Well, this was it. The day of reckoning for my newly built and barely played, Chaos deck. I struggled for days with what deck to play with at this Regional event, and I did not finally decide until we got there. It was between Chaos or Zombie. I had put the Chaos deck together about a week ago and I didn't feel it was perfected. It did fairly well at the local tournament, but I was uncertain how it would do at a much larger, potentially more competitive atmosphere. The Zombie deck had already proven itself on two occasions as a tournament winner. The Zombie deck is excellent against hand control, good against Chaos and Beatdown. Decisions, decisions. Oh well, I had filled out the deck list for both decks and only made up my mind to use the Chaos deck about 15 minutes before registration. I was feeling daring and figured, what had I to lose beside $15?

It was about an hour drive to get there. My daughter (who dropped out of the tournament when she was 4 and 4 for some reason) and I got there around 9:30 and met up with 6 other people who play at our local store. We've begun to call our little group "The Skull Servants." It was crowded. It was hot.

Played a practice round with my Chaos deck. Oh my! The deck ran smooth, deadly and fast. On my second turn, I cleared my opponents field, summoned 3 DMoC's and enjoyed a one turn kill. Sweet. Hopefully the rest of the day would go as smooth as this practice game.

Registration and paperwork followed. We didn't get the first pairings until 11am or thereabouts. Did I mention it was crowded and hot? It was.

The three types of decks I felt I'd see the most of were: Chaos, Hand Control and Beatdown.  I expected to see a few Magical Scientist and possibly a Strike Ninja deck or two. My predictions were accurate, except I had to play against more Magical Scientist decks than I expected, so I think there were a lot of them. I only faced one other Chaos deck during the day.

  ROUND 1:
 Chaos VS Strike Ninja Deck
Hey! I'm psychic. The first deck I faced was a very good Strike Ninja deck. It sort of surprised me. First game, he flat out killed me. The next two games I totally dominated the field. The last game I had BLS, CED and DMOC on an open field. My first one turn kill of the day.

 RECORD: 1-0
Took a break, chatted with friends. Got a drink.

 ROUND 2:
 Chaos VS  Beatdown
We didn't hear them call for the second pairing, so I got to the table late and was given a loss for being late. That sucked. They never told us of that policy beforehand, and I thought it wasn't right to hand out a loss. Oh well, live and learn. The lady next to the person I was dueling seemed to gloat over the fact that I had been given a loss. Her opponent, who was a friend of mine, was also late and given a loss. She seemed to enjoy that.
First game. I automatically lost because I was late. Like I said, that sucked.
Second game. It didn't matter that I was given a loss for the first game. It was total domination on my part.
Third game. Once again, it was complete domination. Opponent had two magic and trap on the field and a set face down monster. I took a chance and summoned BLS and Yata. I removed the face down card from play and attacked with Yata. He had nothing to stop it. That was game. He set whatever monster he had in his hand and I removed it with BLS and attacked with Yata until he had no other monsters to set.

 RECORD: 2-0
Feeling good. The deck is running well and I haven't had too many problems getting the big guns on the field early.
Break for lunch. Walked to McDonald's. It was HOT outside. Melted on the way there. Had a grilled chicken sandwich and my daughter had a Double Quarter Pounder with cheese - ketchup only. Cooled off inside. Melted on the way back to the store. Made sure we got back in plenty of time to avoid another loss for being late.
Started drinking gallons of water. Kudos to T n T Toys for selling bottled water, cokes, candy and bags of chips for 50 cents each. That rocked! Affordable snacks because we all spend our money on cards. Who has money left over for dumb things like food and drink?

 ROUND 3:
 Chaos VS Beatdown
This was one of the local store players. He drew everything he needed. I drew crap every game.
Nothing much to tell here, he just overpowered me with GAF's and Berserk Gorillas. Injection pounded me.
Ring of Destruction on GAF both games for the final nail in the coffin. The pain was swift and undeniable.
 Terrible, humbling loss.

 RECORD: 2-1

 ROUND 4:
Chaos VS Beatdown (Again. Third beatdown deck of the day)
Uplifting and restored my faith in my deck. This time, I had no problem. Won both games easily and quickly.
Enjoyed my second one turn kill of the day in the second game. Three DMoC, BLS and CED in one turn. Overkill.

 RECORD: 3-1

 ROUND 5:
 Chaos VS Magical Scientist
Oh boy. This was horrible. For me, that is. I won the coin toss and decided to go second. BIG mistake. On his first turn, he summoned Cannon Soldier and two Last Will. Launched the Cannon Soldier and Special Summoned both Magical Scientist and Catapult Turtle. One turn kill and I didn't even get to draw my first card. That sucked. This happened to me at the last regional. I didn't like it then, and I didn't like it now.
Everyone complains about how Yata is so cheap, but to me, this simple lucky draw Magical Scientist junk is the cheapest, lamest, no skill bunch of CRAP I have ever seen.
Second game went a little better for me. I kept pecking away at his LP but he managed to get me down to 1800. He was at 3400 and managed to get Cannon Soldier and Magical Scientist. I had the CED in my hand and the monsters to summon it but I didn't. I was going to wait until the next turn to blow everything up. BIG mistake again. He paid his 2000LP to summon some 2 fusion monsters and launched them, the Scientist and the Cannon Soldier for game. Ugh. I think I lost that one due to my own stupidity.

