Hi all. Welcome to another Tournament Report for this week. I hope everyone had a great weekend filled with dueling and victory!

We left for the tournament right after church. The store is about a 30 to 40 minute drive, so I usually make everyone I take with me lunches, and we eat in the van on the way to the store. We try to get there about a half hour early to do some trading and have a few practice rounds. Registration starts at 2, but the tournament starts around 2:30.

We got to the store around 1:30 and said wassup to Tim, the store manager, and a bunch of other folks. I sat down, did a little trading, and got in a few practice games.

I practiced with Joseph, an excellent duelist, who usually runs hand control, but wanted to test his newly born Chaos deck against mine. We did three sets of battles. I won two and he won one. Then, he wanted to duel me with another deck he had been working on, a speed warrior deck. I said sure.

He killed me with it both games. I mean they were a slaughter. Wow.

He asked me to help him pick which deck to play with. He shuffled three deck boxes around. I closed my eyes and picked one. He said, "Not that one!" LOL. So, he shuffled the two remaining boxes and I picked the warrior deck. He still expressed some concerns about playing with that one. I told him to go ahead and try it, because he had totally killed me with it.

Joseph said he was suffering from a "Tournament Curse". Every time he plays me for practice or fun, he wins. When he plays me in a tournament, he loses. Well, I can see where he gets the idea he's cursed, because that does seem to happen a lot.  I think he's beaten me once in Tournament play.

He decided to play with the warrior deck any way. Uh, oh.

I was tweaking my deck a little and thinking about making a couple of changes, when the 1st pairings were called. I had to give up changing the deck and played with it the way it was.

ROUND 1
Chaos VS a mess of nothing

This seems to be my week for dueling inexperienced people in the first round.

When you've been dueling for a while, you immediately pick up on the tell tale signs you're facing a relatively new player. This young man exhibited 2 behaviors that set him into the new player category. First, his cards were not in sleeves. Second, he said he hadn't played in a long time. If a person sits down to duel, and their cards aren't in sleeves and they start making excuses, then you can bet they're inexperienced. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, we all were noob's at one time. I myself, enjoy dueling new players. I can help them and give them advice. I know I needed help and advice when I first started!

Game 1

I won the die roll and chose to go second. He went first and filled his M/T zone with everything he had and set a monster. Oh well. Another noobish clue.

Later in the game, I special summoned a DMoC from the graveyard. He kept asking me when he could activate Trap Hole and had to explain to him about not being able to Trap Hole a special summon and blah, blah, blah.

By my second turn, I had him Yata locked with a DMoC on the field. He did no damage to me. It was pretty bad. He said he knew he was going to lose and got up to leave. I told him it was best 2 out of 3 and he looked surprised and sat back down.

Game 2

More of the same. I got BLS on the field and he asked if he could play Trap Hole. Again with the explanation. Eventually, I summoned WotBF and told him he could Trap Hole her if he wanted. He did. That was kind of mean, I suppose. On his next turn, he summoned Time Wizard to try to get rid of my BLS. He lost the coin toss. He was only at 500LP. He lost 250LP due to Time Wizard's effect. He ended his turn and I just attacked him with the BLS for the win.

RECORD
1-0

ROUND 2
Chaos VS Speed Warrior

OH NO! I had to play Joseph in this round! I was feeling pretty bad because he had completely devastated me in the practice games with his deck. Oh well, at least my defeat would be swift.

Game 1

It wasn't so bad after all. I hit Joseph's Fiber Jar early in the game so, I knew he didn't really have anything good in his hand, yet. Fiber Jar gave me Waboku, Imperial Order, DMoC, WoTBF and Painful Choice. Not too bad of a hand. I had already summoned, so I set Waboku and ended my turn.

On his turn, he sets a monster and a card in his M/T zone. Hmm. Interesting.

