Hi all,
Welcome to the spooky Halloween edition of the Tournament Report! I hope
you all are recouperating well from the holiday antics that are usually
associated with this time of year. Boo. I scared you, didn't I?
Today was a really nice day. It was sort of special because, not only is it
Halloween, it's my birthday. I turned 43 today and everyone at the store signed
a birthday card for me! I even got a few Yu Yu Hakusho cards as a gift. That was
thoughtful. Thanks!
At yesterday's tournament (you can see yesterday's tournament report for
the details), I won with this deck. I still wasn't satisfied with the side deck
though. I kept going to my side deck for two cards in particular, so I decided
to go ahead and main deck them. They were Nobleman of Crossout and Raigeki
Break. Technically, the 2 NoC would make it three cards, but you know what I
mean.
I also substantially changed the side deck again, right before the
tournament.
Here's the deck as it stands today.

The store has a 13 and under tournament beginning at 2PM and my daughter
won. She had a couple of close duels but her dragons came out on top, as
usual.
While the younger duelists battled it out, I got in several practice rounds
with for a warm up. I used a couple of different decks and won most of the time.
But, warm up duels don't count do they? No they don't.
Well, the pairings were finally called and the tournament began!
ROUND 1
Monarchs VS Fire deck
This gentleman has a very creative fire deck. I didn't see the whole deck,
but I have dueled him before and he surprised once me with a Tyrant Dragon and
other cards that I didn't expect. He is a very good duelist and I was sort of
disappointed I had to face him in the first round because, if either of us lost,
it would be a shame that one or the other could not go any farther. I felt we
should meet in the later rounds.
GAME 1
This first game was over in a hurry. I Snatch Stole a Command Knight,
negated his summons with Horn of Heaven, tributed Peten for Zaborg, destroying
his other Command Knight and got TIV on the field. He kept gaining 1000LP but I
was hitting him for over 2000LP each turn, so it didn't matter.
GAME 2
He choses to go first and sets 2 M/T and a monster.
I draw Fiber Jar, 2 Berserk Gorilla, Mobius and 2 Creature Swap. Hmmm.
Interesting opening hand. I don't really like it. I do not want to use Swap for
anything so, I set a Swap and Fiber Jar, hoping to get the flip and a better
hand.
He flips Iron Blacksmith and gets Snatch Steal for his effect. He uses
Change of Heart on my Fiber Jar. I didn't want that to happen. He looks at it
and is a little miffed it's Fiber Jar because he can't get rid of it. He's
either going to have to flip it, or give it back to me.
He summons Blazing
Inapachi and attacks, then flips my Fiber Jar. I think I would have flipped my
Fiber Jar first. After the Fiber flip, he sets nothing.
I summon Berserk and attack, then set Bottomless Trap Hole and Raigeki
Break.
He summons Horus LV4 and I BtH it. HA! He activates Hammer Shot on my
Gorilla. Boo.
I draw, summon another Gorilla, attack and set Enemy Controller.
He activates Snatch Steal on my Gorilla and I almost chain Enemy Controller
or Raigeki Break, but I am winning by a considerable margin and he sets another
monster. I know he's counting on my Gorilla for his only attacker and I thought
I might be able to save my two set cards for something later. I let him take it.
He attacks me with it and ends his turn.
I draw a Mobius. I activate Raigeki Break on my his Snatch Steal, getting
my Gorilla back. I tribute the Gorilla for Zaborg, destroying his monster and
attack.
I flip Fiber Jar a turn later when he is at 300LP and get a Gorilla and
attack for the win.
RECORD 1-0
ROUND 2
Monarch VS Beatdown
Gary has a beatdown deck and uses the Monarchs as well. We've dueled a few
times so, I'm familiar with his deck. It's not as focused on the Monarchs as
mine, but it's still a formidable deck.
GAME 1
I go first and get Gorilla, Breaker, Night Assailant, NoC, Scapegoat and
TiV. I set Scapegoat and Night Assailant.
He sets 1 M/T and a monster.
I NoC his Spirit Reaper. That's beautiful. I summon Berserk and
attack.
He sets another monster and M/T card.
I draw Horn of Heaven. I set another Night Assailant and he Compulsory's my
Gorilla back to my hand. That was sneaky but I don't care. I flip one Night
Assailant and destroy his Cyber Jar. Ha! I attack with the Night Assailant.
Ooooh! Huge damage there! I set Horn of Heaven.
He sets another M/T card, pays 800LP to Premature Burial his Cyber Jar and
tributes it for Mobius. I chain with Horn, sending my face up Night Assailant to
the graveyard to negate the summon of his Mobius! Yes!
