Monarch and Horus Decks Come Out to Play Today!
Tournament Reports for November 6, 2004
Hi
all,
Welcome
to this weeks Tournament report. Today we went to two tournaments so, you get
the added pleasure of getting two reports for the price of one! Terriffic! You
didn't pay ANYTHING for the first report so, it's like getting 2 reports for
nothing! Hey, wait a minute, it's EXACTLY like getting 2 reports for nothing!
LOL.
ANYWAY,
On
to the first tournament of the day!

ROUND
1
Monarchs VS Metamorphosis Control
I
get paired up with Moises in the first round. His deck is very cool. It's
pretty much designed around Relinquished/Metamorphosis/TER and can really give
me fits. Today was no exception.
GAME
1
I
go first and get Mobius, Fiber, Horn of Heaven, Enemy Controller, PoG, and get
Peten. I play PoG, get Heavy Storm and a Gorilla. I set Peten and Enemy
Controller.
He
summons Breaker and removes the token to destroy my card which I activate,
turning his Breaker into defense position. He set's 2 S/T cards and ends his
turn.
I
draw TIV. I tribute Peten for Mobius and destroy both his S/T cards. I remove
the Peten to summon another and attack his Breaker with Mobius. I set Horn of
Heaven.
He
summons DD Warrior Lady and I chain the Horn of Heaven, sending Peten to the
graveyard to negate the summon of DD Warrior Lady, and remove it to special
summon my last Peten. He sets a S/T card.
I
draw Berserk Gorilla. I activate Heavy Storm, summon Berserk and attack for
4400LP damage. That's a pretty good hit.
He
summons TIV. Crap. He attacks my Peten, discards for Beast and Aqua, destroying
both our cards.
I
draw NoC, set it and summon Breaker and attack for 1900LP damage.
He
draws and sets a monster.
I
NoC his Sinister Serpent (That's PERFECT), summon TIV and attack for the win!
8000
- 0.
That
was a fairly convincing victory for me.
GAME
2
This
game is really great. I took four pages of notes but, am not going to type the
duel. Moises' deck can stall like crazy and he did it this game. He was winning
and was ahead most of the duel, when we were told time was up and we needed to
stop. Whoever had the most LP now is the winner. I thought that was dumb and
unfair because he was winning this game. I won the first one, and he would get
the match win because he had more life points in the second game? That was
stupid. We needed to do the third duel. It wasn't fair. Well, I lost that game
and we were forced to decide the winner of the match by a coin toss. I lost the
coin toss and Moises got the win. I thought that sucked really big time!
RECORD
0 -1
Well,
that sucked but, it's Swiss Format so, I can still win the tournament if I keep
winning.
ROUND
2
Monarchs VS Earth/Trample/Burn Deck
GAME
1
I
go first and get Gorilla, Snatch Steal, Peten, Mobius, Raigeki Break and Enemy
Controller. I set Peten and Enemy Controller.
He
sets 3 S/T cards and summons Enraged Battle Ox. Uh oh. Trample! This deck may
hurt me. I active Enemy Controller, turning his Ox to defense position. No
trample today, please!
I
draw Call of the Haunted and I Snatch Steal his Ox, tribute it for Mobius, and
destroy his Hallowed Life Barrier (which he activates) and Dark Mirror Force (?
- Someone actually uses this card?) I set Raigeki Break and end my turn.
He
summons TIV and I Raigeki Break it. He doesn't use it's effect or anything so
he ends his turn.
I
draw Horn of Heaven and set it. I attack with Mobius and he activates Draining
Shield. UGH! I hate decks like this.
He
tries to summon Gigantes but I activate Horn of Heaven. Then he summons
Injection Fairy Lily and that sucks. He starts hammering me with Lily and
manages to get a Lava Golem to my side of the field and I attack his Lily once
with the Lava Golem to force him to pay for her effect. It worked out well
because the Lava Golem was gone, he paid 2000LP and I took 400 damage. It was a
good situation for me! I was losing at that point, 5600 - 6400.