I draw Black Luster Soldier. What luck. I play Painful Choice and pick 3 Thunder Dragon, Magical Scientist and Sangan. He gave me the Scientist. I wasn't so sure I would've done that. I special summon BLS and normal summon WotBF. I remove his f/d monster from play. Good. It was a DD Warrior Lady! I attack with WoTBF. Joseph activates Waboku. Curses. Stupid Waboku.

On his turn, he summons another DD Warrior Lady and suicides with my BLS, removing it from play. Darn it! He did take 1500LP damage by attacking my BLS, but he was gone now. He said he had to do something to get rid of him! Oh well. I knew he was desperate if he was killing himself.

I drew a DD Warrior Lady and attacked with WoTBF and DD.

He set a monster card and ended his turn.

Sometimes during a duel, you just want to kick yourself in the head for being stupid. I've been dueling for a long time now, and I still mess up all the time!  I had Magical Scientist in my hand and I should have used him. Why didn't I summon him? I don't know. I had a brain freeze or something. I attacked his face down card with DD Warrior Lady. It was Fiber Jar! Why didn't I see that coming? Argh, I am such an idiot! At least I hadn't summoned a monster that turn.

I got a Reload with the Fiber Jar. I didn't like my hand so, I played the Reload. I got a Cyber Jar, a Waboku and some other stuff that didn't matter. I set the Cyber Jar and the Waboku. Waboku isn't so stupid when it's set on your side of the field!

Joseph summoned Breaker and removed the token to get rid of my Waboku, which I activated. Ha, gotta love Waboku! He attacked the Cyber Jar. He got a Goblin Attack Force on the field and I got CED! He set some cards in his M/T zone and ended his turn.

I summon CED, blow up everything for 5800LP damage for the game. CED right after a Cyber Jar is so brutal. Whew. I was so sure I was going to lose. Joseph started saying it was the Tournament Curse! I told him it wasn't over yet!

Game 2

This game was very fun. It see sawed for a while early on but, I felt I had the upperhand after a few turns. We went back and forth for a while and both had some cards in the graveyard.

He summoned a Goblin and attacked my WoTBF. I got Tribe Infecting Virus. I jokingly dared him to summon more warriors!

I drew a DD Warrior Lady, summoned TIV, discarded a Shining Angel to destroy his GAF and attacked.

He attacks TIV next turn. I Premature Burial it and get rid of his warriors again.

We're both slowly nibbling away at each others LP when suddenly, Joseph Monster Reborns Mataza the Zapper. He gets a Goblin by playing The Warrior Returning Alive. He summons Marauding Captain, GAF and attacks with everything. I'm dead. Ouch, that hurt.

3rd game

Wow.

I play Graceful Charity very early in the game. I put Reflect Bounder and Breaker in the graveyard.

I summon BLS. OH, YES! I'm feeling pretty good!

Joseph Snatch Steals my BLS! OH, NO! I'm feeling pretty bad.

He summons Marauding Captain and nothing else. Whew. At least I know he doesn't have any more monsters in his hand. He attacks. 4200LP damage. Ugh....I'm dying.

I had Painful Choice, Card Destruction and Call of the Haunted in my hand. I play Painful Choice. I wanted to get my BLS back by removing the Snatch Steal or to destroy him to get him back by using my Call of the Haunted. I pick Harpie's Feather Duster, 2 MST's, Heavy Storm and Tribe Infecting Virus. My third MST was in the graveyard and my Breaker had been removed from play so, these cards were the best choices. I could have picked Imperial Order too, but if I stopped paying for it, he would've gotten my BLS back. I had already taken some pretty major LP damage, and I didn't want to pay for I.O..

He picked the Tribe to give me. It wasn't my first desire, but that's the card I thought he'd pick, anyway.  I summon TIV, discard Card Destruction to destroy all warriors on the field, and attacked. I set my Call of the Haunted and end my turn.