I summon TIV and attack and set BtH.
He summons Skilled Dark Magician and I BtH it!
It's 8000LP to 1400LP now. I have a TIV and Berserk on the field and a
Mobius in my hand. He sets a monster and I draw Zaborg. I tribute my Gorilla for
Zaborg and destroy his DD Warrior Lady and attack for the win.
GAME 2
This game was hilarious. I hope you find it half as funny as I did.
He choses to go first and sets a M/T card and a monster.
I draw 2 Night Assailant, Sinister Serpent, NoC, Heavy Storm and Creature
Swap. Not the best of opening hands that's for sure. Hopefully, I can stall a
little bit. I NoC his Spirit Reaper. AGAIN on the first turn! Ha. I set a Night
Assailant and Creature Swap.
He draws and activates PoG. Grrr. He sets another M/T card and activates
Change of Heart on my Night Assailant. He summons a Giant Orc and for some
reason, doesn't flip up my Night Assailant. He attacks with the Orc for 2200LP
damage.
I flip my Night Assailant, destroy his Orc, set the 2nd Night Assailant and
Horn of Heaven. Then I hit him HARD with the Night Assailant for 200LP damage.
He's not gonna recover from THAT attack any time soon! Ha.
He draws and does nothing. Hmmm. He's either got a crappy hand or is
waiting for something.
I draw TiV, set Sinister and attack for another 200LP damage. WOOT! I have
3 monsters on the field and I am so happy Dark Hole and Raigeki are banned
because those two cards could kill me. That would be cheap.
He draws and activates Snatch Steal on my Night Assailant! He tributes it
for Mobius and I chain with Horn of Heaven, sending my Serpent to the graveyard
for Horn's effect. HA!
I draw Painful Choice and activate it. He responds with a Magic Drain and I
don't care. He wouldn't have given me what I wanted anyway. I summon TIV and
attack.
He sets a monster and ends his turn.
I destroy his set monster when I flip up the second Night Assailant.
He summons a Mad Dog and attacks my TIV. It's 5500 - 6000. I am
losing.
I Creature Swap a Peten for his Mad Dog and activate Heavy Storm. He chains
with Waboku. Stupid Waboku. I set a Bottomelss Trap Hole.
He activates Question and I have no idea what his first monster is, so I
tell him to get whatever it is. It was a Giant Orc and I Bottomless Trap Hole
it! HA.
Next turn he RoD's the Mad Dog. I'm still losing 3600 - 4100. I Call TIV
back, discard my Serpent for Spellcaster, destroying my Peten on his side of the
field. I remove the Peten to get another to the field and attack with TiV.
Waboku. Stupid Waboku. Again. Ha.
He sets a monster.
I attack his set monster with TIV, it's a Spirit Reaper and then he
Compulsory's my TiV back to my hand. I didn't care. I set Horn of Heaven.
He tributes his Reaper for Mobius and I negate the summon with Horn of
Heaven and a Peten. I get another Peten to the field. Ha. Ha. That's twice
today.
I set another Night Assailant.
He sets a monster.
I flip Night Assailant and destroy his DD Warrior Lady. I summon TIV and
attack with both. I'm actually winning now. 3300 - 700.
He summons Skilled Dark Magician and attacks my TIV. Next turn I Creature
Swap the face up Night Assailant, summon a Sinister and just to be dumb, attack
with Skilled Dark and Sinister, even though he was already dead.
HAhahahah!
The hysterical thing is, I only ever had Night Assailant, Peten, Sinister
and TIV as my only monsters and I won anyway! That was terribly funny to
me!
RECORD 2-0
ROUND 3
Monarch VS Control
GAME 1
He choses to go first and I get the worst hand I have ever drawn in my
life! Raigeki Break, BTH, Heavy Storm, Enemy Controller and Horn of Heaven. He
activates Confiscation and takes out my Bottomless Trap Hole. He sets a monster
and ends his turn.
I draw Zaborg. Useless. I set Enemy Controller and Raigeki Break and have
to end my turn.
He activates Heavy Storm and I chain the Raigeki Break to his face down DD
Warrior Lady. That's enough of this torture. I have one card in my hand and I
draw PoG and he Magic Drain's it and I can't discard. I get my only hope, a
Peten, NoC'd and I'm down to 100LP when I draw another Zaborg and have to
conceed. That was ugly.
GAME 2
I chose to go first and hope I get a decent hand this time. It's OK. I get
Zaborg, TIV, MST, BTH, Dust Tornado and Peten. I set the BTH and Peten.
