RegnR8's Absolute Rule of the Monarchs.
Tournament Report for October
23, 2004
Hi all,
Welcome to another installment of RegnR8's tournament report. I hope this
writing finds you all healthy and happy! Since I am combining two tournaments
into one report, it's going to be a little shorter and less detailed.
Today, we attended two tournaments and utilized the same deck at both. Last
week, I tweaked this deck with some help from one of my friends, and it really
worked well. I made a couple of mistakes in a few duels, as usual, but managed
to come out unscathed for the most part. It's kind of tricky and it presents me
with a lot of options at times and I have to really consider what I want to do.
It's a beautiful thing to have to really think about what you want to do instead
of playing with a deck every one else uses. Warrior (cough).
Well, here it is.

The side deck is under construction but has some Mystic Tomato, Gilasarus,
NoC's and some other stuff. It's not really that inportant right now. I have 32
cards I am considering for the side deck and just picked 15 for today.
The whole key to this deck is the special summoning of Peten, discarding
with Peten or Night Assaint, Creature Swapping tokens and using Horn of Heaven
to negate summons. Enemy Controller, Change of Heart and Snatch Steal round out
more monster control. Notice there is no Jinzo in the deck and only a few M/T
removal cards. I use the Mobius to get rid of their set cards. Any way, I
discovered that M/T removal was a little lacking in the deck, even with the
Mobius.
The three cards that really worked for me today were Horn of Heaven,
Bottomless Trap Hole and Enemy Controller. I managed to Bottomless a whole bunch
of my opponents monsters after a Cyber Jar flip, TWICE! That was golden! I also
use Bottomless to get rid of BLS, Horn of Heaven to negate Jinzo a couple of
times and negated a few other summons that could have hurt me! Enemy Controller
let me take control of their monster, or tribute a Peten or token to destroy a
monster. Sweet.
On to the tournaments!

We got there close to 11AM and had to wait for about an hour before the
store opened. Forgotten keys were the culprit. I had already had one large
French Vanilla Coffee with cream and sugar before we got to the store, and was
working on my second cup when we started the tournament. I was buzzing!
First pairings were called and off we go!
ROUND 1
Monarchs VS Beatdown/Warrior hybrid thing.
Well, well, what a surprise a warrior deck. This is quickly becoming boring
playing against warrior deck after warrior deck, It's stupid and I am tired of
it.
GAME 1
He gets The Fiend Megacyber out when I have a face down Peten and a face up
Berserk Gorilla on the field. He equips it with Mage Power and attacks my
Gorilla. Next turn, I draw Creature Swap, tribute my Peten for Mobius, destroy
his Mage Power and other set card, remove Peten to summon another one in face up
attack, then Creature Swap it with his Fiend Megacyber and attack! SWEET!
On his turn, he sets a face down monster and I Change of Heart it and he
conceeds.
GAME 2
This game went back and forth for a long time. He activated Solemn Judgment
on his second turn to negate a Creature Swap. He played a Hero emerges and I
drew his Dark Magician! What!? I had Horn of Heaven set and negated it but, that
was freaky! He compulsory evacuated a couple of times but it was too little too
late and He was stalling and I over powered him.
RECORD 1 - 0
ROUND 2
Monarchs VS Chaos
GAME 1
The Night Assailant really comes through for me this game, taking out his
Jinzo. TIV works well when he Call's Jinzo back. We Snatch Steal each others
cards a few times. He takes one of my Gorilla's and I Dust Tornado it next turn
in my main phase after gaining 1000LP. Ha. That was funny. It was 4900 - 3000
when he start top decking while I have Breaker at 1600ATK and TIV in the field.
He sets the M/T card he drew and next turn I attack and it's a set Card
Destruction and I win.
GAME 2
Creature Swap ROCKS. He got Jinzo out and attacked my Peten. I removed him
from play to special summon another one. I Creature Swap my attack position
Peten with his Jinzo, sunnon a Berserk Gorilla and attack. That's nice. He
got BLS out. That's not nice. I Prematured something to tribute for Zaborg, I
destroy BLS, then attack Jinzo but, it's too late. I was at 1400 and he had a
TIV left on the field and I lose.
GAME 3
Late in the game, his SoRL saved him for a couple of turns until I tribute
for Mobius and attack. He summons Reflect Bounder on his next turn but, I Snatch
Steal it, summon a Berserk Gorilla and attack with all three for the win.
ROUND 3
My opponent forfeits. He didn't want to play me.
ROUND 4 (SEMI-FINALS)
Monarchs VS Warrior
Hooray, the semi finals! The Monarchs did well! This round I have to play
someone I have never dueled before. He said he wanted to duel me today and he
got his wish. He runs a "cookie cutter" "me too" warrior (yawn) deck,
carries around all the rulings he's printed off the internet in a three ring
binder, and is very quick to point out what he thinks is wrong with the rulings
and knows every ruling and knows everything about everything and I know this is
a run on sentence but, I don't care. So there.
GAME 1
OK. I hate people who have an attitude when they duel. It really bugs me
because it takes all the fun out of it. This guy never actually said anything,
it was the way he played his cards that really ticked me off. He would never say
anything like "I'll MST your face down card". He would simply slap the MST down
on the table and push it at you, not saying anything. His body language says, "I
have an MST and you suck, loser."
He NoC's my Night Assailant when he slams the card onto my Assailant. That
really hurt. Then he gets Jinzo out. I don;t really draw anything terribly
helpful except for a Scapegoat which only slows the bleeding a little and I lose
the first game.
GAME 2
This game went in my favor and it was over in a hurry. My Enemy Controller
worked brilliantly and Horn of Heaven blew off every monster he'd summon. I
could tell he was getting mad. You know, you just feel the heat coming from
their collar when you counter everything they do and frustrate what they think
is the "greatest deck ever in the whole, wide world of Yugioh!"
GAME 3
Well, I side deck some stuff just for the heck of it. Since it's a warrior
deck, I put in some Tomato to maybe thin my deck out faster and get some Peten's
on the field and in the graveyard. I also put in RoD and Torrential to help slow
down the summoning.
I pretty much got my butt kicked. I top deck a Premature Burial with 500LP
left. He slapped down cards and pushed cards at me and snapped cards from his
deck and I told him I didn't like his attitude. I told him I did not mind losing
but, I do mind losing to someone who plays with an attitude and I didn't think
he was that good of a player anyway.
Oh well, I lost in the semi-finals and we left to go to the second
tournament of the day!

