I bought a
box of LOD and I pulled a lot of good dragons, so I decided that they were
calling me. After a lot of work and play testing I made what most people tell
me, “The best offensive dragon deck they have ever seen.” The first thing most
people say when they see my layout is, “don’t you have trouble handling all of
your tribute monsters?” Well, I use the Lord of D. + Flute combo to the best of
my ability in this manner and have not had trouble but 1 or 2 times since the
day I made this deck (about the same week that LOD came out). You will never
get yata locked for having tributes in this deck as long as you know when to
discard your tribute monsters and when not to. Normally, if I play a charity or
anything in which I must discard, I will get rid of my tribute monsters unless
I have most, if not the entire combo in my hand. Now for the tourney report:
I have never seen this kid before, but I got a couple quick glances at his deck when he was shuffling and I noticed that he or his parents have good money. But as anyone will tell you, money doesn’t buy skill. He runs a masked beast deck, with almost all of the good odds and ins you might not expect an 8 year-old to have, such as Magic Cylinder and Raigeki, etc.
Match 1--Note: All matches here are best 2/3, as most
places. So, I will only include highlights of good duels (with or without me as
the winner of the duel)
He goes first and has the ability to special summon his masked beast and unfortunately, he does it on the first turn and before I’ve had my go. The only thing on his side of the field is his beast. My turn: I have a very rare hand. It includes Snatch Steal, Lord of D., Flute, Spear Dragon, Pot of Greed, and Magic Cylinder. I play pot of greed and get Tyrant Dragon and Exiled Force. 1st turn win: I play snatch steal to take his masked beast, play lord of D., Flute, Special summon Tyrant and Spear. All attack for 9200 damage. I’m sure he will not summon masked beast on the first turn anymore. I won this round 2 and 0.
Round 2—Me vs. Isotropic
Isotropic is an experienced duelist who is currently playing an almost generic beat down deck with 3 Gemini elves, 2 spear dragons, a jinzo and so on. There isn’t really a theme that runs, but his deck is still good. I expected this to be close, but it didn’t quite work out that way…
For two matches, neither of us had stellar hands and he ended up top-decking but I set and played cards that I needed to, but I held on to the cards for my combo (I already had a flute and two tyrants in my hand, but the lord of D. didn’t wanna show up). So we both played it by ear for 2 turns. On this turn I made a run for the win (he had 6100 LP, and I had 5600). I had set an Imperial Order and had an MST in my hand and played it to take out his Mirror Force, then I played out my combo summoning two tyrant dragons for the big win. The second match was his loss because, in his words, “when you (actually me) flipped fiber jar, it completely ruined my hand,” it also gave me a pretty good hand and I ended up winning without my combo. I won the round 2 and 0 again.
Round 3—Me vs. Joe Myestus
Joe Myestus is one of the best duelists around; the last time we played was in the previous week’s tourney and I lost 1-2. He has an awesome deck that contains a lot of underrated cards and great cards alike. Underrated cards include cards like Exchange. He has a lot of skill. Anyway:
He goes first. He plays and sets all but two cards in his hand and plays Exchange. I have no choice but to take exchange his Magician of Faith for my Feather Duster. On my turn I draw a NOC, which I play on his facedown Sangan. I then play my sangan and attack him direct because I know that he would not waste a cylinder or mirror force or a torrential on my sangan. He draws and plays my feather duster (from his exchange) to take out my torrential tribute. He has one m/t set and plays a Goblin attack force to blow away my sangan. With sangan’s effect I get yata-garasu. The following turn, I play MST on his Cylinder and then I summon spear dragon to do 1900 damage to his GAF. On his turn, he snatch steals my spear and sacks it for Jinzo. I cannot defend this attack and I take 2400 direct. On my next turn, I “bow down” with Swords of Revealing Light” and I set a Cyber Jar so I can get more cards into my hand and wipe out jinzo. On his turn, he plays Heavy Storm and takes out my swords and Call of Haunted. He attacks my Cyber Jar. With this cyber jar, I get Luster Dragon, Flute, Spear, Change of Heart, and Monster Reborn. In his Main phase 2, he sets a monster and one trap (probably his Mirror Force which I saw because of Cyber). I draw my 2nd MST thankfully, and I play it only to take out his bluff (his premature burial). I Monster Reborn his Jinzo, play change of heart on his facedown fiber jar, so I sack his Fiber for my Luster dragon and end the game. I ended up beating Joe Myestus for my first time 2-1.