Oh MY GOSH!!! He Giant Trunades my BTH then NoC's my Peten AGAIN! This is
not looking good for me at all! He summons a Gorilla and attacks for 2000LP
damage right off the bat! NO!
I draw, MST his set Magic Drain and Enemy Controller his Gorilla, turning
it to defense position and destroying it. I summon TIV and attack for 1600LP. I
set my BTH again and Dust Tornado.
He plays PoG. Darn it! He pays 1000LP to Confiscate my Zaborg. He summons
another Gorilla and I BTH it. Whew...I'm still in this thing! He sets a M/T
card.
I draw Peten. I Dust Tornado his Painful Choice. That's a good indication
he doesn't have any decent M/T cards in his hand. I set the Peten and attack
with TIV.
He sets a monster. OK. He's playing pretty defensively now, maybe I can
press the assault a little.
I Premature Burial Zaborg and attack his set Fiber Jar with TiV. Hmmm. This
could be a fairly decent development. I haven't summoned a monster yet, so Fiber
is OK with me. I get a Gorilla, NoC, 2 Horn of Heaven and Scapegoat. I set
Scapegoat, Horn and summon the Gorilla.
He sets a monster and 1 M/T card.
I draw Premature Burial and NoC his face down monster, he chains with Magic
Drain and I discard Premature Burial to NoC his Shining Angel. Good move on my
part. I attack him with the Gorilla. It's 5200LP - 1800LP. I'm winning.
He plays PoG and the Card Destruction. I only have the Horn of Heaven in my
hand and I get Call of the Haunted. He activates Giant Trunade and I chain my
Scapegoat. He Snatch Steal's my Gorilla and attacks a token. He sets 1 M/T
card.
I draw and gain 1000LP. I set Call of the Haunted and he chains with MST.
Good, he did exactly what I wanted him to do. I really wanted Horn of Heaven set
and not the Call. I set the Horn and end my turn. I've got no other monsters in
my hand but Zaborg.
He Forceful's my Zaborg back to the deck. Oh well. I couldn't do much with
him anyway. He attacks another token with my Gorilla.
I draw a Creature Swap, gain 1000LP and turn a token into attack position
and Swap my Gorilla with it. I attack and he chains Waboku. Stupid Waboku.
He plays Heavy Storm and sets a monster.
I draw Zaborg, tribute my Gorilla for it, destroy his monster and attack
for the win.
GAME 3
We had to start this game over because he misplayed a card and I let him
take it back and it turns out I shouldn't have because he knew what he was going
to and well, maybe I should explain it. I had a BTH and a Night Assailant set,
He activates Change of Heart on my Night Assailant and tributes it for Zaborg. I
immediately chain with BTH, not realizing it was Zaborg (which would have
destroyed itself becasue of his effect). He then whipped out a Nobelman of
Extermination he was going to activate on my BTH. He said, oh I didn't mean to
do that, I played that wrong, yadda yadda. I told him Zaborg had to destroy
himself if there was no other monster on the field for him to destroy. He's
like, oh I didn't know that. I reset my BTH and he took back his NoE, keeping
his Zaborg in the graveyard. Then he NoE's my BTH, I get the other on in my deck
and remove it frok play. Then he activates Premature Burial! I go What the?!?!
No way! I refuse to let you do that because you knew the whole time you were
going to get the Zaborg back anyway, that's why you didn;t care if it was sent
to the graveyard. You'd get to NoE my BTH's AND get you monster back. NO WAY is
this going to happen. He was like, uh oh, I didn't....I went ahead and just said
we could start the duel over. I should've DQ'd him but, it was partly my fault
for activating my BTH without seeing what monster he tributed for.
GAME 3 AGAIN
He goes first. He plays Card Destruction, then Confiscates my Painful
Choice. He sets 3 M/T cards and a monster.
I Creature Swap his face down DD Warrior Lady with a Peten and set Enemy
Controller.
He sets another M/T card, turns Peten to defense and ends his turn.
I flip up DD Warrior Lady, attack my Peten and get another to the
field.
He Call's a Don Zaloog, Premature's a Shining Angel and tributes the Angel
for Jinzo. I activate Enemy Controller, turning his Jinzo to defense position.
He attacks my Peten with Don and I get another to the field.
I draw a Gorilla. I Premature Burial a Mobius, attack Don with DD and
remove both from play and attack his defense position Jinzo with my Mobius. I
didn't summon my Gorilla, becasue he had too many M/T cards set. I kew I could
safely get rid of his Don and Jinzo while Jinzo was on the field, but I didn't
want to push my luck.
He draws and ends his turn.
I draw a TIV and attack with Mobius. He chains with Waboku. Stupid Waboku.