Winner gets 3 packs and 2 Hobby League Cards
(Hooray for Greenkappa)
2nd place gets 2 packs and 1 Hobby League Card
3rd place gets 1 pack and 1 Hobby League Card
23 people today.
Having 23 people really messes up a schedule. A couple of people had
byes and we had to load one side of the brackets with more people. I ended up on
the heavy side, so, I'd have to duel more than the person on the other side to
get to the finals.
ROUND 1
Monarchs VS Beatdown
GAME 1
Enemy Controller and Horn of Heaven really work well for me this game,
getting rid of monsters and frustrating my opponent to no end. Zaborg destroys
his Fiber Jar and, after my Fiber flip when he is at 1400, I summon Breaker to
attack an open field for the win.
GAME 2
Creature Swap wins the game for me when I Swap a Peten for his monster,
then tribute his monster for Mobius, destroying his two M/T cards and then I
attack my own Peten for the win.
ROUND 2
I had to play my daughter and she gave me the win. I wanted her to duel but
she said I would have won anyway. I told her she had as good a chance of
winning as I did and she should duel, but she insisted and I took the win.
ROUND 3
Monarchs VS Warrior (again)
GAME 1
I chose to go first and get PoG in my opening hand. That's always a good
thing. I set Bottomless Trap Hole and Peten, ending my turn. He Change of
Heart's my Peten, then summons Breaker and I Bottomless Trap Hole him. He plays
Painful Choice, offers me some light and dark monsters along with BLS and I give
him BLS because I have Creature Swap and Painful Choice in my hand. I want him
to bring out BLS so I can take him next turn. He summons BLS and attacks me for
3500. My Peten returns to me at the end of the turn.
I play Painful Choice, pick some monsters (TIV and Sinister Serpent among
them), and he gives me the Serpent. I Creature Swap his BLS and remove it from
play. I love that. Somehow, I managed to stay alive and get him down pretty far.
I Call of the Haunted my TIV back, call Warrior and get rid of everything he has
on the field in one fell swoop and he can't recover after that.
GAME 2
Snatch Steal hurt me becasue he kept gaining life and I kept losing it. I
hit his Cyber Jar when I had 100LP left and he had 11,000LP and I was
doomed.
GAME 3
I summon a Gorilla and set Hallowed Life Barrier.
He Snatch Steals my Gorilla and tributes it for his own Mobius, destroying
my Hallowed Life Barrier which I activate and discard Sinister Serpent for. He
sets one M/T and ends his turn.
I get my Sinster back, summon it in attack position and activate Creature
Swap. I take his Mobius and attack my Sinister. Ouch. That's fun.
He activates Reinforcments of the Army and gets Exiled Force. He Change of
Heart's his Mobius, summons Exiled, attacks with both and then tributes Exiled
to get rid of his own Mobius. Then he Premature Burialed his Mobius and was top
decking.
I Snatch Steal his Mobius attack. He top decks a Royal Decree and sets it.
I attack anyway and we joke how his 150$ Royal Decre is useless.
ROUND 4 SEMI FINALS
Well, for the second time in a day, I'm in the semi finals.
Monarchs VS Chaos
These duels were extremely intense. They were so intense and I had to think
so much, I stopped taking notes because I could not be distracted. I managed to
get Cyber Jar and a Bottomless Trap Hole on my opening hand both games and I was
able to BTH all his face up monsters after the Cyber flip TWICE! Once it was an
Archfiend Soldier and the other time it was 2 GAF's. Mobius and Zaborg play a
big part and I win both duels. They were very, very close.
FINALS
Monarchs VS Beatdown
This is interesting. I have to play against another of my own decks in the
finals. I loaned a deck to a friend of mine to use and I end up playing against
it. I come in first and second today no matter what happens in the finals!
Yeah!
GAME 1
Ouch. That's all I have to say about that. I think I got murdered in like,
two or three turns. It was ugly.
GAME 2 and 3
All I have to say is I build some pretty good decks. Yes, the Monarchs came
out on top in the end, but my beatdown deck game me some problems. He kept using
Fissure to get rid of everything I would bring out and I kept saying, "Who's the
idiot that put those Fissures in there?" Ha.
OK. Horray. I win the tournament by beating one of my own decks, so I come
in First and Second. I get all the packs and stuff and don't get anything but a
Null and Void, all the rest were regular rares BUT I did get my third
Greenkappa!
So, we hang out a little bit for the Yu Yu Hakusho tournament. I wanted to
get home early so, we didn't stay as late as usual. Got home and hit the sack
because I was really tired.
That's it for this week! Until next time! Happy dueling!