He
tributes Lily for Jinzo when I have a few Scapegoat tokens on the field. I draw
Fiber, set it and Change of Heart his Jinzo, attacking him with it. I'm winning
now 5600 - 4000.
He
summons a Gorilla and attacks my Fiber Jar. Hooray! I get Zaborg, Mobius,
Raigeki Break, Enemy Controller and Creature Swap. That blows. I draw a NoC and
set Raigeki Break and Enemy Controller. This isn't looking too good for me.
He
sets an S/T, summons Malice Doll and attack. I go ahead and take the damage.
I
draw Cyber Jar and set it. He attacks it next turn and gets a lot of cards. 2
Solar Flare Dragons, a GAF and Enraged Battle Ox. All Monsters. I get a
Berserk. I chain Raigeki Break to his GAF.
I
take 1000LP damage from the Flare Dragons and play PoG. I get Heavy Storm and
Peten. I tribute the Gorilla for Zaborg and destroy one of his Flare Dragons,
then attack the other with Zaborg. I set Bottomless and NoC.
He
sets 1 S/T card, tributes his Ox for Jinzo and attacks Zaborg. That sucked. Oh
well, whatever.
I
Premature Burial Zaborg, he Call's Jinzo back and I suicide. I set a Peten and
have to end my turn.
I'm
still losing 2200 - 3100 when he summons a Gorilla and I BTH it. Ha.
I
tribute Peten for Mobius, get a Peten, set Scapegoat and Call of the Haunted
and attack!
He
summons TIV, attacks my Peten and I get the third, then he dumps his whole hand
to get rid of everything on the field.
I
Call Mobius back next turn and attack for the win.
GAME
2
He
side decks. A lot. He chose to go first and sets 1 S/T, summons Solar Flare
Dragon and I take 500LP damage.
I
set Peten, Horn and Scapegoat.
He
summons Enraged Battle Ox and I negate the summon with Horn and Peten. I get a
Peten and he attacks it with the Flare Dragon and I get another. I take another
500LP damage.
I
tribute Peten for Zaborg and destroy his Flare Dragon. I attack and he discards
for Hallowed Life Barrier.
He
sets 1 S/T then summons that idiotic Injection Fairy Lily and attacks my
Zaborg. Whatever.
I
draw MST and set a Night Assailant which he NoC's next turn and that REALLY
hurt. I have some S/T cards set so he keeps attacking my Sinsister with Lily.
He
summons TIV and I Bottomless Trap Hole it and he attacks my Sinster with Lily.
I
draw Dust Tornado and set it and Sinister. I think I've stalled with Sinster
for three or four turns.
He
Premature Burials a Dark Driceratops and I Dust Tornado Premature Burial. Whew,
that was close!
He
gets a Spear Dragon out on me and I use Enemy Controller to turn it to defense.
I Snatch his Lily next turn and attack his Spear.
I
Creature Swap his Gigantis and things are looking up for me until I attack his
Fiber Jar.
After
the Fiber Flip I set Raigeki Break, BTH and summon Breaker.
He
summons Lily AGAIN and I Raigeki Break her. He special summons Gigantis and I
BTH it! Wahhahaha!
I
play Heavy Storm and he chains RoD to my Breaker getting me down to 100. He
kills me next turn.
GAME
3
I
chose to go first; Enemy Controller, Painful Choice, Call of the Haunted,
Creature Swap, Gorilla and Breaker. I summon Berserk and set Enemy Controller.
He
sets 1 S/T card, activates Ectoplasmer and summons Malice Doll and tributes it
in the end phase for 800LP damage.
I
summon Breaker, remove the token to destroy his set Magic Cylinder, attack with
Breaker and the Gorilla, then tribute Breaker for Ectoplasmer's effect.
He
sets another S/T card, summons a Solar Flare Dragon and ends his turn. I take
500LP damage.