I'm still saving my Gorilla and now I'm saving my TIV in case he brings out
BLS.
Guess who? He summons BLS and attacks and stuff and I get hurt a little
bit. TIV easily takes care of his BLS next turn and I win.
RECORD 3-0
ROUND 4 SEMI-FINALS
Monarchs VS Warrior
Last week, I lost to this guy in the semi-finals at another location. I
wanted PAYBACK! I didn't like the way he dueled and I told him so. He slaps his
cards down, shoves them at you when he is attacking. He never announces his
moves, throws his cards on the table and looks at you like, "Yeah, here's the
card I'm playing, you inferior being. What do you think about that!?" Last week
I made sure he understood how I felt about his negative attitude and superiority
complex. He runs a "cookie cutter" warrior/control deck and has nothing to be so
uppity about. When he comes and plays with a unique deck, better attitude and
wins, then I'll give him props.
This week, he must have taken my advice because he was polite, announced
his moves and only shoved a card at me once and then he apologized afterwards.
Good deal!
GAME 1
I go first and get PoG, BTH, Cyber, Breaker, Horn of Heaven and Premature
Burial. I activate PoG and get Mobius and Change of Heart. Not too bad. I set
Cyber, Horn and BTH.
He activates SoRL, flipping up my Cyber Jar! Grrr. This may be bad, may be
good. Who knows with Cyber Jar? He gets Fiber, BLS (NO!) and a GAF in the Cyber
flip. I get a Night Assailant, Berserk, TIV and Peten. I set the Assailant and
Peten and BTH his GAF. He thinks for a long time....even longer than
that......yeah, about this long...and activates Change of Heart on my Gorilla
and attacks my TIV. He sets 2 M/T cards and summons Reflect Bounder then ends
his turn. Good move on his part.
I draw another Bottomless and he activates Waboku in my draw phase. Hmmm.
I'm not sure I would have done that. I flip up my Night Assailant and destroy
his Fiber Jar. I tribute the Assailant for Zaborg and destroy his Reflect
Bounder. I set BTH and end my turn.
He looks through his graveyard. Oh, he wants to summon BLS so bad, I can
feel it but, he doesn't have any dark monsters in the graveyard. He sets a M/T
card and Premature Burial's his Reflect Bounder.
I draw Scapegoat, MST his SoRL, Change of Heart his face down monster and
tribute it for Mobius, destroying the rest of his M/T cards. He chains with RoD
on Mobius. I premature Burial it and attack for the win. He's like, "How did I
get so low on life points?"
I explained he RoD the Mobius for 2400, I
attacked with Mobius and Zaborg for 4800 and you paid for Premature Burial for
800. That's 8000LP.
GAME 2
For the first time today, I side deck out the Gorillas and replace them
with three Kinetic Soldiers. Funny thing is, this next duel, I never drew one.
Hmmm.
I get BTH, Creature Swap, Night Assailant, Enemy Controller and Painful
Choice.
He sets 3 M/T and ends his turn. That's a lot of setting. I hope I draw
Heavy Storm.
I draw Heavy Storm! He activates Drop Off. BOO!!! That sucked. What are the
odds of that happening? I set BTH and Night Assailant and end my turn.
He activates NoC on my Night Assailant! That hurts! All three are removed
from play. He summons Reflect Bounder and I Bottomless Trap Hole it! Yeah!
I draw NoC, activate Painful Choice and offer 2 Peten, Sinister, TiV and
Breaker. He gives me Sinister and I remove a Peten from play to special summon
another to the field. I set Enemy Controller.
He sets a monster.
I draw MST. I NoC his Magical Scientist. There goes another dark removed
from play. I don't want that mean ol' BLS showing up anytime soon. I set
MST.
He sets another M/T card.
I draw Scapegoat and set it.
He plays Painful Choice. Uh oh, here it comes! He offers Jinzo, BLS, 2 DD
Warrior Lady and Don Zaloog. I'm POSITIVE he has The Warrior Returning Alive
either set, or in his hand. I go ahead and give him Jinzo, knowing full well
that BLS is not far behind. I haev Scapegoat and Enemy Controller set, and a
Creature Swap in my hand, so I may be able to squirm my way out of this.
He uses Snatch Steal on my Peten, tributes it for Jinzo and special summons
BLS. I activate Enemy Controller on his Jinzo and he attacks two of my tokens
with BLS.
I have the draw of the day! Snatch Steal. I turn a token to face up attack
and activate Creature Swap. He gives me Jinzo. I Snatch Steal his BLS and attack
the token with Jinzo and then attack with BLS and if I was a SMART player and
not an IDIOT, I would have attacked the token first with BLS to attack twice and
then attack Jinzo. That would have been 8400LP in one attack but, like I say,
there's a difference in good players and great players and I'm just good.