He activates his Call of the Haunted and returns a GAF to the field to attack my TIV. 700 more LP damage. I'm down to 3100LP. I have to hang on. He ended his turn. Oh, that was good. All he had was the defense position GAF on the field and the activated Call of the Haunted. Joseph plays a little conservatively sometimes so, I wasn't too sure if he had no other monsters in his hand, or if he was waiting to finish me off next turn.

I Call of the Haunted my BLS back. 2 attacks. 3000LP damage.

Joseph sets a monster.

I attack twice. I think he had set a Mataza the Zapper. 3000LP damage again.

Next turn Joseph draws and tosses his Fiber Jar across the table and conceeds. I asked him why he did that. He said I would have removed it from play anyway. I told him I might not have. He said I won anyway. OK. I'll take it.

Thanks to the Tournament Curse. LOL.

RECORD 2-0

ROUND 3
Chaos VS Severe Beatdown

This young man runs a brutal beatdown deck. Axe's, Mage Power, UWS, etc., etc., blah, blah. A weakness is, he tends to burn his hand up in a hurry, and can get caught topdecking very early in the game. But, a good beatdown deck usually top decks very well, and his does. I was hoping to overpower him early with some big monsters before he had a chance to hurt me too badly.

Game 1

Oh, it wasn't looking to good for me at all.

He got Jinzo out on the second turn and started to kill me. He had me down to 500LP in a hurry. and he was at 8000LP. I was desperate. Then, I drew Raigeki and got rid of Jinzo. Without Jinzo, the tables turned. I managed to Monster Reborn a DMoC after putting it in the Graveyard with Graceful Charity to get my Raigeki back and then summoned Yata and attacked. He set a monster card and I played Raigeki, summoned Yata again and locked him up for the game!!! Whew! That was sooo close.

Game 2

Oh my goodness. What happened? I was starting to get mad because some yahoo kept talking to me about trading some Yu Yu Hakusho cards while I was dueling. I kept telling him to shut up, but he wouldn't go away.

I managed to get CED on the field early. I didn't want to destroy every thing yet, because I knew his deck would probably top deck better than mine. Well, he suicided his DD Warrior Lady into my CED and removed it from play. Crap. That's twice today DD Warrior Lady has proven to be deadly to me by getting rid of my big hitters. That was it, I couldn't get anything out to help me and he beat me up. I should have used CED's effect. Live and learn.

Game 3

Oh, for the love of Pete! People, when some one is dueling in a tournament DON'T TALK TO THEM!!!!!!!!!

I was getting ripped because this guy asking me to trade Yu Yu Hakusho cards simply would NOT SHUT UP!!

The game was really close, but I was losing my cool.

We kept hitting each other pretty good. I thought I had it in the bag.  I was at 1400LP. I had a choice to either bring out BLS or CED. I was so rattled by that guy yapping at me, I summoned the BLS, attacked and got him down to 500LP. I should have summoned the CED to attack and blow up everything for the game. I said a bad word, apologized for saying the bad word and then exclaimed maybe if people would shut up, I might could concentrate!!!!!!!

Next turn, my opponent plays Raigeki, then proceeds to kill me with a Goblin and I lose. I was so mad I could have spit!

Well, later on, my opponent tells me he had had Barrel Behind the Door set when I summoned the BLS so, if I had summoned the CED I would've killed myself anyway. I felt better after that. The Barrel Behind the Door was the 1 card he side decked in after our first duel. Smart. Good for him. He went on to win the Tournament. Congratulations!

RECORD
2-1 Out of the Tournament

Oh well, you can't win them all. We hung out for a little while after the tournament, which we usually do, and played some more for the heck of it. I tested out my burn deck and made a few changes on it. I dusted off my beatdown deck and played against someone's Chaos deck, proving a fast beatdown can beat a Chaos deck easily. Maybe I'll play with my beatdown deck next week.

We got home around 8PM and I changed my Chaos deck around a little bit, adding a Snatch Steal and a Change of Heart hoping they will help me with normal tributing for the DMoC's. We'll see.

Until next time, keep on dueling and keep on winning!