I
draw MST and activate it on his RoD which he chains to my Gorilla. I Premature
Burial the Gorilla and attack, getting him down to 1600LP. I activate Painful
Choice and offer him 2 Gorilla, Mobius and 2 Zaborg. He gives me the Mobius and
I end my turn.
He
summons his Gorilla and I activate Enemy Controller, turning it to defense and
destroying it.
I
summon Mobius, destroy his Hallowed Life Barrier which he activates by
discarding a card. I set Call of the Haunted.
He
summons TIV and empties his hand to get rid of Mobius and his TIV.
I
Call Mobius back next turn and attack for the win!
RECORD
1 - 1
Well,
due to the stupid coin toss match loss and the quirkiness of the retarded
MANTIS software, I get DROPPED from the tournament! I am not very pleased with
the outcome after the two matches and I am pretty ticked off but, it is only a
game and I get over it.
My
daughter goes on to the semi finals but doesn't win.
OK
so, that tournament sucked. Hopefully, the next tournament will be better.

TRADTIONAL Format
Single Elimination
1st gets 4 packs and a Greenkappa
2nd gets 3 packs and a Lord of the Lamp hahahaha.
3rd place gets 2 packs
There were about 20 people here today.
The
crowds seem to be getting smaller. There was a time when there would be 50 to
60 people here each week. Since the ban list took effect, not as many people
have been showing up. I hope this is only a small downturn and not a permanent
thing.
Today
we had a very hilarous event take place. It occured during the finals and I
will take a brief moment to explain what happened.
Most stores frown upon an individual selling cards to other individuals. Some
stores will actually threaten to call the police. This store is pretty cool
though. They don't really want you selling cards but, unless you are flagrantly
open about it, make it a side business or draw attention to yourself, then they
will ask you to stop. One young man was trying to sell his cards and wrote a
note to another individual that literally read: "Dear R****** (Name
witheld to protect the innocent), Do you want to buy some cards? Check Yes or
No." On the paper, he had even drawn the little squares next to the
yes and no like you do when you want to ask a girl if they like you. The store
manager saw the note in passing and asked the author if he was in the third
grade and was trying to get a date. Everyone cracked up, except the guy who
wrote the note. He flipped out, jumped up, kicked a chair and broke it, then
stormed out of the store!
A
few minutes later, his big sister came into the store and began yelling at the
manager (who is a really cool guy) and knocked his mik shake out of his hand!
She was escorted out of the store and another patron picked up the milk shake
and threw it at her. It hit her on the head and she was covered in milk shake!
Then,
their father came into the store to speak with the manager. When the manager
explained what had happened, their father apologized for their misbehavior.
That
was crazy.
So,
as I was saying...
The
store alternates between Traditional and Advanced format and this week it was
Traditional. So, my Horus deck got the nod. Nothing changed since the last time
I used the deck to win the tournament except, I side decked 3 Kinetic Soldiers
to combat the ever present Warrior/Chaos/Control

ROUND
1
Horus VS Dark Magician Deck
GAME
1
I
go first and get a pretty bad first hand. Stamping Destruction, Graceful,
Painful, RoD, Call of the Haunted and Dark Hole. I play Graceful and get Jinzo,
Raigeki and Mirror Force. I discard Mirror Force and Jinzo, then play Painful
Choice and offer a LV4, Luster, Element, Masked and LV6. He gives me Element
Dragon and I summon it and set Call and RoD.
He
activates PoG, sets 2 S/T cards and activates Mystic Plasma Zone. I didn't know
what type of deck he was using during this part of the duel and I was guessing
a fiend deck when I saw the Mystic Plasma Zone. He doesn't summon or set a
monster though.
I
Call Jinzo and he chains Raigeki Break to the Call. Pooey. I activate Stamping
Destruction on his Waboku and he activates it. Grr.
He
sets another S/T card.
I
draw Giant Trunade and activate it, then attack for 1500LP.
He
uses Soul Exchange combo'd with Tribute Doll and summons a Dark Magician which
I immediately Ring. We both take 3000LP damage.