He summons GAF and attacks my last token, then activates SoRL, which I
immediately MST and attack with BLS twice next turn, like I should have a turn
ago, and win!
Boy, that was dumb on my part. I'm human and make mistakes. What can I
say?
RECORD 4-0
FINALS
Monarchs Vs Water
Wow. A water deck made it to the finals! It must be pretty good to get this
far! Cool. At least it's not another warrior or control deck. Yawn. This guy is
the brother of the guy I dueled in the first round. One runs a fire deck and the
other runs a water deck and they're twins. Neat. I returned my Gorillas to the
main deck for this duel.
GAME 1
Oh my gosh. He owned me like it was nothing! He got that new water monster
from the game where you can discard a water monster from you hand to send a
monster card back to the owners hand, I think it's Abyss Soldier (?) on the
field with another attacker. He kept discarding Sinister from his hand to return
all my monsters to my hand and he just got that loop going and killed me pretty
bad. That was brutal.
I really didn't have anything to side deck against him, maybe some Magic
Jammer or Magic Drain, but nothing really I felt was going to help me a great
deal. I fugured the deck got this far as it is, so I'll keep it the same.
GAME 2
I go first and get Mobius, Premature, Night Assailant, NoC, Painful Choice
and TIV. I set the Night Assailant and am forced to set the Premature Burial
because I'd rather save the NoC and Painful Choice for later and need to set
SOMETHING!
He MST's my Premature. Well, I was sort of expecting that. He plays Painful
Choice and offers Sinster along with Levia Dragon and some stuff that I
think he was just dumping to thin his deck. I give him the Levia Dragon. He
summons Gagagigo and attacks my Night Assailant and I destroy his
Gagagigo.
It's my turn to play Painful Choice and I offer him Sinister, Zaborg, 2
Peten and something else I don't remember. He gives me Sinister and I remove a
Peten to get a Peten and tribute it for Mobius and attack. I have some MT cards
set, I forget what exactly.
He Premature Burial's his Levia Dragon and attacks my Mobius. He sets a
monster.
I draw NoC and get rid of his 2 Penguin Soldier. I summon TIV and he BTH's
it. I can still discard for Sea Serpent and I do.
Later he attacks my Fiber Jar and I manage to get out Zaborg with tokens on
the field when he has no mosters out and attack him pretty good. He got that
Abyss Soldier thing out on me again and returned my Zaborg to my hand, but I had
a Scapegoat for protection and I Snatch Stole his Abyss Soldier and attacked for
the win.
GAME 3
He gets Levia Dragon and A Legendary Ocean on the field in a hurry and
blows up everything and attacks me for 2600. That's really wrong. OUCH.
I manage to get rid of his Levia with TIV again and he Hammer Shot my TIV.
After this, we trade LP a little and it gets really close. 5400 - 5900,
his favor.
I activate Painful Choice and offer him Peten, Raigeki Break, Sinister,
Snatch Steal and Scapegoat. He gives me Sinister. I shuffle my cards around a
little and set Fiber Jar.
He summons something and attacks my Fiber Jar! Hooray for Fiber Jar!
He plays Painful Choice after the Fiber flip and offers me a Gora Turtle, 2
Mother Grizzly, Mobius and Salvage. I give him the Gora Turtle. He sets 1 M/T,
activates SoRL and ends his turn.
I had gotten Breaker, Raigeki Break, Night Assailant, Gorilla and Heavy
Storm in the Fiber flip. I play Heavy Storm, summon Berserk and set the Raigeki
Break. I intend on getting rid of his Gora Turtle next turn. He summons an Aqua
Spirit and I have to Raigeki Break it because he's going to use her effect to
turn my Gorilla into defense position and that's not a good thing for me.
I set Fiber Jar again.
He special summons something (I forget) and tributes monsters for Levia
Dragon and attacks my Gorilla. Ouch. I have Call of the Haunted set and I
am going to flip Fiber on my turn unless I get something good on my turn.
I get something good on my turn. It's Zaborg. I tribute Fiber for Zaborg,
Call my Gorilla back and attack him for the win!
RECORD 5-0
Horray! The Monarchs take another tournament! I'm on a roll again. In my
packs I get crap and a Horus LV6.
Had a great day dueling and trading and eating Pizza. Actually, I didn't
get to eat any of the pizza I bought. I purchased 4 boxes and it was all gone by
the time I decided I wanted a slice. Oh well, I really wasn't hungry
anyway....
Until next time,
Happy Dueling!!!