 RECORD 3-2
I wasn't feeling too good about my play today. I had lost a little confidence. I had made a couple of mistakes that may have cost me duels and maybe even a match. I didn't want to lose two more times, because I would be eliminated out of the top 16 for sure. I didn't want to leave with a losing record. At a tournament this size, I figured if I finish with a winning record or an even record, I'd be happy. I didn't want to go home a loser.

 ROUND 6:
Chaos VS Warrior/Beatdown (Fourth Beatdown deck of the day)
First game. Wow. This was frustrating. I went through over half my deck on the first turn and managed to get some DMoC's on the field but he kept removing them from play with DD Warrior Lady. I attacked two face down DD Warrior Lady and he removed both DMoC's from play. Aargh! Then he Exiled Force'd the third. Grrr. He was back pedaling the whole game, struggling to keep my DMoC's from the field. He played pure defense because I was overwhelming him. I finally managed to summon BLS and Yata. I removed the face down card he had from play and it was his third DD Warrior Lady. Whew. Yata lock.
Second game. Wow. Another amazing game. I was at 8000lp (thanks to the amazingly good Waboku) and had him down to 5400lp when he tributes DD Warrior Lady for Jinzo, Monster Reborn'd my Reflect Bounder and Premature Burial'd his DD Warrior Lady and attacked with all of them. I had another Waboku set, but was useless now with Jinzo on the field. Ouch. 5600 damage in one turn. I was at 2400lp and he was at 5100lp. I had Call of the Haunted, DMoC, DD Warrior Lady and Tribe Infecting Virus in my hand. I drew. Chaos Emperor Dragon! Whew! The "heart of the cards" came through for me. I summoned Tribe, discarded the DMoC and DD Warrior Lady to destroy Jinzo, Reflect Bounder and DD Warrior Lady, Removed the DMoC and DD Warrior lady to summon CED and attacked with CED and Tribe. I set the Call of the Haunted, then stupidly, I ended my turn when he had 500lp left. I'm an idiot!
He drew and I about kicked myself in the head because I could have paid the 1000lp for CED's effect for the win. He set a card and ended his turn. Whew. I drew and then blew up the field for game. That was another mistake that could have cost me the game or match. Gosh, I'd better play smarter than that!

 RECORD:
 4-2

I was feeling a little better with that win. I could have lost the game because of my own stupidity but it worked out all right in the end.

 ROUND 7:
 Chaos VS Magical Scientist
Ugh. Another Scientist deck. I hate those.
First game was and easy win for me. BLS took care of it. Me 8000lp. Opponent 0LP.
Second game. Brutal. CED, attack, blow up everything, got him down to 750. He draws and sets a card. I top deck my Reflect Bounder and attack for the win. His face down card was Judgment of Anubis.

 RECORD:
 5-2

 ROUND 8:
 Chaos VS Chaos
Best duels of the day. This guy was good. He was running some Kycoo's and kept taking my light and dark monsters from play so I couldn't summon CED or BLS. He manage to DD Warrior Lady my Sangan and Shining Angel and I had the CED in my hand. I switched gears in mid game to totally forget about BLS and CED and concentrated on the DMoC summons. Before I could regroup, he got Jinzo and Breaker on the field and whooped my behind.
Second game. I got the upper hand in a hurry. I managed to get a BLS and DMoC on the field fairly and quickly knocked him down to 1000lp and he couldn't recover.
Third game. Wow.  Had a hand full of tributes I couldn't summon, Yata and a Cyber Jar. I hoped Cyber Jar would help me out but he got BLS on the field and Yata. Ouch.

 RECORD:
 5-3

I didn't want to lose again. Somehow finishing 6-3 sounds a lot better than finishing 5-4.
75% win ratio is way better than 60%.

 ROUND 9
 Chaos VS Magical Scientist/Mirage Knight
Crap! Another Scientist deck. The third one I faced.
First game was a massacre. BLS and 2 DMoC's. I killed him.
Second game, he managed to the Magical Scientist, Dark Flare Knight, Mirage Knight thing and killed me in retaliation.
Third game. This was a perfect way to finish off the day.  He was at 1300. I had BLS on the field. He summoned Magical Scientist, paid 1000 for Thousand Eyes Restrict, sucked up my BLS and attacked me with it. AGH! We were both top decking and I drew...Cyber Jar! I attacked his Scientist with the Cyber Jar for the win! Ha ha! We both laughed it was so funny! Cyber Jar RULES!

 FINAL RECORD
 6-3

All in all it was a very fun day (did I mention it was HOT?). I didn't make it to the top 4 but, I had a respectable record and ended up 24th. That sort of sucked because a friend of mine had the same record and ended up 12th. Stupid Swiss format. Oh well, I can't complain. I met a lot of great people, dueled some good decks and had fun.

T n T Toys did a great job. I didn't have any rulings questions come up, so I didn't have any judge problems.
All the people I dueled were friendly and cool. No jerks or big headed duelists so, that was good, too.
If you read this, then thanks for making it this far.
Thanks to Pojo for posting this in the tournament report section. This is my first, and I hope I can contribute some more in the future.