I
draw Monster Reborn. I Reborn Jinzo and attack for 2400 and that takes him down
to 600 and I win next turn.
GAME
2
This
game was longer than the first but the results were the same. He managed to get
all three Waboku early and kept activating them. Unfortunately, he couldn't get
any good monsters out I had 3 Lusters on the field and, as soon as his Waboku
were used up, it was over.
RECORD 1 - 0
ROUND
2
Horus VS Beatdown
GAME
1
On
the second turn, I have both my LV6 on the field. I don't really like it. He
tributes for Mobius and attacks one of my LV6 and I draw Raigeki. I activate it
and attack with LV6 for 2300. I set Fiber Jar.
He
sets a monster and 1 S/T.
I
flip Fiber and summon a Luster, set Stamping Destruction and attack for 1900.
He
Raigeki's and attacks me with a Skilled Dark Magician.
I
draw RoD, set LV4 and the Ring.
I
RoD his Skilled Dark for the win.
GAME
2
A
couple of his Magic Drain get me and his Orcs overpower my Element Dragons and
such. He hit my Cyber with a Spear Dragon, then got a lot of monsters while I
got diddly.
Last
week, I won a the match by attacking him with a Sinister Serpent for spite and
he kills me with a Spirit Reaper today to win this game. Revenge is a dish best
served cold.
GAME
3
It's
not over yet. We laugh about him killing me with the Spirit Reaper!
He
gets an awful hand. Compulsory Evacuation Devices bounce every monster back to
my hand for three turns. He never draws anything useful. He had a Spirit Reaper
stall for a turn but I RoD it after his Compulsorys were gone and he was a
sitting duck.

ROUND
3
Horus VS Chaos Control
I
play this guy a lot and by now, I have his deck and his play style figured out.
I hope he doesn't read these reports or he may get some insights into how he
plays and how I can read him.
He
uses Drop Off, DD Warrior Lady, Tomato, Angels and Don's. The three Pregnators,
Yata, BLS, CED, the usual boring stuff in a Traditional Control deck. He is
VERY predictable and I can guess, with a fairly high percentage, what card he
is going to set and play. I also know exactly which card he will pick from my
hand with Delinquent and Confiscation.
GAME
1
I
go first and get Fiber and some other stuff. I set Fiber and all my S/T cards.
I'm going to take some big chances this game and they pay off. I'm taking a gamble
that he has some of the Pregnators before he has Harpies and set all my S/T
cards so he can't take them from my hand. Well, it pays off because he had
Delinquent and The Forceful Sentry in his hand and used Forceful first and then
Delinquent when I only had one card left in my hand. Not to clever. He said he
thought I had more cards in my hand. Oh well. Too bad.
He
sets a monster and I flip Fiber on my turn. Ha. He's already paid 1000LP for
Delinquent and I get the cards back. Wahhaaa!
I
get a LV4 and attack him. I set Heavy Storm and Change of Heart to protect them
from any Pregnator and as a bluff.
He
sets a monster and 1 S/T. Now, here's where I can guess what he has. It's one
of three cards. Odds are it's either a Tomato, DD Warrior Lady or Shining
Angel.
I
draw PoG, activate it and he chains with Imperial Order. Oh well. Here's where
the pain begins. I attack his face down (Hey I was RIGHT) Shining Angel and he
gets (Wait for it... let me guess, a DD Warrior Lady perhaps?) DD Warrior Lady.
Right again, I'm 2 for 2! I go ahead and get LV6 during my end phase.
He
uses Exiled Force to get rid of my LV6 and attacks with DD for 1500.
I
Change of Heart his DD, play Heavy Storm and he chains a Reload. Whoopee. I
Premature Burial LV6 (which IS legal) and attack him with both for a healthy
chunk of LP loss. Then I Dark Hole his DD Warrior Lady and my LV6 is still on
the field. THAT was fun!