Round 4—Final Round—Me vs. JJ Metzinger
JJ Metzinger is another one of the best duelists in my area, and we also happen to be best friends. We play at almost every tournament together and about half the time we end up playing each other either in finals or semi-finals (we both almost always get this far and there are usually about 36 people but today there weren’t nearly that many). He used to play an amazing Yata deck but now he plays a great Gravekeeper deck. We both know each other’s decks like the back of our hands because we help each other improve and test our decks. Usually when we test a deck the person with the experimental deck will play against the other person’s perfected deck so we can see what needs to be changed in order to make our decks “Tournament Worthy” as we say. Meaning that it has a fair chance of making it all the way, not just to the 2nd round. I will briefly go through both matches, as they are unusual wins for my deck. And now on to the final Duel:
I go first. I have a hand that someone would look at and say that I was playing a Lock deck. My hand consists of Change of Heart, Raigeki, Yata, Torrential Tribute, Feather Duster, and Sangan. I set sangan and end my turn. He kills it with a Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier, so I take a little damage, and I get an Exiled Force from my deck as I decide to go for the lockdown. He has no M/T set. I simply set Torrential and Imperial Order (which I drew this turn). I play Change of Heart, and summon yata and attack for 1700 and no draw. He laughs at me and says, “Do you really think you will lock me on the first turn!?” I said to him that I simply don’t like to see him draw cards…His turn: He summons his Yata-Garasu (coincidence?) and I torrential tribute (bye-bye yata and spear soldier). He sets one M/T, seemingly out of desperation. On my turn I draw Fissure. I play my Duster. It was a Heavy Storm…I attack with yata. And that’s a lock, folks. Somehow I pulled out a yata lock in the second match also, plus it happened in the 2nd turn: I went first. I set Imperial Order, Magic Cylinder, and Fiber Jar. On his turn, he tried to NOC my fiber so I Imperial Ordered it, and he was forced to summon a monster and attack or just not do anything at all. He set a m/t and ended his turn. On my turn, I simply flipped fiber. I drew yata-garasu, fissure, Change of Heart, Jinzo, and Torrential Tribute. With his side of the field now empty, I attacked him with yata and set my torrential. On his turn, he summoned a spear soldier and I torrential tribute it, he then set a m/t and ended his turn. I drew a spear dragon. I set my change of heart as a bluff, and attacked him with yata even though he set a m/t. It turned out that it was just an MST and he agreed that I had him locked for a second time. I won the final match 2-0.
I received five extra packs for my winnings. I chose all pharonic guardian packs in hopes of pulling a ring, unfortunately someone else pulled it and I ended up getting nothing but a Mirage of Nightmare…but it’s okay.
Props & Slops:
Props—
-*To me for having only one loss out of 20 tournament duels today. * 19-1 is a very good record to have…
-To me for making an outstanding deck that had amazing results today.
-To me for pulling off 5 total first turn kills with my combo today
Slops—
-To Exchange for owning me
-To resorting to 2 wins with yata-garasu and both of them being in the finals…bummer (I like to whip out the big combo in the final match for a nice finish and to show off my deck’s power but oh well)
-*To Joe Myestus who was the only person to beat me once today, and ruining my perfect record. *

please e-mail me at: Cheeseball921@aol.com
I am going to make some small changes/upgrades to this deck for MFC, like substituting in two Luster Dragons (MFC), and a couple other small things, including highly upgrading my side-deck. If you have questions on deck help you can e-mail also. I run more than just this dragon deck, I actually am currently running 4 tournament worthy decks including: Zombie, Burn/Barrel behind the door deck, Magical Scientist (I hate these kinds of decks so I almost never will use it), and this dragon deck. I also have good expertise on many other decks that I use to run and that my best friend and I make together. Some of these include: Maha Vailo/equip decks, Warrior decks, Amazoness deck, Yata Lockdown deck, Clown Control deck (old school), generic Beatdown, Dark Paladin deck, Exodia deck, F-I-N-A-L deck, Water lockdown and offensive decks, a Redline deck, a Fiend deck, and a “Weenie” beatdown/direct LP attack decks (can be very good). That’s all until next time!
Thanks,
