So here's an interesting story. When I got to the tournament, I wanted
to play my new warrior deck, but I only had one Marauding Captain.
I figured I'd just trade for another right? Wrong... no one had one...
The tournament was about to start so I started to switch my deck over
to be a Fiend deck with Necrofears... I got it pretty close to a fiend
deck when someone showed up with a Marauding Captain. I traded a Rope
of Life for it and then realized the tournament was about to start.
With the help of Mike, I furiously started to remake my Warrior deck.
My opponent arrived and I held us up a bit while I tried to put the deck
together. Finally, I thought I had it, and we began to duel, a couple minutes
after other people. (To be Continued...)
(Note, I may not have the order of the duels during the swiss portion
completely correct.)
First duel:
Me vs. Matt (Beatdown?)
Match 1:
So, after profusely apologizing for delaying the game (he didn't
seem to mind all that much) we started. I got off to a great start with this
game. Reinforcements of the Army came in handy as did my Marauding Captain
Bringing out GAF. It was over my 3rd turn.
Me: 8000
Him: 8000 - 4800 - 0
Match 2:
This one was much tougher, and it lasted a good amount of time.
I'm sorry if my memory isn't as good as it should be... I didn't take notes
other then life points. We went back and forth in the beginning, countering
each other. I think an exchange was used at one point, though I could be
dreaming that part...
Me: 8000 - 7000 - 5300
Him: 8000 - 7000 - 6000 - 3600 - 2600 - 0
Second Duel:
Me vs. Walter (Zombie/Control)
Match 1:
My warriors seemed to working pretty well for me, or so I thought.
They at least worked well this duel. An opening hit from GAF and then a TIV
started things off and all went according to plan. I remember I did one cool thing,
I had GAF and TIV and he had a Vamp Lord and a Spirit Reaper, both in attack mode.
I killed the VL in battle with GAF then hit for 1300 over the Reaper then in MP2
discarded calling Zombie... Was it worth it to get rid of the V Lord, or should I
have dealt the extra 2000 + 300 damage even though it would have meant the V Lord would
come back.... shrug, I think I made the right decision...
Me: 8000 - 7200 - 6600
Him: 8000 - 5700 - 4100 - 2700 - 0
Match 2:
Here... things started to fall apart... I just remember this huge
attack that shattered my world. It was like... all sorts of bad things at once.
Darn Vampire Lord...
Me: 8000 - 6000 - 800 - 0
Him: 8000 - 7300 - 5300
Match 3:
Alright, here we go, number three. Yeah, I got trounced.
Me: 8000 - 4000 - 2800 - 400 - 0
Him: 8000 - 7300
Third Duel:
Me vs. Evan (Beatdown (warrior)?)
Match 1:
Evan's deck had a little bit of warrior blood in it, as witnessed
by the GAF which gouged me... but my warriors proved to be superior in the end.
And remember, Evan, you shouldn't put all your normal Spell cards on the field, Heavy
Storm is a powerful enemy...
Me: 8000 - 5700
Him: 8000 - 4600 - 2300 - 0
Match 2:
This duel was a lot more drawn out then the previous. I think Evan
was just warming up, so I'm glad I faced him relatively early in the tournament.
We went back and forth, attacking, clearing, attacking... Things looked pretty
bleak at the end, but Scientist came to the rescue and that was 2000 well spent : )
Me: 8000 - 7200 - 5300 - 3400 - 2600 - 600
Him: 8000 - 7600 - 7200 - 5200 - 4100 - 3100 - 0
Fourth Duel:
Me vs. G-Dog (beatdown?)
Match 1:
G-Dog and I always have good duels. And these were no exception.
He ran Gravekeepers for awhile, but he wasn't running them today.
Anyway, the first duel saw us top decking at the end.
Me: 8000 - 7200 - 5500 - 3100 - 2300
Him: 8000 - 5900 - 4900 - 2500 - 0
Match 2:
An early RoD set the pace for this duel. I got a pretty big hit in
soon after, but it was at the cost of Snatch Stealing his Berserk Gorilla. He
then Snatch Stole it back for awhile and we both gained life points : )
Then a little later, I MST'd his Snatch Steal, regaining control of the gorilla.