It's
5700 - 2600 at this point. I'm enjoying a fairly good lead when I attack his
Fiber Jar. He manages to stall a little but, I Snatch Steal his Angel and
attack with a LV4 for the win later on in the duel.
GAME
2
I
side deck 9 cards. NoC's, Kinetic's, TIV, Exiled and some other stuff.
This
duel goes back and forth for a long time. It's really close for a while and
later, I realize I am going to lose, so I RoD my own Luster, I don't give him
the satisfaction of killing me.
GAME
3
I
was winning 7500 - 1600 when he special summons BLS, Calls a TIV back and
attacks for like, a zillion.
I
play Dark Hole. Haha.
He
sets a monster.
I
summon a Luster and do not attack. I set RoD.
Sweet
irony. I RoD my Luster for the win this time.

SEMI
- FINALS
Horus VS Remove from Play/Life gain/Scientist/something wierd deck.
We
didn't have enough people to get 4 folks into the finals, so we had to pick
someone as "Giant Killer", a 4th person to throw into the semi
finals.
This
deck is so amazingly original, I can't even begin to describe what it does!
Unfortunately, it's not built with the Traditional Format in mind. It did
finish in the top 8 at Regionals using the Advanced Format but it simply can
not compete in this format.
GAME
1 and 2
The
deck was fun to play against but seriously, it was rather pathetic against a
deck with all the uber cards in it. I played around a little and do have to
think about a few things while dueling, but pretty much end both duels fairly
quickly. The first game he does no damage to me. The second he does get me down
to 5200 but that was all.
FINALS
Horus VS Chaos/Warrior Control
Last
time we used the Traditional Format, I beat this deck in the finals. He's
looking for revenge.
GAME
1
I
go first and get Mirror Force, Raigeki, LV4, Stamping Destruction, Graceful and
RoD. I play Graceful and get Painful choice, LV6 and a Masked Dragon. I discard
LV6 and Stamping Destruction. I set Mirror Force, RoD and set Masked Dragon.
He
plays Heavy Storm. Great.
He
plays Graceful. Great.
He
discards Jinzo and Don Zaloog. Great.
He
plays Painful Choice. Great. Here it comes.
He
gives me some light and darks and I give him whatever because it doesn't
matter. He summons a DD Warrior Lady and attacks my Masked Dragon, removing
both from play.
He
Drops Off my Cyber Jar and I activate Painful Choice. He chains with Imperial
Order.
He
summons a WotBF and attacks after paying for Imperial.
I
summon a Luster and he RoD's it.
He
pays for Imperial and attacks me with the Witch again. This is embarassing. I'm
slowly getting killed by a WotBF!
I
draw Torrential and set it and summon a LV4.
Imperial
is paid for again. He summons an Angel.
I
do nothing. I don't want Witch or the Angel to go to the Graveyard. He keeps
paying for Imperial and that hurts me.
He
pays for Imperial. He summons Exiled and I have to Torrential.
He
Calls Jinzo back.
I
Raigeki.
He
summons TIV and discards for Dragon and I'm dead.
That
was ugly.
GAME
2
This
was uglier. It was really close. 4400 - 4700. I was losing but had the
advantage. I had Jinzo and TIV on the field which I had just used to get rid of
his face up Spirit Reaper.
Next
turn he Snatch Steal's my Jinzo. special summons Black Loser Soldier and wins.
Well,
I get the last laugh when I pull a Blowback Dragon from my packs and the winner
gets crap!
Oh
well, second place is first loser and I lose.
After
the match, we both complain about how the Traditional Format is not nearly as
competitive or fun as the Advanced Format. Imperial Order shut me down in the
first game. That's lame. Advanced Format is 100 times more fun and competitive.
In Traditional, you know what's coming. You know a Raigeki or Harpies is
lurking just around the corner. You know that set card might be a Mirror Force.
You know they may Monster Reborn your monster and kill you with it. It's simply
a game of who gets the big cards first.
That
does it for this week's edition of the tournament report! Until next time, keep
dueling and keep winning!
