This is my first attempt at a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament report so please bear with me.  First off this is not the deck I would play now that I have a little better understanding of how the cards interact.  I got so lucky it wasn’t even funny.  I have forgotten some of the names because I didn’t write them down and wasn’t really planning on writing a report but I did fairly well my first time out so why not.

Round 1

Me (junk) vs. John (Chaos)

GAME 1:  My details are going To be a bit sketchy but I somehow managed to win the first game.  I had a pretty good draw and was able to lay down some good beats early.  He stabilized the board somewhat mid game but my big creatures just keep on pounding and I was able to activate Raigeki and attack for the win.

GAME 2:   This game was all John.  He got out  Black Luster fairly early and there was nothing I could do.

GAME 3:  This game was similar to game 2 only I was able to lay some beats as well.  When he pulled his Black Luster out he had two creatures and I had one.  I had a Magic Cylinder set and a Dark Magician.  He had the BL and Breaker the Magical Warrior out.  Apparently he didn’t have anyway to get rid of my trap and decided to attack with the BL to kill my DM and then attack for the win with Breaker.  His life total was down to 3600 at the time.  All I could do was smile we he announced his attack with BL.  I activated the trap and did 3000 damage to him and was able to swing over for the win with DM my next turn.  He summed it up after the match when he said I never should have won that match with my deck but I played well which made the difference.  I should note at this point that while this is my first ever Yu-Gi-Oh tournament and only 1 week since I decided to start playing I have been playing magic for many years and before I quit playing I had managed to make a pro tour.  So CCG’s are in my blood.

Round 2

Me vs.  ????? (????)

GAME 1:  I have to admit this was a very fast match and I never got to see much of his cards.  I got so lucky both games.  I managed to Yata Lock him first game on like 3rd turn.  It was crazy.

GAME 2:  See game 1 only turn 2

Round 3

Me vs. ???????( ????)

GAME 1: Once again I was able to out beat someone with my creatures.  This game went back and forth for a while but everything I played was bigger than his stuff or traded with his stuff.  He did have a lot of disruption type cards and I learned the strength of Mirage of Nightmare in this match.  What a good card.  I also think I like Confiscation over The Forceful Sentry as well.  Anyway I managed to get Yata lock on him and end the game.  I felt bad afterwards because he had a Sinister Serpent in his graveyard and he never pulled it out.  When the game was over I asked him why he didn’t, I thought that maybe I had misread the card and it didn’t do what I thought it did.  Turns out he just forgot it was there.  I believe I would have won anyway because I had good creatures in my hand it would have just taken a few extra turns.

GAME 2:  This game was quite a bit different.  I never really had control of the board from the beginning.  He managed to take control or swap and destroy every creature I played.  I think this was what his deck was meant to do and he did well this game.  Not even close.  I don’t think I did any damage at all.  I just got out played period.

GAME 3:  This game started with me taking board control and doing a bit of damage.  I had him down to 6000 and then his deck started to click again.  I started to see a repeat of the last game.  He started to take control of the board and deal some damage.  Then I managed to get a Jinzo out and thought I might be able to take control.  He played Painful Choice and I just thought I was done.  In my hand I had Berserk Gorilla, Dark Elf, Monster Reborn and Change of Heart.  He pulled out of his deck Raigeki, Dark Hole, Creature Swap, Monster Reborn( he had a big one in graveyard), and Premature Burial.  I thought for sure this would be game.  I thought about if for a while and with Jinzo out I negated his traps and that worked in my favor.  So I wanted Jinzo to stay out.  That means I had to eliminate Raigeki, and Dark Hole from my choices.  The next question was did I think I would be able to deal with the monster he brought out in the next few cards cause then I was done if I didn’t.  That scared me a bit because with all the tricks he had it could have spelled the end of me if he was able to get rid of mine or take it and sac it to something big.  In the end I took my chances and let him have the Creature Swap hoping he would do exactly what he did.  He took my Jinzo and attacked the creature he swapped and then ended his turn.  All I could do was smile and know that I dodged a bullet.  I think I confused him when I gave him the creature swap because I think he assumed I wouldn’t want him to have my Jinzo but I knew that he had traps that would have likely ended the game and I needed Jinzo on the board.  First thing I did was Change of Heart my Jinzo back.  Then I activated Monster Reborn and got back a Goblin Attack Force.  Lastly I played my Dark Elf and simply smiled.  I could tell by the look on his face that he had no idea I would be able to end the game with his life points still so high.  It took a few seconds to sink in what was going to happen. I entered my combat phase and told him unless he had some really good spell set that could stop my attacks it was game.  He started to do the math and just smiled.  Once again I got very lucky and managed to win when I should have lost.  On to the finals now woot!!!!

Round 4

Me vs. Jason (Chaos)

GAME 1:  As it turns out Jason was John’s son.  Both of them were playing Chaos.  I liked my chances since I played the father and got lucky.  I figured it was a coin toss at best.  Wow was I wrong.  I have to admit the son played much better than the father did and his deck was much better as well I thought.  Game 1 was a joke for me.  I never got out of the gate.  Jason took control from the start and didn’t look back.  It was over before it even got started.

GAME 2: See game 1 hehe.  This one was even worse than the first game.  I simply got out played period end of discussion.  Great Job Jason.
