Long story short, I was
eliminated in the first round. Match score: Loss-Win-Loss My
opponent has a LON beatdown deck, complete with Bazoo the Soul Eater,
Gemini Elf, Kycoo, and Magic Cylinder. Strong flavor of CHEESE in his
deck. |

Turn 1: We
went blow for blow, took him down early to 6000 or so, but he battled
back by reviving the fatties I discarded to the graveyard with Graceful
Charity and Tribute to the Doomed. In each duel, he took control of the
field with my own Cosmo Queen against me. I feel betrayed. The rest of
this duel went on a down-swing after my early rush at his lifepoints.
The luck of the draw failed me, like it usually does. Turn
2: Another nail-biter, with each of our monsters swinging and
killing. But this duel was where I started to get pissed. Not because of
how the duel went, but because of my opponent’s dumb excuses for
‘rulings.’ Check this, he plays Imperial Order in a chain against my
Graceful Charity, and I chain the Order with my face-down Typhoon. Then
he gets in a hissy fit saying that MST can’t destroy Imperial Order. Are
you kidding me?! If it weren’t for the fact that I knew that I’d take
this duel in the next few turns, I would have gone on a long diatribe
about Chain rules and spell speeds. Needless to say, this guy had the
cards, but not an ounce of wisdom of the rules behind the game. Goes to
show that most beatdown decks are for the strategically-challenged. Not
to say that I am, because my beatdown deck is combo-licious. He even
tried to get his friend sitting next to me to back him up on ‘rulings,’
and I stubbornly tell him that what he says is wrong. Heck, I even asked
Edo about these rules days later and he backed me up on that. A turn
later, he summons Bazoo and pumps him up to 2500, but doesn’t attack.
Like I’d be dumb enough to run into a 2500 attack wall. My turn, I
Snatch Steal his baboon, Change his Gemini Elf’s Heart, and stomp
through for the win. Booyah, sucka. Turn3: Once again, our monster
clash heads, but this time he makes a break for my lifepoints, and in
two turns I’m at 4000. I think I’ll put Trap Holes back into my deck...I
use Graceful Charity once again, discarding Cosmo Queen and Summoned
Skull, play Kycoo in attack and powered up my La Jinn with the Mask of
Brutality, and rush him to even the score. Magic Cylinder. How cheap.
I’m down to 100 LP left. Game over. Again, this guy tried to pull some
kind of lame-brain ruling about magic cards, when he Reborns my Cosmo
Queen, and equips her with Mage Power. According to the ‘rules’ the
Monster Reborn he played that turn still counts toward the M/T slot it
used. Give me a break, thats pure crap. I let that slide, since I’ve
already lost, and didn’t want to argue with this chump. Bah.

After me and my buddy
Leo lost in our first rounds, we just lounged around, trying to get some
trades in. As usual, the collectors with the all the cards I’d need are
total arsemonkeys when it comes to trading. C’mon now, a 1st Edition Dark
Necrofear and two super rares for The Masked Beast. I’m giving him the
benefit of the trade, but no deal. What a jerk. Turns out the third
member of our team today, Brian, advanced past the first round, but lost
in his second match. At least he got farther than Leo and I, but he didn’t
get an Exodia deck first match, or a beatdown deck like my
opponent’s.
Cheers: -Leo for hooking me up with a second
Necrofear and Fire Princesses for my SoRL -Edo for answering my rules
questions -Cards & Comics for the tournament -For Brian getting
farther than me with a weaker deck -KForce1 duelists, for the amusing
tournament Reports and keeping this game fresh. Maybe we’ll come to your
area some day to duel. -POJO rocks the
poon. Jeers -John Hancock (my opponent): read the
rules before you try and tell me how they work. I guess you never played a
real TCG before Duel Monsters, huh. Magic: The Gathering ROCKS. -These
damned collectors that only want to trade for TP holos and Gemini Elves.
