Hi all,
Welcome to this week's edition of the Tournament Report! I didn't feel like
taking too many notes today so, this is going to be a little shorter than my
other reports.
I made a few changes to the deck and side deck today, just to try out a
card. Share the Pain. I figured I could use it with Peten just to get his effect
a little quicker, plus I thought it might be another way to get rid of my
opponents monsters. Neat. It worked a couple of times so, I think I'm going to
keep it in. It's a little unexpected, and I am all about trying new and
unexpected things, especially in the Advanced Format.

ROUND 1
Monarch's VS Chaos
GAME 1
I have to set Fiber on my first turn because it's the only monster I have
in my hand.
He attacks my Fiber Jar after he summoned. I attack him with my Gorilla
next turn. The turn after that, I tribute the Gorilla for Mobius, destroying his
2 S/T cards and then Premature my Gorilla and attack. He can't recover after
that, and I win the first game easily.
GAME 2
He gets Jinzo out on his first turn by using Cost Down.
I summon TiV and get rid of his Jinzo. I have Fiber and Cyber in my hand
but I don't want to set it. I attack him a couple of times with TiV while
setting a Night Assailant. He finally sets a monster card and I flip up the
Night Assailant, getting rid of his Cyber Jar. I have a Horn of Heaven set and
when he special summons BLS, I activate it, getting rid of that big warrior type
and win on the next turn.
Good, fast duels.
RECORD 1-0
ROUND 2
Monarchs VS Last Turn
Game 1
He gets Jowgen, Last Turn and Wall of Reavealing Light on me his second
turn and I lose.
Game 2
I side deck ten cards to try to stop him. Well, it didn't help. He played
PoG and I Magic Drained it, but he discarded for it. He summons Jowgen and I RoD
it, only to have him Premature Burial him and do the Wall/Last Turn thing in my
draw phase.
That was ugly. I was sort of ticked off but, it is Swiss Format and if the
stupid Mantis software doesn't drop me becasue I am 1-1, I still have a
chance.
RECORD 1-1
Well, Mantis is STILL stupid because I have to duel the Last Turn deck
AGAIN! That is SO wrong.
ROUND 3
Monarchs VS Last Turn AGAIN!
GAME 1
Well, this went better for me, I NoC'd his Cyber, negated a couple of
summons with Horn and managed to get Mobius on the field to destroy his S/T
cards and I win.
GAME 2
He choses to go first, sets 2 S/T cards and summons Jowgen. You can guess
the rest.
GAME 3
I side deck a whole bunch of cards again. It was a long duel and I played
VERY carefully, saving my Horn of Heaven and stuff for the right moment and it
pays off. I win.
RECORD 2-1
ROUND 4 SEMI FINALS
Monarch VS Water
GAMES 1 and 2
I've dueled this gentleman numerous times, and he has never beaten me.
Today was no exception. Too easy.
RECORD 3-1
FINALS
Monarchs VS Chaos Control
I've dueled this deck quite a few times, but never with my Mobius deck.
It's a fairly straight forward "cookie cutter" Chaos Control deck. Very
predictable.
GAME 1
I win the die roll and chose to go first. I get Night Assailant, Mobius,
Zaborg, NoC, Change of Heart and Enemy Controller. I set the Night Assailant and
Enemy Controller
He activates Painful Choice. Urp....He offers Sinister, DD Warrior Lady,
Shining Angel, DMoC and Waboku. I give him Sinister (of course). I have NoC,
Change and Mobius and Zaborg, so, I'm good if he sets the Sinister. He sets a
monster and some S/T cards.
I draw and he activates Drop Off, dumping my Creature Swap. Big deal. I
activate NoC and he chains a Magic Drain. Well, I have Change of Heart in my
hand so, I do not discard for the Drain and Change his monster card. It's the
Serpent. This indicates to me, he has nothing in his hand. I tribute it for
Mobius and attack.
He summons TIV and discards for Aqua, destroying both our cards. I've
noticed the majority of people will sacrifice
there own TIV, just to get rid
my Mobius. Ha. I like it.
