different than the first the only difference were that I was able to use Change of Heart on his Jinzo the turn before he killed me…

0 - 1100

Dave was dueling beside me and lost only seconds after I did.  He informed me that he faced a kid with a Dragon deck.  This was the ultimate let-down; my deck is almost perfectly suited for killing dragons, and I didn’t get to duel him…

Afterwards, we dueled a couple of other kids for fun, and, of course beat them.  We dueled this 10-yr-olds 80card beatdown.  The only thing that kept the duel going for so long was his Gravity Bind.  My Mage Powered Hayabusa Knight dominated that for a while until he Trap Holed ‘im.  After that I used Monster Reborn to resurrect my Trap Master and destroyed his Gravity Bind, then tributed Trap Master for Amphibian Beast, and attacked with both.

6600 – 0.  Dave dueled him then.  I came back from the washroom in time to see him kill him with a Relinquished Summoned Skull.  I was told the final was 2400 – 0 for Dave.

I dueled another guy for a card. I put up my Bazoo for his Swords of Revealing Light, and he said he would beat me under a minute.  All I can remember is that this lasted a minute and a half.

Props:

-lasting 1.5 times the amount of time I was expected to last.

-not losing every time.

-my deck beating Dave’s a total of 6 times that day

Slops:

-losing in the first round is definitely a big one

-not dueling the dragon guy

-not getting any good cards

-losing Bazoo

Final Thoughts:

I cannot stress enough the wicked effectiveness of Quickplay magic Offerings to the Doomed.

Perhaps Bazoo was never meant for my deck.  I’ve never used it with any effectiveness…

I HATE Gravity Bind!!

Expect the worst thing that can possibly happen, and think realistically.

10 year olds have absolutely no guilt and are prone to cheating and stealing, but never prevail.

I’m gonna rethink having such cards as Share the Pain and Skull Lair in my deck.