Heh, that gorilla was his undoing.
Me: 8000 - 6400 - 4400 - 5400 - 6400
Him: 8000 - 6400 - 4800 - 2800 - 3800 - 4800 - 3800 - 2800 - 0
Fifth Duel:
Me vs. J (beatdown?)
Match 1:
J prefers to be known as J, though I think his name is James ; )
Anyway, my warriors did what they do best the first game, they slammed for
5600 damage.
Me: 8000 - 7500 - 5600 - 4800
Him: 8000 - 2400 - 800 - 0
Match 2:
GAF started the party and Sasuke made an appearance in the middle
(man I love that card... Sasuke rules). I think the longer-then-usual 5 rounds
was starting to tire both of us out... After it all, a Marauding Captain stood
proud on the top of a blood-stained hill.
Me: 8000 - 6000 - 5200
Him: 8000 - 5700 - 5200 - 1200 - 0
Yay! I'm in Top 8! Woot!
Top 8
Me vs. Will (Big Show Deck)
Match 1:
So, what exactly is a Big Show deck you ask? Well, what Will did was
go through his cards, and all those good cards you can't decide whether to put in
your deck or not... he put it in. This was a 70ish card deck that got him in the top
eight two weeks in a row... I know, you'd think it would be physically impossible...
Anyway, the big show didn't work as well as he had planned, but I admire his style!
Me: 8000 - 7000 - 6100 - 5700 - 4700
Him: 8000 - 6400 - 3400 - 2400 - 1400 - 0
Match 2:
I brought the house down on the Big Show... There was a Lily and a Snatch
Steal used... the rest is a blur...
Me: 8000 - 6200 - 5700 - 5200 - 6200
Him: 8000 - 6000 - 4600 - 2300 - 400 - 0
Top 4
Me vs. Brian (Warrior)
Now, Brian is a great friend, and he makes some awesome decks. For awhile we both
ran fiends with Necrofear representing, and now, apparently, we're both running
Warrior : )
I knew I was in for a tough duel, but boy, I didn't know how tough. Check out the life
points while I go cry in a corner.
Me: 8000 - 5700 - 0
Him: 8000
Match 2:
This was my chance to make up for that last duel. And I did, at first...
I whacked him for a solid 3900, then got him down to 800... I was still at 8000! Full Health!
However, I had depleted my hand down to nothing and he managed to clear the field. Top
decking ensued. I figured, one monster, that's all I need... Even Cyber could toast him...
but no... what followed was a string of (at this point) useless Spell and Trap cards.
Why were the Traps useless you ask? Because he got Jinzo out somehow.... arg! Yeah,
that's right, I lost with a 7200 point lead... oh well....
Me: 8000                       - 7700 - 6400 - 5100 - 2700 - 0
Him: 8000 - 4100 - 1700 - 800
Conclusion:
Well, that was it, top 4 again, not too shabby. So here's the kicker... remember how in
the beginning I was rushing to put my deck together? Well, in the rush, I forgot to put
the 1st Maruading Captain back in. Yeah, see, I traded for the 2nd, causing me to switch the
deck again, and in the end... I played the whole Tournament with only one Captain! ARG!!!
Not only that, my Exiled Force and Mirage of Nightmare didn't get back in somehow...
So, for a warrior deck with only one Marauding Captain and no Exiled Force, I'd say it
did pretty good. Also, see, the combo I wanted to pull off was the Dark Designator/D.D.
Designator combo... but I never did... so I think I'm gonna take those cards out, too bad
cause it would have been fun to put Yata in someone's hand, only to remove it from play : )
(Brian went on to win it, so does that put me in 3rd? I'll say yes :)
Props:
Getting 3rd place
Dueling very nice duelists!
Dueling a fun duel in between other duels with Kyle.
Pulling a Fiend SKull Dragon in my prize pack, not too shabby...
Actually having winnings!
Slops:
Forgetting to add my Captain (after trading for it specifically), xForce, and Mirage!!
