Hi all,
It's been a while since I wrote a tournament report. I've been busy and
well, frankly, the tournaments have been rather dull. Last week was the first
week in playing the "Advanced" Format and I messed around with some wierd freaky
deck to see how it would work and it didn't, and I lost in the early rounds and
that was about it. At first glance, I suspect the dominate deck types Post-Ban
will be Warrior (with and without control), Control, Burn, Horus and Armed
Dragon decks. That's what I saw the most of in the first two weeks of Advanced
Format play.
I had a cup of Hazelnut coffee when I woke up. My wife brought home a large
French Vanilla with cream and sugar when she picked up some donuts. I got to the
tournament, I purchased another large French Vanilla coffee and I was buzzin'
like a bee hive when we started the tournament.
There were a lot of people there this morning. I'm guessing 35. A lot of
them were new people. Good.
This week I decided to use my Post-Ban Panda deck. This is the first time
I've played with it in a tournament and I thought it would actually be stonger
utilizing the ban and forbidden list. It's good against a lot of different deck
types. I need to work on the side deck a little to counter burn decks more.
OK. Here's the deck as it stands this week:

ROUND 1
Pandas VS Poor Man's Chaos Deck
I help put Chad's deck together and at times, I'm sorry I did. I call this
a Poor Man's Chaos deck because it uses Chaos Sorceror and not the big Chaos
monsters. Thunder Nyan Nyan, Theban Nightmare and MoF are the light monsters,
Giant Orc and Old Vindictive Magician round out the majority of dark monsters.
Secret Barrels have finished me off a few times after a Cyber Jar flip and I
really hate this deck because it can be very effective and I have lost to it
before. I've decided to never help people with their decks again! Every time I
do, they start beating me with it and it makes me mad. Not too mad, actually.
It's just frustrating to have people beat me with decks I've either built from
scratch for them, or given extensive advice.
GAME 1
This game was over pretty quickly. Chad managed to Painful Choice and get a
Chaos Sorceror on the field on the first turn. Sowrds of Revealing Light kept me
from attacking and his Old Vindictive Magicians ate every monster I put out
there while his Magician of Faith's kept getting his SoRL back from the
graveyard. A frustrating loss for me.
GAME 2
I went to my side deck and put in both NoC. I set Cyber and a Waboku. He
sets one monster and 3 M/T. On my second turn I NoC his Old Vindictive
Magicians! Perfect. I tribute my set Cyber Jar for Jinzo and he can't
recover.
GAME 3
This was classic Panda beauty. He Exiled Forced a Battle Ox and
Tribute to the Doomed my Gorilla but, he wasted his hand and I locked up his
field with 5 Ojama Tokens. After a NoE got rid of his Secret Barrel, which only
did about 800LP damage, I was clear to attack at will and I won.
ROUND 2
Pandas VS Water Deck
This was a slaughter. I dominated both games. Patrick was getting horrible
draws and I managed to hit a Spirit Reaper over and over again and after an
Ojama Trio/Final Attack Orders I had the Panda at 3300ATK and it was over
fast.
ROUND 3
Pandas VS Spirit Deck
Parker likes to try new stuff out and he likes to play me to see if it
works or not. This week, he tried out a Spirit deck and it didn't work. He had
some high Defense monsters like Prevent Rat but as soon as I got a Panda out
with some tokens on his side of the field, they didn't last long. I wondered how
he had managed to get to the 3rd round with that deck. I guess it was a
testament to either how well it was built or how crappy every one elses deck
was.
ROUND 4
Pandas VS Burn
Giant Trunade and NoE's came through for me. I NoE any trap that wasn't
chainable like Nightmare Wheel, then Giant Trunade anything that was stuck on my
monsters back to his hand and charge in for quick attacks. These two duels were
over fast.
SEMI-FINALS
Pandas VS Beatdown
Good job Pandas. I made it to the Semi Finals with little to no
problems.
GAME 1
Oh crap. My first hand I draw NO monsters. I did manage to stall a while
with a Waboku and SoRL for a few turns but I continued to draw nothing but magic
and trap. Finally, I draw a monster and it's Jinzo. Big fat, hairy deal. I lose
the first game miserably.
GAME 2
Oh crap. Again. I pull nothing but an Airknight and magic and trap cards. I
manage to stall a while and somehow stumble through the game, hitting a little
here and there, using Call of the Haunted and Premature Burial to get monsters
back onto the field and I finally get the Ojama Tokens on the field, Giant
Trunade all his cards and attack for the win. That was painful.
GAME 3
I finally get a decent hand but he plays PoG and then Painful Choice. I
give him Sinister Serpent. He summons a Spear Dragon. I summon my Spear Dragon
and suicide. Well, a Premature Burial, Call of the Haunted and Snatch Steal
later, he's got Jinzo, Zaborg, GAF , and my Berserk on his side of the field and
he dominates, killing me quickly.
Oh well, I'm out this week but made it to the semi finals which is a good
thing!
Happy dueling!