Well, a little later in the duel, I tribute a Night Assailant for Zaborg
and destroy his Cyber Jar.
He summons Reflect Bounder and I use Enemy Controller to take it next turn,
sending my Zaborg to the graveyard for Enemy Controller's effect. I summon
Berserk and attack with his own Reflect Bounder and my Gorilla for the win. 8000
- 0. Good job.
GAME 2
He goes first and I get Fiber Jar, Bottomless Trap Hole, MST, NoC and
Scapegoat. Not too good.
He sets a monster and 1 S/T.
I draw and he activates Drop Off on my Enemy Controller. That sort of
stinks. Oh well, I must carry on. I NoC his Spirit Reaper (YES) and set Fiber
Jar, BTH and Scapegoat.
He activates Painful Choice. RGH! He offers me Don Zaloog, Jinzo, DD
Warrior Lady, Shining Angel and a Mystic Tomato. DD is the only one I can
Bottomless, so I give her to him. He summons DD Warrior Lady and I Bottomless
Trap Hole her. That was a good call!
I draw PoG and, just for the heck of it, play it and get nothing useable so
I flip Fiber Jar. I get PoG (again), Creature Swap, Gorilla, Night Assailant and
Change of Heart. I activate PoG and get Call of the Haunted and NoC. I summon
the Gorilla and attack him directly for 2000LP damage. I set the Call and end my
turn.
He summons TIV and discards for beast, then attacks for 1600. I take the
damage because I do not want to Call the Gorilla back while it's his turn.
I activate Change of Heart on his TIV and he activates Magic Drain. I want
his TIV so, I discard an Enemy Controller. I call my Gorilla back, and attack
with both, then discard a Night Assailant to destroy his TIV. I love that.
I only have one card in my hand and it's NoC. He top decks The Forceful
Senty and gets rid of my NoC! Dang! He sets a monster.
It's 6200 - 2400, my favor, when I attack his monster with my Gorillla.
It's Fiber Jar. Man, that NoC would've come in very handy!
I didn't summon
because I was afraid of his set monster card and it was good that I didn't. I
get Night Assailant, Mobius, Sinister, Scapegoat and Premature Burial. I set the
Night Assailant and Scapegoat.
He Forceful's my Mobius back to my deck and activates Change of Heart on my
Night Assailant and attacks me for a whopping 200LP damage. He sets 4 S/T cards
and ends his turn. He's got NOTHING!
I draw and he activates Drop Off on my Fiber Jar. That sucks. Oh well. He
Dust Tornado's my Scapegoat, which I activate. Heh heh. I attack him with my
Night Assailant. I set Premature Burial as a bluff.
He sets another S/T card.
We both keep drawing pretty much nothing. At least I can keep attacking him
for 200LP damage with my Assailant. Haha.
He keeps getting nothing and I keep attacking him for 200LP. It's 6200 -
1800 now. My Night Assailant is kicking butt and taking names!
Well, he top decks a Snatch Steal, tributes my Assailant for Jinzo and
starts attacking my tokens.
What an amazing turn of events! I draw Snatch Steal and snatch his Jinzo
and attack for the win!
RECORD 4-1
The Monarchs come through for me again this week. I am liking this deck a
good bit! I did manage to use the Share the Pain a couple of times and it worked
out better than I thought. Peten wasn't that big of a factor this week, but they
did stall a little for me.
I chose three packs of AST, because I am looking for more Enemy Controller.
I want to build another deck with Needle Burrower, KA-2 Des Scissors and
trample, or maybe revise my Panda Deck. I didn't get any, but I did pull my 4th
Amplifier. Not too bad.
I did manage to trade a first edition End of Anubis, an Ectoplasmer and $40
for a Royal Decree. I had to pay my "broker" an additional $10 for helping seal
the deal, but it was still worth it. I wanted the Decree to use in my
Traditional format Horus deck, which I will be using tomorrow at another
tournamet. Be sure to look for that Tournament Report!
Until next time, happy dueling!
